From Loyola's website:

Admissions officers at Stritch review AMCAS applications to determine which applicants will be sent the Stritch Supplemental Application, which includes short-answer and essay questions that allow students to present their personal experiences and insights. As part of the Supplemental Application, prospective students must also have letters of recommendation submitted on their behalf.

heads up on einstein- since the form is supposed to let you print it, I decided to fill it out, so I`d have it *ready to go* once i got the email. Unfortunately, its bugged, so when I clicked submit/continue, VBscript runtime error, and all my info was gone

Might want to wait till that is sorted out before you waste any time on it.

More problems with einstien....my payment won't go through. I've tried tried two different credit cards and I know both of them should go through. Anyone else have this problem? I'm going to call them today.

Yes, had this same exact problem. Tried to call them yesterday and the e-mail address they asked me to alert was "returned to sender" as well. Let us know what you hear if you call them today....

I thought that AE had specifically requested to not submit until they sent out the e-mail. Have they sent it?

The form might not be ready yet. There is also a typo on the top: I think it should read "Deferred 2009 Admission", not 2008.

I didn't realize Loyola screens either. I don't think I have a problem getting it though. *Cross fingers*

This has been a slow week - no secondaries since last Thursday for me.

Sucks, because I use the threat of having a bunch to do to finish up the ones before, so I am taking forever on the one I have to do

Hey guys. I'm new to the SDN and don't want to ruffle feathers by posting all over the place. I originally posted a question regarding secondary LOR's in the Non-trad forum, but perhaps there will be more feedback here (reading some of the threads suggests so).

Summary:
I've been working in Healthcare Admin. for a nursing home in the years since graduating. I have one LOR from an anatomy professor for whom I worked during and after college and I have one LOR from the Medical Director of the community for which I work. The third one's where I am stuck.

I don't have any LOR-worthy contacts for my non-science undergraduate major, so I was thinking about doing a second letter from my professional experiences. I've had two options recommended: the director of resident care (an LPN, not MD) or a retired physician who lives within the community where I work and has ties in medicine. Would an LPN’s professional opinion of me carry any weight with an AdCom? Would a retired physician’s opinion of me carry weight?

Any suggestions, thoughts?

Advice is greatly appreciated.

If you're curious, this is the link to my original thread, which has more detail:

Many thanks!

Just got an email from UCSF saying that my verified AMCAS was received and is under review. Decisions on secondaries will be made sometime in the next 12 weeks.

Yeah me too. Ugh, 12 weeks is a long time.

I posted a reply to your question on your other thread, just b/c this topic doesnt mesh that well with this particular thread

looks like you and i are in a race 😛.

22/26, 44 total.

i didn't do anything remotely related to secondaries the past four days, i love vacation.

44!!!!!!!!!!!😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱

and people are astounded when I tell them Im applying to 16!!

I didn't get that email!! 🙁

Not that it matters... 😳

don't worry, i didn't get the e-mail either.....
... okay i am a bit worried. 😳

They haven't downloaded all of our AMCAS apps yet. They have a big pile to get through. Give it a few days, if you're already verified.

Anyone else having issues with Tulane's secondary? It isn't intuitive.

Edit: Ok, I had a 1D-10T error....

(1D10T looks alot like Idiot doesn't it?)

Thanks for the info, now I can continue my work day with less stress. 👍

Did you get an email? It isn't up on their website.

Received an email.

Although interests may change, at the present time, in what field of medicine are you most interested?

Please list your hobbies and major non-academic interests (e.g., items you collect, genre of favorites reading material).

List any leadership positions, in clubs or organizations, you may have held during your college

What was the single most meaningful volunteer experience you have had?

Briefly describe the reasons for your interest in the Tulane University School of Medicine.

No word limits listed.

Did anyone else not receive NYU's and Tufts'? 🙁

Tufts but no NYU. Nothing to worry about, though. There's plenty of application season left!👍:luck:

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give insights on how to approach a question like "what makes you special?" in 250 words. There are so many things one could offer, but is there something specific they're looking for? Like general guidelines...non-medically related things, passion, goals, etc.?

Thanks!
Monica T.

any news from the UC's?

any news from the UC's?

