Yes, thank you making the call & passing along the update. Yesterday was definitely rough & I'm feelin' pretty down at the moment...VCU is my #1.

Guess there's still hope for the waitlist 😳

Congrats to all who got good news yesterday!! 👍

Anybody know how many VCU (or schools in general) pulls from the waitlist to fill spots?

I can't believe they didn't update the status for people on the waitlist- that really sucks. Good luck to everybody still waiting. Just wanted to say that I bet the waitlist will move pretty well this year since it seems like a lot of people were withdrawing earlier in the year leading to having so many acceptances to hand out in march, so hopefully the trend will continue. Also keep in mind that it might move in like 2 weeks b/c thats how long we have to accept the offer and some people might not. Congrats to the others who got in- we're future classmates!

anyone know how you get your position on the waitlist? once it's out i mean.

i heard they dont really tell you where you are on the waitlist.

thanks elby for the encouragement, and good call on the 2 weeks things. hopefully a few more of us can get in then.

MCV will not release your spot on the waitlist. They may give you postive or negative feedback but they will tell you that even they don't know. Instate, no chance. I've been here before it just makes for a really bad summer. No instate student will give up there spot and many are willing to turn in evms or vcom for a spot at mcv so it just won't happen. Also, note that noone(less than 5) who were interviewed early got in this batch, it doesn't happen 🙁

between schools, it varies considerably. it also varies between years. sometimes the waitlist moves, sometimes it doesnt. i imagine this year is a very interesting application year since applications are up, and the government is really pushing to up each med school's class size (which means people think there is a chance, thus more applications).

i know that MCV ranks their waitlist, but it appears that they have yet to actually form their waitlist (based on previous posts). i would wait a week and see about the formation of the waitlist... wait another week and see if you can find out where you are on it. i know they may not tell you, but it's always worth a shot. good luck :luck::luck:

Bleu, you seem like you know a lot about MCV's waitlist process...do you know how many they eventually took from the waitlist last year? Either IS or OOS?

Email the dean she will tell you the exact #.

I can tell you the oos rolled to the point that an individual who says they were told they bombed the interview made it in but instate did not move at all. People who were told they were near the top didn't make it. Just read "mcv 2006" full of broken hearts, instate spots didn't move.

Last year, VCU waitlist barely moved (mostly in May when applicants have to give up all but one offers) after about 900 people were interviewed, which is 250 more than they usually interview.

This year it seems that they are back to 650 so the waitlist should move more. In the previous years, when they also interviewed 650, approximately 70% of waitlisted aplicants ended up getting in. More of them were OOS but a good number of in-staters were accepted also. Usually about 50% of the class comes off the waitlist so don't be disappointed if you don't have an offer yet.

Also, last year there were a few rejections but the vast majority of people were waitlisted. Some years everyone was placed on waitlist. Waitlist positions are determined by your post-interview scores.

Good luck to all!

thanks apparition, that is the best thing i've heard in the last 24 hrs... 🙂

I'm pretty pissed with VCU right now. I wait 4 months for an update, and they don't even post it when they said they would.

I have to find out from SDN that I've been waitlisted or rejected and have to wait until next week to find out.

Been accepted elsewhere, really considering withdrawing. Not that VCU cares.

i agree! completely unprofessional in my opinion.

just keep your head in the game, dont give up hope guys until you get official word

Thanks for the info. (& encouragement), Apparition!

Anyone know if VCU encourages/discourages emails or calls with questions re: waitlist, etc? 😳

If you mean now I think they mind.

The March 15, 2007 offers have been made. If you have not been notified by email to check you status, please refrain from calling the office regarding at this time. The next notification will go out mid next week, and you will be updated in reference to your status. We thank you for being patience during this extremely busy process.

since we get a score, do updates/LOIs matter at all if WLed?

Same. Been right there with ya since the Jan acceptances.

I spoke with an admissions lady a couple of months ago about priority scores, after you've been assigned your score there is nothing you can do to alter your score. You can send in updates but they won't be used unless you're at a COMPLETE tie with someone, which is very unlikely. So the jest of it is once you've been given a score, that's your score no matter what.

As I posted before, I interviewed in September, and I have been waiting, waiting, and waiting...without hearing a word. I have even contacted my interviewer three times and have heard nothing but "be patient, these things take time."

The fact of the matter is that VCU seems to stand alone in this "backlog of applications." VCU isn't the only school forced to review more applications. At the same time, how many schools have thread on SDN devoted to complaints, questions, and discussion of the unknown?

The bottomline: Good report with applicants is not a priority at VCU. EVMS, UVa, and VCOM could clinic VCU on how to handle the application process.

Thanks Apparition. That gives me hope. Haha I need all I can get. Has anyone else applied for and gotten in to a Medical Masters or Pre-medical graduate type program? I am into EVMS' Med Masters, but I would do anything to be accepted to MCV. Just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat.

wow, this thread has gone from being the most bumping thread on SDN to crickets....

I think we're all stewing....

I feel the March 15th decisions should have and could have been handled in a much more diplomatic manner. At a minimum, the poorly worded message that is currently posted on the log in screen should have been posted at the same time they were updating the status of those with acceptances. That way they wouldn't have had to deal with so many phone calls from those of us who were completely left in the dark. We were obviously annoying to them. In years past, they updated the status of everyone at one time. Why were we to expect anything different?

