Seconded...I got my rejection status update e-mail on Sunday, December 24.

Yes, Christmas Eve.

Yea, second that about rolling admissions. Much much better than the way VCU handles it. And SGMD - so sorry they did that to you.

I guess in reality the delay this evening wasn't the end of the world. But it could have been handled differently. I hate seeing people disrespected when going through such a tough application cycle. Welcome to the process.

Unless they post otherwise. I won't be too disappointed if 6:15 rolls around and there's no good news - it's always possible that they could delay the release further.:luck:

I was surprised to see this thread go all the way to page 4 with decisions coming out in less than 6 hours. guess people might be jaded after what happened on tuesday?

hey everyone,

i interviewed today at MCV and the dean of admissions said they are giving out about 45 offers today and probably around 50 in march.

hope you all get good news.

I know this has been discussed before, but i had my interview early january (4th) and i can't tell if i've gotten a status update simply because my email is being stupid but all i hvae on my status page is the interview feed back thing..i guess since i dont have ne other thing i will not find out today huh?

really? 50 in march? i thought that was usually unheard of..

c'mon VCU...

If your file has gone to committee, it will tell you when you log into the status web site. Otherwise I'm guessing your file is still in line to be discussed.

With the delays over the past week, I wouldn't be surprised if the whole admin process has been delayed quite a bit.

Yeah man - I've been trying to get a little rally going here over the past couple of days, but most will speak up after 6PM.

~100 acceptances between today and march?

are you just pulling our leg?

there are only 4 acceptance dates, so offering 95 spots for a class of 184 on the last 2 dates sounds pretty good to me.

yea but it was rumored that they offered ~80 spots on the December date. Not that I'm complaining - I completely hope they have 95 spots left.

I interviewed Jan 12th last year and was told there were only about 40 spots left for us (ie in march).

maybe people that have already been accepted are starting to drop if they were accepted somewhere else that they want to go. also, this wait is killing me. almost 72 hours past the original date/time.

I probably know the answer from having looked at other threads but I thought I would ask you nervous people...
Does VCU tend to offer interviews around the same time that they offer "final" decisions or are interview invites totally random?

Here you go guys- while we wait to see what VCU has in store for us this evening, check out my latest attempt to make sense of this crazy ordeal:

http://pugmd.blogspot.com/

Good luck!!!!!!:luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

As far as I've seen, interview invites are offered completely at random.

I pulling for you guys! Good Luck :luck: :luck:

I am about 98% sure I will be there in the fall hope to see some of you there as well.

:luck: :luck: :luck:

hiiiiiii guys! im a predent going to vcu next year but my bestest friend 😀 is waiting to hear from mcv along w/ you guys...i wish you all the best of luck in ~30 mins!!!!!! 👍

I believe Jay said it best in Dogma:

"WHEN LORD?! WHEN'S GONNA BE MY TIME?!"

Didn't get an e-mail, but I checked my status page and I got in! Good luck to everyone else!

No falling balloons here... But congrats to all the lucky people out there!!! 😀

I have decided that if I don't get into VCU, I am leaving Virginia forever. I will refuse to do a rotation in VA, do a residency in VA, work in VA, hell, I won't even do a consult with another physician in VA.

Anger!!! 😡

no good news for me either.

everyone who didnt hear anything today, did your file already get reviewed? when did you interview?

just interviewed today....thought it went well.....so i'll be waiting anxiously with you guys for two months till march 15th rolls around....2 months is seriously too long👎

oh good. another waitlist for me. :barf:

I almost wish I knew I was waitlisted - not because I'd be happy with the outcome, but just to be done with the waiiiting for any news. I interviewed in mid-September so come March 15 I will have waited 6 months with no news.

Keep in mind we aren't officially waitlisted until 3/15.

:barf: :barf:UNCERTAINTY

Pugmd, are you in a masters program or something? are they waiting for fall grades? i applied last year and was in the same situation as you and i heard didnt till march..and i got waitlisted :-(..but since they have a hell of a more spots open in march, im sure we'll pull thru..

No masters program... I interviewed in mid Feb last year and was also waitlisted. I almost appreciate the fact that I was interviewed late last year because I knew my fate on 3/15 - I didnt have to wait around through these other batches.

I am also suprised about them having a fourth of the class open for March acceptances. Its hard to believe, but the more the merrier!

i propose every monday we all take shots wherever we are since thats when the admissions committee meets...for good luck that is 🙂

does anyone know what the waitlist movement is like for the out-of-state waitlist...also, what are the avg gpa and mcat for OOS, im sure its higher than for IS...thanks!