I got an email from UCSD on Monday saying it can take 6-8 weeks for the initial screening.
UCSF (today) email saying 12 weeks (as was previously noted).
UC Irvine (today) did not say how long it'd take, just that applicants who are offered a secondary will be notified by email

I just got my invite for UC Irvine. I was very surprised that they didn't screen me out. Its my reach reach...rip out my arm kinda school

you actually got a secondary application today? or was it something where you could just check your application status (cuz that's what i got)?

I got two emails...one telling me that i can check my status and one that told me that i had been invited for a secondary.

I received an invite to fill out the secondary as well. First UC... and hopefully not the last.

Hi everyone, thank you so much for posting the secondaries when they come out, this is a great way to start things early. I also just received two emails from UC Irvine, one saying my primary was received and the other inviting me for a secondary, so here are the prompts (my way to give back to you all). Can someone please link this to the running list on the first page? Thanks.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

You are receiving a UC Irvine, School of Medicine 2009 Secondary Application. It is very important that you carefully read the instructions for the secondary application. The online application is available at http://www.healthaffairs.uci.edu/admissions/. (requires assigned password to enter)
In evaluating applicants with a variety of backgrounds and strengths the Admissions Committee assesses each applicant as to what they can contribute to their class. Please describe to the Admissions Committee what you have to offer in this regard. (1,800 characters, with spaces).

Please describe to the Admissions Committee a challenge you have overcome and what you learned about yourself from that experience. (1,800 characters, with spaces).

This essay is only for applicants that have already received their baccalaureate degree. Please clarify for the Admissions Committee your activities (school, work and/or volunteer, travel, etc.) since receiving your undergraduate degree. You may list them in chronological order or you may incorporate them into an essay, stating why you chose particular activities. (1,800 characters, with spaces).

so has anyone actually received the e-mail saying to submit AE secondary?

I called Tufts today about not receiving their secondary, and the nicest lady EVER explained that there was a small glitch in the system. It will be fixed soon and we will all get our secondary....she was almost nicer that Vanderbilt admissions..🙂

It's out.

No essays, but they have a recommendation form that is "suggested" to be used in lieu of a traditional LOR. Since my profs are taking forever to write mine, I'm gonna pass on that.

Finally got BU- at 3 AM this morning!?!
No NYU or AECOM yet but at least I have some essays to work on.

Edit: Spoke too soon, just got both of them via email. Kinda creepy...maybe the adcoms know who I am. j/k

Got NYU finally a bit ago.

Many of my secondaries have spots to enter MCAT scores. I took my MCAT on 7/10, so I'm obviously still waiting for my scores. Do I have to wait to get the scores before I send in the secondaries, or can I just enter the date I took the exam and trust that my scores will be transmitted to them?

I got Einstein too- i filled it out though and when i pressed submit to print, it was all blank again. Anyone else having trouble with Einstein?

Finally got BU this morning!!! No NYU 🙁

Just got an email inviting me to submit the secondary (which is posted online). But, Toledo screens so I think you should only fill it out after being invited.

Somebody posted the questions in an earlier post - but just the usual and one wanting to describe a life experience where you demonstrated cultural competence.

finally got BU and einstein.... no NYU 🙁 then again im behind nyway. still need to write mt sinai essays before i get started on BU

hmm anyone else get this?

Basically, if you reach their number cut offs, they will offer you an interview. As to what those numbers are, I forget, but they are high.

If you reach their number cut-offs, and are from a top school.

Basically, if you reach their number cut offs, they will offer you an interview. As to what those numbers are, I forget, but they are high.

In an online chat session, Director Ruiz said the following (even though this is publicly available on the internet, I worry about quoting him when he asked not to, so please do read carefully that these numbers are estimates and change yearly):
54321 (Jun 13, 2007 7:09:37 PM)
Will there be automatic interview invites again this year and what are the cutoffs for in-state and out of state?

RobertRuizMichigan (Jun 13, 2007 7:11:04 PM)
54321-yes, Not sure on the numbers-so don't quote me as they are going up since our applicant pool was up 20% last year and we anticipate another 20% jump this year. ...so I'm thinking 3.8/ 38 for non-residents and 3.75/36 for Michigan Residents. While the auto interview is nice it only applies to about 15% of all our interview offers
