SDN is a great resource for looking into Post-bac/SMP programs.
If you scroll down on the main forum page you will get to a 'Postbac programs' forums. There are a lot of people who have done programs and are very knowledgable about the various programs. As I said there are programs around the country and AAMC has a little search engine so you can find programs. here it is: http://services.aamc.org/postbac/

I did the VCU certificate program last year (basically an SMP but you don't get the medical masters, you only get a certificate of completion). If there is a lot of people who want to hear about it I will gladly post about it on this board otherwise PM me with questions.

I think they now require the MCAT to be higher than stated on this website (22) especially for some of the harder programs to get into.
 
Does anyone know when the status change is gonna happen this round?? Hopefully it wasn't today! 🙁
 
I got a status change e-mail at 6:04 p.m. today. It says the usual stuff about the adcom meeting to discuss my file. I interviewed on December 13th if that helps anyone with estimating their timeline. Good luck to everyone who also got the status change!
 
Zip back a couple of posts and you'll see a few answers regarding the next batch of offers
 
I'm really hoping that release dates are tomorrow and weren't today. But I am slightly worried that somebody got a status update today. Did anyone call the office to confirm that it is tomorrow or is this all speculation?
 
I checked my status page and I have been updated to hold status which means I have gone to committee. I did not receive an email.
 
Am I the only person obsessively checking this thread for updates? Damn I'm a loser.:laugh:
 
Haha i was just wondering the same thing..... I'm such a loser I'm at work with this page up in the background consistently and I have been refreshing it every so often...

Even more of a loser here... Off from work due to the sh*tty weather - would have been sweet to hear some good news last night and spend today celebrating. Singing in the rain baby, singing in the rain.

Two more chances before we might see the six-headed **** slinging monster of doom all of us pawns call the wait list. Booooo....
 
Sorry for so many posts here guys - I think I might be approaching the limits of my jurisdiction. Just wanted to say I was going to try and improve the karma a bit. The last time I attempted to do so, I made a donation to the site and a week later I got my first acceptance. I'm going to set up an experiment here and see if another little donation will rock the karma supply a tad. Results posted this evening, rain or shine.

Haha. Pug, what was the other school? EVMS? Regardless, since you're a Va. resident, I'm sure you applied there. I wish VCU was as...I don't know...as applicant-friendly as EVMS after the interview. I feel like EVMS wanted to give students their news as soon as possible. VCU, on the other hand, either doesn't care about the anxiety of post-interview waiting or enjoys keeping everyone on their toes.

I'm right there with you buddy - I'm gunning for an (insert any number less than 70) -fecta of Hokies getting the great news tonight. And if some of you out there are luckier than others, represent your undergrad well! Especially when your football team doesn't 😱

EVMS was my first acceptance, furthermore, my only acceptance. I was really happy with their post-interview correspondence, and expected nothing less after sitting on their waiting list all of last summer. I know it's a bitch waiting for the news, and even though I'm not in the same boat as you may be, it's still tough waiting for your #1. But rest assured it makes it all the more gratifying when you finally succeed.

Even though VCU doesn't perform well in their post-interview communication, they have always been nice when I've called in for advice. (Attempting to control a continuation of the "ice" rhyming words) And the dean of the school was nice enough to tell me early last summer that it probably wasn't going to be my year on the wait list, which got me pumped up for an early AMCAS submission. I'm hoping the dean this year will help out in a similar fashion.

Any of you all out there watching this thread religiously today, speak up! I'm gunna be a huge dork here, with nothing better to do other than suck down egg whites and play with my dogs. Let's hope we are getting to know our future classmates! :luck:

Actually, same boat, although this is my first year. Accepted at EVMS and now waiting to hear from VCU because I had an awesome stay in Richmond with a host student during my interview. My interview at VCU was my first medical school interview, and I thought it was solid though not outstanding. I later found out some news about my particular interview that has me suspecting I'll be eternally waitlisted. Still, I'm always gitty come these VCU release days, even though I've unsuccessfully drudged though October and December. I don't know that VCU is my first-choice, it's just a choice. Seems like Virginia doesn't have a "mediocre" medical school in the state, and with the new Virginia Tech-Carilion MD program coming in 2008 and the emergence of VCOM, Virginians will have five great schools to choose from in the future.