I love the school but feel they dropped the ball on this one!

yeah i felt that we would all find out on march 15, no matter what the decision. did applicants last year have to wait just as long to hear anything or is this something new?

does the adcomm decide how long to make the waitlist or is that up to the dean?

we've all been waiting for months, whats 1 more week...

Agreed.

I have to say that I don't think this is entirely fair. It sounds like this year many people have had frustrating experiences with VCU, but in my experience (in the previous app cycle) I don't think I encountered a single school that was more dedicated to communicating with its applicants. If there have been problems this year, I doubt it's just because VCU doesn't care (I realize this may not be a comfort to those waiting for news though).

Also, I think you meant to say rapport.

Count me as one less person on the OOS potential waitlist. I withdrew my application from VCU today, seeing as I now can walk up the street for medical school. Best wishes to you all.

Thanks! Hopefully more people who wouldn't attend if accepted will withdraw as well.

man, i need to figure out a way to find where i am on the waitlist so i dont have their long drawn out false hope...

Yeah, I would at least like to know if I have a good chance this year. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll hear anything in enough time before I have to start my app for next cycle. Guess I'll have to wait until things calm down and set up a meeting to find out what I need to improve.

so what do we think?...waitlist coming out tomorrow, thursday?

so what do we think?...waitlist coming out tomorrow, thursday?

I know that the committee was meeting to form the waitlist "at the beginning of the week" and waitlist notifications will be in the "middle of the week." Really, it could be today, tomorrow, or Thursday. Anybody hear anything more definite?

Hello all,
Been watching this board for a while but this is my first post... wondering if there are any thoughts on if the wailist will move significantly before the end of May?
Thanks all.
peace

From what I remember, almost no movement until may 15ths. Most of the movement will happen during the end of may or beginning of june.

hey guys,
congrats to those who received acceptances recently. To those who are still waiting, trust me when i say there will be a lot of movement after May15th. Right now there are several applicants holding onto their VCU acceptance (either waiting for fin aid info or just cant get themselves to actually decline an acceptance until theyre forced to). And even with the 250+ extra interviewees last yr, there were students being accepted right up until 1-2 wks before school began (mainly OOS students). I had a lot of issues with VCU's acceptance policies last yr (mainly that I interviewed early and didnt hear that I was on the waitlist until much much later), but you should try emailing the dean and see if you can get more info about your personal situation. As for sending in extra supplemental application materials, your assigned number wont change but I definitely sent in some stuff and who knows, it cant hurt (perhaps this might be a deciding factor for two applicants that have the same rank numb?) Anyways, good luck to all of you and really try to stay positive. :luck:

quick question,
so vcu has 184 seats, are 184 acceptances being held onto right now? im asking cuz i kno a lotta schools will give out ~250 or so acceptances expecting a lotta ppl to decline their offers...really hoping vcu doesnt do this so they can get to the waitlist faster!

VCU will never over extend their offers of acceptances, this is one reason why the waitlist moves so fast (So I've heard). For 184 seats they will only have out 184 acceptances, as each acceptance is dropped 1 more is offered etc..

So...what do you guys think? Will VCU send out waitlist notifications/rejections today? Good luck everyone!

I'm hoping they post something. Although I don't feel the intense anticipation I did last week, I'd still like to know if I can keep waiting or move on. The IS waitlist could be a miserably long wait but it is worth it to still have some hope of getting in.

Good Luck everyone!!!
:luck: :luck: :luck:

I know what you mean...I'm not enthusiatic to have my third waitlist, and 0 aceptances, but hopefully Ill have a decent shot. It sounds like the OOS waitlist moves pretty well.

Hey all, What does it mean when they haven't updated your status, yet?

Hey all, What does it mean when they haven't updated your status, yet?

It means you were not offered an acceptance on March 15th, which was the last offer date. Now everybody is waiting to hear if they made the waitlist or not. Sometimes they reject some of the people at the bottom of the list, rather than keeping a giant waitlist. The update should come either today or tomorrow, since the admissions office said "the middle of the week."

i'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the waitlist is not coming out today.

i had a feeling all of this would happen. hopefully we hear something by the end of the week.

Rapport, yes. What isn't fair is those who haven't applied this cycle judging my comments about the rapport of this cycle. Perhaps last cycle was different (I remind you leadership has changed since you applied). I applied to several schools. I received the least and pithiest communication from VCU. That's fact. I'm glad last years applicants enjoyed a better time.

So have you contacted the admissions office or are you just going by those ambiguous messages they send everyone? I think I have yet to meet anyone who was unhappy with the way the admissions office treated them after direct contact. Really everyone in that office is really nice. Also learn to use the word rapport correctly. Even after you were corrected you still used it incorrectly.

The messages are the same year to year, sometime with a little tweaking but always as ambiguous. Last year from what I remember they kept us waiting an extra day or two for acceptances/rejections to come out not just the waitlist. Last cycle was no different from this one or the one 2 years ago. Your 1 year of experience with this process does not give you the right to judge a school, especially since you have seen it from only 1 side.

When you are a student at MCV the administration is great, giving everything you need. They apparently dont feel the need to coddle you as you apply and never have. God forbid a school is curt with you. Stop whining.
