** 2008-2009 Secondary Application Thread! **

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Mine doesn't either. They told me that it would by today, but apparently they still don't have it put together. Very frustrating. I can't get my committee letter sent to schools until it says verified. Even though i'm done with a few secondaries I'll have to wait. What a pain.

Can't you get some other form of proof? Can't you tell em that they don't display verification status? I don't understand. Have you pleaded that this is unreasonable, given AACOMAS' change in systems/procedures this year?

What day did you send all your stuff into AACOMAS?

May 29th. I have called AACOMAS over five times, and emailed four times. When they finally called me back on wednesday they said that the system would be updated to show that you're verified on friday(today). I asked when I had been officially verified he said it was way back in mid/late June. Their system is just lagging behind.

This blows my mind. After paying $500+ you'd think it'd be working by now. Oh well. At least we're still early in the the process.

Yeah I'm going to call into the head advisor today. I think they're much more used to dealing with AMCAS which seems to be much more organized, and they're expecting AACOMAS to be the same way, which apparently isn't the case.

The aacomas website now lists your verification date...mine shows the date when my application was sent to each school on my list.

I guess I spoke too soon. I now also have verification dates and the final verified application is downloadable as a pdf file. Finally.

For secondaries that arrive via snail mail, are you guys typing in your information or hand-writing it? I'm thinking of hand-writing the general stats on the application and typing up the essays on the computer and stapling them to the packet, but I don't know if schools prefer everything typed.

The only one I know of, so far, is Touro-CA. From the materials they sent me: "**Only computer generated or typewritten applications will be accepted."

I guess they only send you the paper version in case you need to use a typewriter. You should fill out the online version here and paperclip your word processed essay to it when you mail them in.

Hmm. I didn't apply there, but Pikeville also sent a snail-mail secondary. Maybe I'll call them to find out what they prefer or if they have an online version. I don't even know where to find a typewriter these days!

does anyone have secondary information on:
dmu
nycom
oucom
wvsom

or do some of them do a screen process for the secondaries?
thanks!

OUCOM has some basic essays and then the contract if you are out of state. I can't remember what the essay is, because frankly, they aren't that important to me. I spent about an hour and a half on a one page essay, but it is one that gets sent to a lot of different places. I might look it up later. Tomorrow is my big catch up day. I have to work on OUCOM, UMDNJ, Temple, UCF, Miami, and a few others.

I'd be very surprised if a school didn't have a digital format for you to fill out. Even if it is a PDF that you can use the typewriter feature on

Is there an online version for TOURO-NV? The only version I can find is a Word Document and it's kind of annoying to fill out..

There is a Word doc and a PDF. The Word one is the preferable one, as the PDF is not a form, but rather a scanned copy.👎

When you get the email, it comes with the Word one. Just use the "insert" function or delete the lines and underline your own text, keeping in mind the number of lines given as a guide in the original.

Just to update this from a while ago, i added PNWU and Ok. State to the list. This was last edited by chocolate bear..I think the black was double checked by him and the red is awaiting confirmation. hopefully my links work 😱

Thanks. Yeah, that's pretty much what I did...Just delete and then underlined my answers.

Links work. Thanks for the update! I wouldn't mind keeping this list going for CONFIRMED secondaries for this year. I'll add as they come in. Anyone else do the same, if you feel like it.

hey guys,

i wanted to see how long did it take for yall to receive secondaries after your application was released to the medical schools. My aacomas app was released 7/16/2008.

anyone hear from azcom or ccom yet??

by the way, lecom fixed its portal, so you can make payments now. i'm not sure how to distinguish between payments made to lecom-b and lecom-e though, b/c there's only one link!

