hey guys i tried searching for this but had no luck..

what happens if you retake a class at a different 4 year university, for example calculus 1... except the first grade you got calculus 1 was a 5 credit hour class, but at the current 4 year university it's only a 4 credit hour class? does it still count as a retake? i sure hope so :scared:

I've been told yes by people on here and by AACOMAS. I sure hope so too! And it was calculus for me as well.

Hello,
One of my schools is not found on the list, so I went ahead to enter the school name myself, and entered all the classes. But none of these classes counted towards my GPA, 0 unit shown after the school name. what happened? Now I cant delete this school anymore. Help please!

GPA is only calculated on accredited schools. If you enter in an "Other" school you will need to wait for AACOMAS to determine if it is accredited or not. If it is it will be calculated in your GPA.

You should be able to delete the school. If not please PM me.

I have 15 units of AP credit, 15 unit of first semester in college, so should I change my status from Fr to So just after 1 semester? I also have 20 unit semester, is this means I need to change my class standing in the middle of a semester, I am a bit confused, please help. Thank you.

This would mean that you would be a sophomore your second semester. Do not change standing mid-semester, only after a semester. However, I did not send my AP credits in until my fifth semester or something like that so I was both a freshman for those AP credits and a junior or senior for the rest of the credits that semester. That would be an exception to the rule however.

OK, I was going to give someone else a chance to answer questions, but I'll go ahead. 🙂

Last year, I did send my transcripts in about a week early, but I called and asked them if it was ok. I had a friend who sent hers in really early and she ended up having to resend them when aacomas officially opened.

So, I would give them a call and see if they're ready to start accepting transcripts. Hopefully it will be ok and you guys can check that off your list!

I sent my transcripts in about mid-May and had no problems whatsoever. They already had a file on me before I sent in AACOMAS so I believe they just set up a new file when they get your first transcripts. I don't know how early you can start sending them in but I would guess that since they have opened up AACOMAS, it would be OK.

Thank you InterfolioTech, You will be a great help here. I know my school is accredited, for example, University of California, Berkeley Extension, where I took a few Post Bacc classes, would it be possible for you to add it to the list?

Yes you are correct. I just called AACOMAS today (very friendly by the way) and as long as you have entered the colleges that you have attended into the online application they can recieve and process your official trancripts. You don't even have to complete all of the courses first, especially since it can be confusing at times, just the schools you have attended. Im sending mine in this week.

*hope this helps🙂

Thanks, happy to help out with the more technical problems -- a lot of the application intricacies I will pass on to AACOMAS though!

The list of accredited schools is controlled by AACOMAS.

I'd also suggest contacting AACOMAS about which UC Berkeley school name to put down.

First up, I hope that I get picked up this cycle, because entering in all of my transcript stuff has really drained me.

Second, I am having the most difficult time writing my personal statement...I am so frustrated. I have asked my friends to help by writing a blurb about me, and help stimulate my thinking. This isnt even helping. I am a very creative person. I just have a tough time talking about me. I had a tough time completing the ECs till a friend pointed out after looking at other peoples mdapplicants page, that I have those same ECs. Mine are just tied into my job and I do them on a daily basis so it is hard for me to think of anything spectacular. Know what I mean?

Who else is struggling/struggled with the Personal Statement? How did you get past it?

Third, has anyone else come up with some serious discrepancies with their GPA? My overall is lower, but my science is higher? hmmmm

Thank you for your time.

All right, I'm officially fed up with the personal statement box. I finally edited my PS down to 4497 characters according to the character count on the application and it still won't let me save it. It says it's too long. How can that be when the limit is 4500? Is anyone else having this problem?

so i went on to AACOMAS today and both my non-scie and my sci GPA had dropped slighty....but my overall GPA stayed the same.

im not sure why it did that...i didn't change anything.

any one able to explain?

Thanks so much! It just went through.

yes and yes. as long as you get all necessary pre reqs before school starts, you are fine.

you can submit app before you get your MCAT scores.... once they come in, they will be sent to AACOMAS and you will be complete.

Good luck to everyone applying for admission into the c/o 2009.

Let me know what you think of this for the application...

I participated in a project recently that was presented and another that is being submitted for publication. Should I enter these separate projects as individual "experiences" or should I just say I was a research assistant and then mention publication / presentation? Thanks...

I can't seem to find much information about how they define the semesters for the application. Listed is Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall. Traditionally, Spring and Fall are the two main terms (spring January - April and Fall August - December). I know that some schools define spring as January - April, but others define that term as winter and then classify part of their summer term as "spring". I have attended two different colleges that do it differently and it makes me ask the question as to how AACOMAS is defining the semesters... so if anybody could help me:

Fall: (approx. dates)
Winter: (approx. dates)
Spring: (approx. dates)
Summer: (approx dates)

Dude/Duddette! (using the best cheech accent I can muster) are you like a super hero or what eh? hehehe.

