We should also put if you are a re-applicant
and make sure to get previous year's data in here somehow...
I think this would make future umass applicants only more neurotic😀

If possible, I think we should probably also put our initials, height, weight and credit card numbers. I think this is the only way to TRULY decipher UMass's admissions process 😛

P.S. if anyone takes my number one draft pick tomorrow, I will be very sad!

3.9, 29T, and I have an achey knee. See if we can cross reference that with how much wood a woodchuck chucks if a woodchuck could chuck norris.

You guys keep making me laugh! I know this is hard to believe, but I don't know my official AMCAS GPA (never looked and still don't want to. I think it is around 3.5, but I am afraid it might be lower, which is why I don't look.) I added my info....

You forgot parents' occupations and astrological sign!😉

Why does AMCAS ask for parents' occupation? And how the hell do they verify that?

I would love to get my hands on the AMCAS database... and see the success rate of applicants by parental occupations/education. Obviously, I would expect children of docs to do well (and there are many confounding factors to account for with that) but I wonder if the opposite is true - that is, are there other occupations that predict success?
Do med schools practice an affirmative action policy based on parental occupation - like if you are the first in your family to go to college you get extra points or something. Would be interesting to see...

I also was talking with a prof. in a grad program where I got rejected (Grad schools show me no love) and he was saying how there is NO WAY he would get in based on the applicants today and how competitive things are - so got me thinking of a comparison study of:
MCAT/GPA of med school faculty vs. MCAT/GPA of entering class

What % of faculty at schools would actually get accepted to their own schools if they re-applied with their original applications from way back?

You could then possibly make the case that the over reliance on these numeric stats is no predictor of future success/compassion as a physician... which people seem to understand but still they think this is the only way to deal with 10,000 apps...

but i ramble about things that will never happen due to too much caffeine fueled anxiety 😛

Just adding my info. I'm ever so glad that my insanity is viewed so humorously by so many. Also, a butterfly flapped its wings in Australia the day I interviewed and I wasn't wearing underwear when I submitted my AMCAS application. 😀

Thanks for that, thompa 😉 I am pretty sure I was wearing underwear, so that can't be the reason we haven't heard anything.

So moral of the story: wear underwear while submitting... what you don't know is that UMass has a secret camera in it's application...

In all seriousness though, I actually didn't know that my application submitted every time I pressed save... I submitted it about 19 times. Including an essay on how my favorite book was Harry Potter, that I wrote as a joke. (Well, it is my favorite book... but I didn't think an essay would work so well.) So, if I was accepted, I'm thinking they don't care too much about your underwear status.

Thompa, I hope you make it to our not-yet-accepted shindig a week from tomorrow.....For some reason, I think I know you are in East Cambridge???

Thompa, I hope you make it to our not-yet-accepted shindig a week from tomorrow.....For some reason, I think I know you are in East Cambridge???

Please wear undies though.

You mean this wasn't a no-pants party? That changes everything.

Virusgirl just asked for undies...nothing about pants.

Also, I am not in east cambridge, nice try stalker! I currently reside in suburbia H-E-double hockey sticks. As for the shindig, I would come but I'm going on vacation that day. Won't be back until May 6th. Maybe we'll all have something to celebrate then :xf:.

Well, since rowdy and scrubslover seem so eager to get naked for us, I wouldn't want to spoil their fun!

Sorry you won't be able to make it, thompa!

Hey now, I never said anything about ME not wearing pants! It just changed my plans about whether or not to bring my camera... obviously. 😛

Actually, the 24th was only a suggestion, as Fridays seem to be rough days for all of us. If people have an overwhelming desire for a different day, that's fine with me.

for those that were waitlisted, when you log into your status page, has that changed at all?

all this time i've been saying that i just want to hear back... so here we go!

:luck: *crosses fingers for everyone*

So rowdy and scrubs, are you in for next Fri shindig? (and anyone else, of course!)

next Friday might be tough for me. I have a happy thing at work Friday at 4pm. Maybe Saturday night, get ripped, that sorta thing???

Next Friday is actually UMass second look, so I'll be there... I'm sorry!!

I know you guys don't want to jinx yourselves, but everyone is very welcome to come out this Saturday in Central Square! It'd be really fun to have you all join!!

Scrubs, you have already been accepted! I am sure you are lovely, but you aren't invited. You have your own acceptance party to go to.

Thompa, I thought you said you worked next to the Cambridgeside Galleria? I live in suburbia too but love it.

I think we should have the bottomless party, like in Harold and Kumar! Topless parties are so overdone!

I was just responding to Virusgirl's lovely invitation 🙂 Don't worry, I won't crash your party!

But Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay was surprisingly hilarious!!

jka, you and thompa should come see Bolton, where I live. BOLTON. I bet half the people on this thread have never heard of it. Now that is suburbia!