Do you not just submit payments after completing the individual applications within the portal? That would differentiate, but I haven't done it yet.

well, generally, yes. but, it's complicated b/c several applicants submitted their application and ATTEMPTED to make payments when the portal was not properly functioning. apparently, they were updating and there was some troubleshooting left to be done. basically, this means our application went through, but our payment did not. so they have a separate link for us where you make your payment- and this link is not specific to each campus, so i emailed them asking how best to work around this and i will let everyone know once i figure it out. sorry if that was really confusing!

I submitted my primary application 8 days ago and haven't started receiving any secondaries (by email or mail).... how long did it take you guys to start receiving the secondaries that are out before verification? I realize this has probably been asked a ton, but when I searched I only got results on MD boards. Thanks!

wait wait..you SUBMITTED or were VERIFIED 8 days ago? when did you click the pay and submit button is my question. If it was 8 days ago you need to wait to be verified and your app will be sent to schools. Any secondaries that are found before that are either on the school's website or leaked on this thread.

Submitted... I was pretty sure I had read some students getting secondaries before verification? I've already started filling out the ones on the individual schools' websites. Thanks again

oh, that would be cool. no idea about that.

I believe that's only through AMCAS. As far as I know, you won't get secondaries until after verification with AACOMAS.

True story. If you do get DO secondaries before being verified, it would be news to all of us, if I may speak for the group.

It should take about 3-6 weeks to be verified. Time flies when you're getting secondaries done though. Not because it's fun, but because they consume your thoughts...have fun!

Yeah... that's the truth. I stared at PCOM's for three days before writing anything. Thankfully the secondaries seem to be similar enough for the most part. How are you guys handling your resumes complete with hobbies... I feel like putting a hobby section on a resume is a little ridiculous. Traditionally, they're supposed to be kept under a page - I assume this is different when you start adding in EC's and hobbies?

Tell me about it. I got 3 more today to do alone. They are coming in faster than I can do them. The good news is that it is nearly half the schools I applied to so far. I am in the 16 range with secondaries.

if someone doesn't mind (i think chocolate bear has the most so far), could people list the secondaries in the order you received them? i want to start working on them in that order. thanks!

If you have just recently submitted, I wouldn't worry about the actual order. Right now you're seeing the order that schools are actually becoming ready for people to submit secondaries. Later applicants--even slightly--will likely be inundated with most/all of their schools shortly after verification/release. The later you applied, the more likely this is to happen.

If I were you, I'd probably complete them in order of preference or go from difficult --> easy, so you can get the essays done now, while you have time.

i didn't apply to all of the schools, and i probably do not have the longest list, but i will try to help out:

1. UNECOM
2. AT STILL- KCOM
3. AT STILL-SOMA
4. PIKEVILLE
5. LECOM
6. NSU-COM
7. PCOM-PA
8. PCOM-GA

I'm sure if I had the time to scroll through the 2008-2009 app thread I could find this info, however I'm thinking this may be a better way. I can't keep track of all the new threads.

So which secondaries have people received thus far?

thanks guys. it's such a daunting task, i wanted to do them in a specific order. i just work that way i guess....good luck on your secondaries everyone!

Daunting indeed. I really haven't heard much from DO schools. LECOM-Erie, VCOM, KCOM, OUCOM, and Touro-CA...compared to the 12 MD schools, that doesn't seem like much.

Read from post 267 through the end, here.

Alright... potentially ridiculous question. So I'm filling out AT-KCOM's secondary, and have reached the portion on clinical/health experience. I have experience shadowing an osteopath (albeit only 5 hours, it is continuing) and experience in an emergency room; these are clearly clinical/health experiences. However, I also have 2 years experience as a Resident Assistant, regularly dealing with alcohol poisoning and psychological health. Do you think it's a stretch to mention it?

I emailed Western and asked when they would be sending out the secondary application and was told that they send them out in the order that they receive the primaries....I was just wondering if anyone had received and email from them? I was verified on the second and still nothing...

App "released" a month and a half ago. Nothing from them.

Anyone know anything about KCUMB secondary? Wondering if I should wait to fill out those LOR forms that are on the website.

Thanks👍