Seriously, thanks for helping with the glitches

Cool, good to know. Thanks 🙂👍

I've done this. Only the newest retake counts, so both in credit hours and grade, you would only calculate the new one into your GPA!

hey guys, i'm having problems with releasing my mcat scores to aacomas. i went to the aamc site and released my scores to aacomas. the transaction was completed a few days ago but on the aacomas site, it says that my official scores have not been received. I added my SSN# to aacomas for them to identify me. Am i missing anything?? thanks

does the mcat have the right ss#? That happened to me last year where my social was 999-99-9999 on mcat so amcas got scores but aacomas didn't till i called and had them correct it.

I know this as been asked a few times in this thread but no answered, are you able to submit this application now or is it still June 1st?

Any one knows how long takes AACOMAS to process the MCAT score?

I had that issue initially, because I had missed some of the directions regarding MCAT forwarding. MCAT uses a different number from your SSN#. What I did was e-mail AACOMAS regarding the issue, gave them my SSN#, full name, and MCAT# so that they could correct it. That should do it.

if i released it on 5/1, should i wait a few more days, or by now it is too late and i need to email aacomas?

E-mail them anyway just in case because your MCAT# is usually different from your SSN#. My reasoning is that you can never be too safe ("better safe, than sorry"). But yeah, they seem to have taken awhile in processing everything for me.

as far as i know its still june 1st.

Come on, I know somebody knows.

Alright, thanks. When I have some free time, I'll give them a call.

Your best bet is to e-mail AACOMAS. I have attended 3 different universities and each of them used the more traditional approach (which I used in my application).
[Regarding my schools]:
Jan - May = Spring
June - August(mid) = Summer
Mid-August - December = Fall

As it is, AACOMAS can inform you with more truth than anyone on SDN can.

I'm filling out the courses on AACOMAS and I am listing a writing class (class name: writing in science/society) I took. Does this fall other 'other non-science' or 'english'? The class was listed in my university catalog under the Writing department and not english so I'm not sure what to put.

How do you guys post something like Research that you got credit hours for? My course listings list it just as "Individual Topics" and I'm not sure to put Bio or Other Science. Any ideas?

Awesome, thanks for the info. Congrats on your acceptance!

My research had the course number BIO 4050, so I counted it as science. Does yours have a course number and name? Was it science based? If it was then I'd say count it as science and explain what the course was.

Once you have completed every section you can submit your application to AACOMAS for their processing/verification.

hi guys

quick question- i was born in canada, so when they ask for the county of birth, i cant put anything because nothing shows up. so then they dont let me go further in the application...
what should i do?

what should i do?

What are you selecting for State of Birth?

You should be able to pick:

Country of Birth: Canada
State of Birth: Ontario
County of Birth: Invalid or No Answer

If that does not show PM me with your browser and operating system.

Yeah, it's under Bio and has a course number, but it's basically for any student who does extra, outside work like research or reading papers or something like that.

Hi everyone.

I have a quick question...

How do I list a scholarship that I have recived for several semesters. Should I just indicate the semester I started getting it or should I list it for each every semester??

thanks

I have no idea, but I will tell you to make sure you know HOW you listed them inside-out and backwards.

I took a BUNCH of DE Credit in high school, mostly music classes at the local community college. The problem was, these classes (while for college credit) started in ... January of 1999. So I had COLLEGE grades from 1999 (I started my undergrad in August of 2001). I didn't really think anything of it until it got brought up in one of my interviews that I went through 3 years of college without a SINGLE science class.

I was obviously very confused (and didn't have my file in front of me to even BEGIN to figure out what they were talking about)...I looked like a total idiot.

So , the moral of the story is: Just be aware of what your application looks like.

Good luck. As for your initial question...I actually have no idea.

I just got accepted for a 1 year graduate certificate....how or do I report anything through the aacomas...if so where?

Thanks,

T

Yeah, it's under Bio and has a course number, but it's basically for any student who does extra, outside work like research or reading papers or something like that.

Mine wasn't anything special either, but I got an A so it's going under science.

When adding EC information for the AACOMAS application, am I supposed to put the different officer positions I held for one organization in one entry or split it into two? (IE: member, sec, pres)

I would list them all together.

if i am doing work or volunteer stuff this summer (but havent started it yet) can i put it down in my ECs or Work section? then in teh description explain I will be doing it this summer during and throughout the applciation process? if not, wher ewould i talk about these things??

Hi everyone, I know it is kind of repetitive for this question, but does anyone having problem filling out Repeated Courses? I repeated couple courses and I followed AACOMAS direction to input those info, unfortunately, when I tried to enter a new better grade, I could not find the " Last Repeated" option. Would anyone please give me an advice how to go about this? I wanted to know your opinion first before I call AACOMAS. Thanks