SPOILER ALERT FOR HOUSE FANS!!

Did anyone else catch the continuity between Kal Penn's character as Kumar and his character on House?
I think he just changed his name after med school...

It was sad to see him commit suicide, RIP Kumar  but for Kal Penn he can now get away from being typecast as a stoner/doctor

Did you guys want accepted peeps' stats? I should, if nothing else, give you all lots and lots of hope. I have worked at a medical school for the past 3 years, working with their courses and research - so I think that helped, but my stats are certainly not average.

I don't think I did...and if I did, I was lying horribly. I work in Waltham, I used to work in Lexington. I did interview/was offered at job at the Broad Institute before I took this position in Waltham, which is something I think I posted back on some previous page.

And all of you are more than welcome to join me on the infield dirt at Churchill Downs the first saturday in May for the Ketucky Derby....aka the most exciting 2 minutes in sports. Bottoms (and tops) are definitely optional there!

wow that is out there... and to think I usually consider Cambridge the burbs! (i live in fenway)

Mini-House Rant:

He should have gone to another hospital or something. The way his character was written, he seemed to have like all the coping mechanisms someone could want. Of all the characters in the series, he seems like the least likely to kill himself. I found it completely unbelievable, and then when they justified it with one semi-serious/sad picture... ugh.

He was also my favorite character of the new team, I really don't care about the other two, and I thought he was really enjoyable. It was sad to see him go in general.

Did anyone else have that reaction to it?

Heck yes, we want your stats too! This isn't a decent study without good positive controls! 🙂

Yes, totally. He was the best character in the new team by far and he was the only one with a sense of humor besides House. 13 has grossed me out since I learned she was a coke-head (ew) and that nasal oriented egotistical plastic surgeon makes the whiny Chase look good.

for those that were waitlisted, when you log into your status page, has that changed at all?

all this time i've been saying that i just want to hear back... so here we go!

:luck: *crosses fingers for everyone*

bad tab

The chemistry group...of which they probably have more than one, so my apologies if that doesn't help. I wish I had better info for you. To be honest their offer wasn't very good, so I basically have forgotten most of that interview/offer process. They do have a lot of really cool equipment though. I'd take just one of their 14 bajillion LC/MS. Sigh.

HOUSE SPOILER!!

As for House, I'm really not happy Kutner is gone. He was fun to watch. The plastic surgeon is annoying, foreman has become a non-entity, and 13 is nowhere near as much fun as cameron. All that being said, I have a man crush on Hugh Laurie. There...I said it. Judge me, I dare you.

I also really liked Cutthroat Bitch (although most of my friends did not), so I'm happy she's coming back...even if she's still dead and a just a hallucination.

Amber is much better dead than alive, but still annoying.

It's Friday! Good luck today. I came to the realization last night that this forum is probably the worst and unhealthiest thing for any of us to be doing, but it's like a train crash, you just have to look!!!

Don't assume too much about the admissions process because, seriously, who the f*ck knows, right?

Anyways, best of luck today to you all!

jka, you and thompa should come see Bolton, where I live. BOLTON. I bet half the people on this thread have never heard of it. Now that is suburbia!

Bolton is my favorite suburb! I used to drive past it all the time going from my parents' house to college. That's where I want to move after I have an M.D., a trophy husband, and 2.3 kids

P.S. You can't beat Bolton in the fall... apple-picking, cider, farms, etc. Good times... Anyone else live in the city and hate it?

Good morning, friends!!

Cameron really doesn't look right blonde. And Cuddy needs to change her hair to something that will go better with her hot bod.

Thompa - guess what? I work in Waltham too!!! on beaver st. Wouldn't it be funny if you were in the same building!

I did the majority of my driver's ed hours in Bolton, AND I had my prom there 🙂

Good luck today everyone. I'm going to call today and see if I can get them to tell me when the last admissions committee meeting is/was, which should at least give us a little information.

Does anyone else feel like their life is a string of angsty fridays?

Ahh I feel like its useless to still have hope but I still get so wound up on Fridays. I don't have a computer where I work so I have to live through my blackberry. I check this thread constantly because I can't check my umass status. And my heart skips a beat every time I get an email. Here's to another stressful day in Chelsea

Booooooooo! You are a stinker for not coming here! Do you realize the chem synth group is one floor below me? Thompa, we could have helped each other get through the misery of Fridays... and had I deemed you worthy, I would even have shared my green skittles with you in consolation! (they are my favorites and I only share them with good people) But, you had to be a tool and go somewhere else because they offered you more $$. Whatever. I reiterate: you are a stinker. 😛

And for the record, the chem group has ghetto LC-MS (as ghetto as anything could be at the Broad). You should be lusting after my 4 Orbitraps and my FT!

In other news, another Friday, another day of silence...
