I'm hoping it just means that they're under-accepting and the waitlist will actually move this year.

I feel like they couldn't possibly have filled their class so early. Why bother interviewing people for spots on a waitlist? But it seems like no one on SDN who interviewed after October has been accepted, which is strange because there are a lot of us and SDNers seems to have a higher acceptance rate than the average population. And that was the only reason Dr. H. gave when I asked about getting waitlisted.

I hope so. By the way, did he say anything else for what to do next ?.

I don't think there's anything to be done next. We're on a waitlist. We wait. If there are spots open this year, they'll review it in June.

He said I could arrange a meeting with him if I want to talk about it more.

If this year doesn't work out, I'll be applying again next year - really early!

I thought I'd contribute to this wait-list discussion as well...

I interviewed in early Nov and was waitlisted 12/31. NJMS was my first interview and I am IS. I haven't heard a final decision from anywhere else yet but I've had 3 other interviews and have 2 more lined up. I thought my interview went fine...applying late here was clearly a bad idea.

Yet another for the waitlist...Interviewed on 12/31 and got the letter today.

just trying to make sense of all the waitlists, but maybe they're getting more applicants than ever before (and got them earlier)? it's very hard to justify going for anything private or out-of-state given the economy and uncertainty over future earning capacity...

so, just to be clear, if NJ residents are being put on WL, there's no chance they'll offer more interviews to OOS this late in the cycle?

So in past years, does movement off the waitlist actually start occuring in mid-June, like they say? I know last year there was no movement, but has anyone heard/know anything of previous years' waitlists.

There might be a chance but not a good one. Maybe if you have real good credentials and weren't complete til close to the deadline but its unlikely.

It is tough being OOS. The viewbook they gave at the interview says 1178 IS applicants and 3154 OOS applicants. They gave 655 interviews (no breakdown IS/OOS). 357 IS and 38 OOS were accepted. Thats a tough hole to start in.

Hmm....that sounds pretty grim for us OOS'ers. but in any case, thanks for the info.

It seems pretty late for them to start in June. Does anyone have any idea whether they look at the waitlist before June ( any previous applicants ) ?.

They are unlikely to look at the waitlist until June, because the last day to hold multiple acceptances is May 15. So, everyone they accepted will tell them yes or no by May 15. Then they will look at the waitlist to fill any open spots.

If they really normally accept that large a percentage of interviewees, it doesn't make any sense that all of us have been getting waitlisted.

You do realize how small of a sample SDN is, don't you? Many of my pre-med friends never even heard of SDN, much less post here.

also that was last year and as we all know, they over accepted and the wait list didn't move. I am sure the percentage will go down this year.

Of course, but if those numbers were also true of this year, more than half of interviewed applicants should be getting accepted. Obviously, SDN is a horrible representative sample, but that usually leans in the direction of getting higher scores and more acceptances than normal.

I'm just trying to foster hope that the waitlist will actually move this year. I should probably obsess less. 😳

medgrl30, Congrats on RWJMS. Interview on 1/13 and accepted 1/27...Wow. Well done. I hoped NJMS will do the same. But they didn't.

I agree, but this year only few on the acceptance list. May be they accpeted few or may be many are not writing here in SDN or many outsiders were accepted this year. Idk. Who would have thought, NJMS would waitlist people as early as from Oct interviews.

My premed advisor said that NJMS always fills its class REALLY fast, but who knows......I plan to withdraw from the alternate list at NJMS....good luck! 🙂

anyone hear anything new?
It seems less sdners applied to njms this time or they are not writing here, because the traffic is very low this year in NJMS thread. How about you muggle911, you've been waiting for a while. Anything new ?

yep, I checked last years NJ thread and it seems like people were updating all the time.
I'm still waiting...no news yet.

I've been complete with them since early Sept., and have heard absolutely nothing since. I'm assuming a silent rejection.

hey nanon, thanks for adding to the thread🙂 sorry you haven't heard yet, they're not being too friendly with their OOS applicants.

They aren't even friendly to us NJ residents. Many of us are on the waitlist. Where is the instate love for us ?. Anyway...good luck to all.

True...just to second what you said, :luck::luck::luck: to everyone. I'm still trying to think positive🙂.

