the earthquake is a blessing in disguise.

it gives me more time to finish UCSD...

on the top left it says "applicant status". that should take you to the status page.

Oh! its working now. I guess they needed a few minutes to update my thing.

edit: i see in the email that they say they review completed apps from Oct-March. Does that mean that theres no advantage to submitting now vs october? (trying to prioritize the ones that are rolling now)

This secondary is pretty lame. Very open questions in very different areas with shallow 800 character responses=fail.

Can a volunteer activity (soup kitchen) be considered an extracurricular activity?

If you're asking "Can I write about working in a soup kitchen for the prompt that asks for a volunteer activity?" then the answer is yes.

But you phrased the question backwards, so I'm not sure if this is what you mean.

No, I am asking if it can apply to this:
Describe involvement in the ONE most important non-academic activity that has been important in your life?


Or is this only for clubs etc?
 
How important do you think it is to write something for every question? I know it says its not necessary, but I'm assuming if someone left more than half blank that is bad...for instance I can't think of any honors i've achieved, let alone one that is important enough to write about.

Clubs, etc, imo. i.e. competing in sports, photography, frequent traveling, etc. I guess you could include a volunteer activity for that since it is non-academic. I'm not putting down a volunteer activity since they ask that later. It would seem redundant.

I'm debating over that one as well since the last time I got a formal award (other than something for my job, which is non-healthcare related), was in high school. I mean formal award as in recognition for something other than GPA.

I'd guess that they're not going to throw your app in the trash just because you didn't answer all of them, but consider this: all else being equal, whose app do you think they're going to favor, the person who has significant activities for each question, or the person who left half of them blank?

I think this means anything outside of taking classes and doing research? (Research is considered an academic activity, isn't it?)

I think it's probably safe to talk about anything you want here. You could talk about one volunteer activity here if you have a second one to talk about in the actual "volunteer" question.

I agree - I think you should try to answer every question. If you have no formal honors, you can probably talk about an informal honor you've received.
 
Do any of you know what to do if you haven't yet completed Stats, but will take it if you're accepted? When I click the "No" for completing the math requirement, it doesn't let me fill in anything on when I would finish.

could an M.P.H. be a "scholarly activity"? i wasn't sure since it is school but its not required school like undergrad

I am having issues with this one as well.

I am not sure if they are looking for a particular instance (ex- going to New Orleans to help relief efforts), or an on-going activity (ex- actively involved in church).

😕 I'm confused. My app was verified two days ago, got a secondary from UCLA yesterday, and got the ucla "amcas received" notification email today. what's up with that??

Do we know if they actually send a notice when you're complete? Cause if not, I mean, they have my secondary and they already got my LOR's, so I guess I'm complete?
 
So my most important honor is recieving research fellowships two years in a row, but my most important scholarly project is my research! Can I talk about the actual award for the honor question but the details of my research for the project question? Or is it jsut all too redundant?

Also, since the non-academic activity question says "in my life" can I write about something that I did a long time ago? Or should it be recent? For example, I did a lot of acting when I was younger and it really affected my life (thats why i moved to California and on and on and on) but I haven't done it for a long time. ANy thoughts?
