When you guys got the secondary invite, was your login something funny? Mine is like an IM version of "good luck to you"...I wondered if it was coincidence...?

i dont know, but my login and password DONT WORK! ANd the admission office never picks up...lol. and yes...it is a "good luck to you" in IM lingo....

Update: Nevermind I got it to work somehow...I didnt copy and paste, so I think that made the difference.

URHere (or anyone else who knows the answer to this)--does OHSU keep old applications? I applied there last year and I'm considering just updating my essays rather than starting from scratch, but if they keep them I don't know if I would want to risk that....?

speeding tickets count as misdemeanors, correct?

No, I think a speeding ticket is an "infraction" not a misdemeanor. If you were going so fast that you recieved reckless driving then that is a misdemeanor is some states.
-my father is a cop and I asked him this the other day.

Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to this one. You would probably be safest to draft out fresh responses for this cycle - after all, your perspectives probably aren't exactly the same as they were a year ago, and your essay responses probably won't be either.

Hey URHere,
I sent out the secondary about 2 weeks ago from cali, and still haven't gotten an email saying it has been received. Should I wait or give the school a call?
THANKS!

they do keep your old applications and will review them when you turn in your new application. debbie melton (dean of admissions) told me that the essay does not necessarily have to change much, they look more at whether or not you have updated your resume (new activities, jobs, particularly comm service)

i would email dr osborne, she is extremely helpful. email is [email protected]. she is the associate dean for student affairs and is amazing!

ohsu doesn't do anything via email (except initial contact). it will likely be about one month before you get a yellow postcard indicating that your file is complete (if your LORs have been sent out too, of course).

Anyone mind sharing what they wrote about for how to evaluate your success as a medical student?

Grades and future salary...Jk😀 I have no idea what I am going to write either.

In my intro I talked about how I'm going to measure my success by how many chicks I pull, and in the body I went over the different strategies I'm going to use, such as how to subtly work in that I'm a med student.

why oh why have i not received this secondary yet? gahhh.

Give it time. It took forever for me to get mine too (and I didn't even get to interview until the middle of March), but I still got in. That's the great thing about OHSU, getting your secondary later than everyone else doesn't really disadvantage you in any way.

I know telling someone not to stress during the admissions process is like telling a leaky boat not to sink, but I'll say it anyway: save your stress for things you need to stress about, this isn't one of them.

Good luck 🙂

Hey does anyone know if the secondary invite comes by email or regular mail? I had to leave school a few days after my AMCAS got verified (about two weeks ago) and i'm getting nervous because OHSU is my first choice and I haven't heard from them at all (i know, they tend to take awhile 🙂). Thanks!

their secondary comes via email now, but they probably take longer than 2 weeks to get back to you. i wouldn't worry yet.

hmm its been 8 weeks since I was verified. Should I give them a call or email? Im getting worried.

Don't worry about OHSU's secondary. They are likely to be a bit slower than many of the other schools. I believe they don't even start the interview season until December. I would be more concerned about schools who are starting the interview process now, and not worry about OHSU for a while (although, at this early stage, you really don't need to start worrying about anywhere yet 🙂 ) Good luck to everyone!

I guess this is good to know.

I was verified July 31st and I was getting really worried because I haven't heard anything yet. I already tried calling and leaving a message. Maybe I'll wait another week before emailing 😛

i know you are all SDN neurotic premeds (myself included) but you have to have patience with OHSU. they are by far the slowest school you will apply to. fortunately it does not matter in the least when you get their secondary and when you turn it in (as long as it is by the due date of course!). OHSU will only accept 15% of their class before may, because they like to interview and give everyone a fair chance up until that point. so even if you get everything in and are interviewed in october, the likelihood is that you will be placed on "hold" anyways (unless you are in that exceptional 15%) and have to wait until may to hear anything definitive.

I am a little confused about the employment/ activities section of OHSU's secondary...

On the application it asks for "a brief chronological account of your major activities and employment, including volunteer and summer activities," but on the FAQ it asks to include education as well..

Did you guys include the schools you've been to for this section?

Thanks

I also wondered about that...but decided that it's pretty obvious that I've been at university for the past few years...Maybe they just mean classes outside the obvious? Say you took a Spanish class in the evenings or private piano tutoring? I might be wrong though. Hopefully not since I just mailed my app in :scared:

I would call. Especially considering your stats I would imagine they would rush you their secondary....maybe your spam filter caught it?

yeah that's what i figured too. I left it out. THanks

should i even bother wasting the 100 bucks on this school like i did last year? i'm from cali and i feel we should be considered in-state for oregon too given how much it sucks to be a cali applicant for med school. now i'm gonna go get some cheese with my whine.

I left it out, and it wasn't a problem in any way. I think this is more of a "quick reference" for interviewers and committee members than anything else (and a way to see everything chronologically since AMCAS kind of fails at that...)

OHSU is not your run of the mill "numbers" school. It is completely possible to get in as an OOS applicant with those numbers (and many have done it). If things didn't work out last year, you should probably take a long hard look at your old application and see if there is anything else that could be causing you problems. Are all of your essays up to par? Do you describe your activities/research/non-statistical things well? Improve what you can and give it another go.

It's an amazing school, but I may be biased...

I am a case in point of a OOS applicant getting in with similar (actually, a tad lower) numbers. Also, we were told that about 40% on the incoming applicants this year were re-applicants.

Listen to the ferret. The ferret is wise.

i'm not quite sure yet, i'm still trying to think of what to include for this response.

Lol!!!!

wait so based on what i'm reading...it's non-rolling? as in it doesnt matter when I turn in my secondary as long as I get it done by the deadline?

Cause I currently have 3 secondaries that need to be done, and if it is the case for OHSU then i'll do that last.

Finally complete as of today!

When did you send your secondary in? I'm getting a little worried because my deadline is September 1st...according to FedEx my secondary was delivered on Aug 22, but I have no word from OSHU yet. I'm worried that I won't be "complete" for whatever reason and then the Sept 1 deadline will pass and they will toss my app. Would they do that!? :scared:

(my letters were mailed on Aug 6 so they MUST be there by now)

Ohh don't worry about that! My deadline was also Sept 1, but my secondary was mailed Aug 2. Anyway, I bet you're going to be complete very soon!

do they still send the little yellow postcard when you are complete?

haha...OHSU is so modern this year!! 😉

I hope so, cause as soon as I got back from the post office when I mailed in the secondary, it hit me that I think I forgot to sign it...

Has anyone tried calling their office to see if they would tell you your status over the phone? I submitted on the 13th and am starting to get worried about that 9/8 deadline.

Did all of you that have submitted fill a whole page for the "How will you evaluate..." essay question?

Yep! I had to reduce my margins as well. Guess I had a lot to talk about.

My deadline is Sept 1st and I still haven't received a confirmation email.

Essay question help: How will you evaluate your success as a medical student? Can someone please clarify what this is asking for? I am not sure what to write? What are some things we can discuss? Thank you!