Wow...5 days without any activity in this thread. Did NJMS stopped interview invites, acceptances and waitlists...everything ?. Or nobody is writing here ?. Both NJ school threads are very slow this year.

bumping this again. Has anyone heard any news lately??

interviewed in January, now on the "alternate list"

i got to be the first rejection from this school to post on the rejection thread. good luck to everyone who's still waiting to hear!

Hello all! I don't know if it helps, but I interviewed on Nov 5th and was accepted January 7th. They took forEVER to get back to me, but it was a lovely early birthday present. Good luck to everyone who's still waiting!!!

Here I'm waiting till June for the list to move....who knows whether it will move or not. Anyway, muggle911, you have RWJMS. Do you prefer NJMS more ?

Hey NJmed, I pretty much like them both (RWJ is pass/fail, but NJMS has great clinical experiences right away - and this would keep me motivated). Honestly, if all things were equal, I would probably go to RWJ, but I'm also thinking about financial aid. That's why I'm still waiting for a NJMS decision.

Good luck with the waitlist:luck::luck::luck:. Hopefully they won't overbook their class like they did last year and it will move for you and for others in this thread.🙂

Thanks bud. I really hope so too. Hopefully we all can be NJMS class of 2013

woohoo. Waitlist😎. That only took 4 months:yawn:.

Is it possible to extrapolate the length of the current waitlist based on the date one was waitlisted. Let's try to figure out that list, it would be very informative if we knewa rough estimate of where people are at. I've been waitlisted and I have a feeling that the list will move this year! 🙄:xf:

I too hope it will move. Hope they understand our waiting !!

Is there a ranking system on the waitlist based on stats? Or is it those placed on the waitlist first will be taken off first? Anyone know??

hey all. I was wondering if anybody knows the scoop regarding scholarships at RWJ? Have they already given out all their merit scholarships? Are they typically generous w/ their aid? It would make a huge difference in my decision so I'm just trying to gather any info I can..

good luck to those on the waitlist!

you're in the NJMS thread, not RWJ🙂

Hey guys! For all us lucky acceptees, do we have a Class of 2013 thread yet? Shall I start one? I'm so excited to meet you all, and I have tons of questions about what to expect next year.

There is a UMDNJ-NJMS class of 2013 thread, and a facebook group

Any news on waitlist movement, ranking ?.

BUMP. Anyone know what's going on with the waitlist. If it's even going to move this year?

After a month with NO POSTS , any updates guys ?. Any news about the waitlist ?. Anybody contacted the admissions office ?.

For those of you who do not have an acceptance anywhere else I know the wait can be excruciating. I do not have any details but I do know that people are still being accepted. I have herd that the waitlist is very long this year on account of the large class size last year.

I wish you guys had more information with regard to your standing this application cycle but take comfort in knowing that many, many applicants (and now medical students) have stood where you are today.

Best of luck this cycle....this really is the hardest part of your medical education.

Hey everyone, I am recent graduate of the GSBS at NJMS, and am currently waitlisted. I thought I'd update this thread with the info I know about the current admissions cycle.

1) As previously stated, they over-admitted, badly last year (class size of 197 with a target size of 170). An effort was made this year to prevent that from happening again. When I last spoke with Dr. Heinrich a few weeks back he was fairly confident that the waitlist would be moving this year. Anecdotal evidence tends to agree with that assessment. Of the three candidates outright accepted in the regular decision process from my program (that I happen to know), they are all going elsewhere (Drexel, Wake Forest, RWJ). A good number of us in the program were waitlisted though.

2) That being said, they are also aware that any movement will be within reason. Letters are going out to waitlisted candidates that they know will not be needed. As the summer moves along, more letters may go out informing waitlisted candidates that they will not be getting in.

3) The waitlist isn't ranked as such, candidates are grouped into pools, from what I gathered from Dr. Heinrich. I am not sure if this has been completed for the entire waitlist yet or what, but from my own experience and that of what I have heard from others, Dr. Heinrich may be able to give you a general idea of where on the list you stand.

4) I will be dropping by the admissions office this week and I will see what info I can gather on how the adcom's meetings post 5/15 have been and when the first waitlisted candidates can expect some good news.

Good Luck everyone!