I checked my email once I arrived boston logan airport [Interviewing at Boston University tomorrow] and was soo dissappointed about not getting an update email, but checked the status page anyways and got something good - My first admissions offer. God is good, this has been a long journey for me, and I'm glad it's finally over. Now, I can relax and not worry anymore. Congratulations Andrew 1593 we might be classmates. To those of you still waiting for interview or acceptance, Good luck to you, hold on and hopefully something works out for you as well. Thanks SDN for all your correspondence.

It's Official: VCU School of Medicine Class of 2011

Finally some good news 🙂! I'm in-state and interviewed in October and was completely passed over after the Dec. 15th updates. At this point, I thought all hope was lost especially since they didn't want me the first round after my application was reviewed. I didn't even want to check my status page to see the same old message. However, my compulsive personality wouldn't let me put it off for long. So don't give up hope everyone - you may get lucky when you least expect it!!!

I feel like MCV is just dragging me along. I can't take it anymore! Getting passed for the December 15 and January 15 release dates as an instater (with above average stats) has put me in this horrible depressed funk. It's made me doubt myself, and I don't think any school should make a person feel this way! Is anybody in the same boat? I think the fact that I have no acceptances yet makes me feel worse.

I just got in, but will be withdrawing very shortly. So some other out of stater will be able to claim my position. Good luck!!!

Hey guys - don't give up hope. We've got 2 months until we get an update and the school will finally tell us where we stand. For those officially on the wait list, no more waiting around for the middle of the month - you could be contacted any day. With all the movement around May 15, I'd expect your best chances to be on March 15th or in the last 2 weeks in May.

Last year, the previous dean let me know that things probably wouldn't work out for me on their wait list. Hopefully, the new dean will give similar information for students that can't sit on a wait list indefinitely.

It's a tough process and some of us have gone through this more than once. If you need support, use this forum. Congrats to all who got in, and everyone else keep your chins up.

darwin doc is correct...i interviewed yesterday as well, Dr. Whitehurst-cook said approx 45 acceptance yesterday and about the same in march...so there is definitely still hope 🙂

just got a status update today that my file had been reviewed by the adcom but no email about status update. kinda weird that it happened on a friday but whatevs. marchhhhh here i come!!!!!

goooood luck every1!

Congrats to all who got in. I was updated to reviewed by committee on Monday and at 6:04 on T I received an update status change. Broke my heart when I saw that it was just my update email a day late 🙁

Thurs. I didn't get an offer. I realize that this means the best I can do is the waitlist which for me means rejection 5 months later. Congrats to those who got an offer after their batch date had passed in Dec. I guess that means that our group(Jan) didn't have numbers as good as you. That is very impressive! I live in Richmond and my husband loves his job so it looks like I'm never going to be a physician. Top of the waitlist last yr but that means nothing when you go back to interview. I'm sure the committee jokes about how many times they have put me on the wait list. I wish I had signed up for a later interview so I would only hurt like this from March-Aug.

45 spots left, 29 instate, 14-F, 15-M, 16-oos, 8-F, 8-M....

I got a an update too saying my file has bee met by the admissions committee..i thought they only met on mondays? kinda weird.

Since i have to wait till march, does that mean my file will NOT goto the admissions committee again..as in already went once..its not going to go again?

Never trust the email updates. Both this year and last year I saw status updates on the webpage without emails (and yes, went through the junk box too). Sometimes they come through but sometimes they don't. It's best to just check the webpage if you really want to know your status.

The way I understand it, the only way they will ever open your file again is in the event of a tie on the waitlist. If you and Johnny Smoe were both given priority scores of 2.67, they will review your folder and any updates you've provided to decide who is worthy of the offer.

15 instate male spots left for 3/15? That sounds pretty good to me - I wonder how many are for white males?

Q: What is the process by which your interview date is determined?? Are later interview invites given to those with lower scores and gpa?
thanks

The school is going to offer interviews to it's most qualified applicants. Just because you are offered a late interview does not mean you aren't competetive, though. If your AMCAS / secondary application was received later than others, you are further down the list to grab an interview.

Specific interview dates are chosen by the applicant based on what is available. Once you are notified that you will be granted an interview, you are allowed to pick your date and time from a list.

From my experience last year - waiting a month to submit your secondary can put you on the sideline waiting for an interview for a couple of months. There is a lot of strategy involved with being at the front of the line.
