I am looking at the OHSU curriculum, and have a question:
What the difference between the clerkships Medicine, Family Medicine, and Primary Care? They sound similar to me....
Good question:
Clerkship = Third year rotations
Medicine = Internal Medicine (wards, inpatient, consult, and internal med specialties such as cardiology, gastroenterology, and endocrinology)
Family Medicine = Family Medicine (mostly outpatient (in clinic), some ob/gyn, some procedures)
Primary Care = Not exactly sure (anyone with any idea?). For next year anyway, there is no 'Primary Care' clerkship. There is, however, a rural clerkship.
Preceptorship = First and Second year clinical opportunities within the curriculum: one half-day a week on average. During your 'Primary Care' year, you either spend a year with a Family Medicine doc or an Internal Medicine doc. The other year you spend with three different specialists: a different one each term.
Let me know if I can explain it any better, or if you have any more questions!