I was completely surprised by the news from EVMS - given my stats and interviews, I would have put all the chips on VCU. Why happened at VCU that has you thinking? If you don't want to post it on the board, you should PM me... I've got an interesting history at the school as well but don't think it's appropriate to mention publicly until the process is over.

I visited VCOM when its second class had just entered and was very - very impressed with the quality of the school, technology, etc. I would have put in an application if I wasn't worried about attending a school with a reputation of letting students in with low, low stats. I can't wait to see what comes out of the new MD program in Roanoke...

haha i think it's too much of a distraction from work today. speaking of which, how did you get off from the weather if you're in VA? or are you up in the Northeast somewhere right now?

I've been doing pool work on the side for the past few summers down on the outter banks, and I am getting by doing some construction in Hampton right now. We are seeing some light rain and can't work if it's wet. Come May I'll be a pool boy again working for the real money.

I thought distractions from work were a good thing?
 
yeah as long as they're not too distracting. only 5 hours left...tho i probably won't be on a computer at 6 to check so maybe a bit longer. also the OBX are fantastic. i've been there at least 5 times.

Yeah man - I've lived at the OBX for close to 10 months.

Damn guys - 15 minutes to go and no action here? If only this thread was representative of VCU's applicant pool... just me and a couple other guys 🙂
 
Do you think its going to update today? That memo from 12/15 hasn't changed.... I would have thought it would have changed if we were going to hear something (or not) today...

Good point... Im not showing a difference, and you'd think they would update that memo. But then again, I dont remember that memo going up until after 12/15... did anyone notice its addition on 12/15?

Right, Pug. It didn't appear until after the 15th. I kinda chuckled when I saw it, because this year it seems VCU has been consistently inconsistent.
 
This anxiety is killing me. It's 6:08pm and counting-- no email status update, no change on status page. I called the admisison office this afternoon and they confirmed there will be status changes today 1.16.07 at 6:00pm eastern time. I'm still waiting...

Ok... thanks for that post - I was beginning to wonder whether or not our information was correct. If they are on schedule, there are bound to be a few SDNers out there with acceptances. Only a couple people posted that they received acceptances on 12/15, so I guess there is always a chance that non of us are special enough😉

On a side note, I have three update emails from VCU in my inbox from this application period, and all of them came at either 6:03 or 6:04 PM. Thus, I think that anyone without an update now is waiting for 3/15. At least the next update will give all of us SOMETHING...

Yup, no email and status still the same. Well, I'll see some of you on 3/15...or 3/16 or 3/17.
 
Well, the front of their website still says "12/14/2006
This is to notify you that the December offers will update on the system at 6pm on 12/15/06. If you do not receive an offer notice on your status page you are still on hold for the offers to be made January 15, 2007 and March 15, 2007. "

I would think they would change that message with the new offers.... so maybe there is still hope?
 
I interviewed on December 12 and this is what my status page has been saying since January 6:

The Admissions Committee has met to discuss your file. Your application is being placed on hold for action at a later date. We anticipate making offers October 15, December 15, January 15, and March 15.

You will receive no further communication from us concerning your hold status. The next status change will be to offer you a position in the class, to notify you that you have been placed on the alternate list in mid-March, or to notify you that the committee will no longer be considering your file.

We thank you for your interest in our school.


If my file has gone to ad com, and I've gotten no status update today, does this mean a decision has not yet been made on my application?

The offers for admission for the VCU School of Medicine have been delayed due to the holiday schedule until Thursday January 18, 2007.

oh well...everyone take a breath.

Seriously, I think the adcom at VCU is conduction psychological experiments this season. Talk about no respect for its applicants.👎 👎 👎

Disappointment quickly turned into hope.. I'm good wit that.

someone said they just got a status change about being reviewed yesterday and they interviewed on the 13th of December. maybe the Adcom wanted to look at more people if they have a set number of spots that they intend to give out this month. am i the only person that finds this whole thing hilarious? see you guys in 48 hours :laugh:

I guess they decided at 6:30 that they weren't ready - wonder when they figured this out? Oh well - 48 hours it is.

I'm just wondering if MCV sends out interviews the way they do acceptances (like on the 15)...or is it pretty random. I've heard they interview thru Feb. So when you guys got your interviews...I'm assuming your status page changed?

One could, and should make the argument that we are all (or should be) adults , and can take the good with the bad, but honestly, Im a little shocked by the timing. Im going to give a double 😱 😱 to the timing.

I've liked the rolling admission process at other schools. Perhaps VCU will consider making the change?
