Hey,
I got an invite to day, wondering if I have to reply or call to confirm the interview date. Or do i just show up?

I went ahead and gave them a call that I would be attending. One of those things to play on the "safe side". A couple of days before your scheduled date they will send you a confirmatory email. If you will be there Monday, I will see you there! Congrats.

If we get to the interview early, where do we go? Just to the admissions office to hang out and chat with the other applicants?

Yes. I recommend going a little early (1/2 hour to 1 hour) to meet the other applicants. It might help calm you down before your interview to know that you're not the only nervous one. Who knows, you might even meet a future classmate!

I got there early and the people at the admissions office said I could attend classes if I wanted.

I actually met 2 of my WSU classmates while interviewing at other schools.

Does anyone know the % of OOS applicants who are accepted after the interview?

For those of you who were accepted on Dec 17th (Congrats! :soexcited::claps::banana::biglove:), have you received the official acceptance packet yet? I'll be going away for the holiday break and was wondering if there is time sensitive material included. Thanks!

if i have an interview on the 26th and the call-in date is the 28th, and they review applications at the beginning of the month, that means they won't be able to review mine in time for the 28th right? did anyone hear of an acceptance 2 days after their interview (if your interview happened to be 2 days before the call-in date)

yeah they probably wont have a decision by then.. i interviewed on dec. 15th and called on the 17th, they said they didnt present my application to the committee yet, so i gotta wait til january to find out

Called in on the 17th, found out I'm on the waitlist 🙁 Anyone else in the same boat?

hey, theres a 50 dollar deposit that you have to get back to them within 3 weeks to hold your seat.. so definitely make sure u get that in!! and congrats!

If by wait list you mean under further review then I'm in the same boat. I interviewed in October. Basically, we have an equal chance of being accepted at each offer of admission during the cycle. Last year, for in-state applicants, they had 521 interviewed 246 matriculated. If that many interviewees were matriculated just think how many were actually accepted. This logic keeps me going. I have a hunch that the people they've accepted thus far are either at the top of their entering class or going to a more prestigious school. Anyways, good luck on January 28th.

Yep, I am currently "under review". I also agree with your theory about only accepting more competitive applicants first. My friend who has great stats just found out she's accepted, but she doesn't plan on going to wayne state. I hear that most people under review are accepted in april, may and june. Hopefully we'll hear some good news on the 28th 🙂

sooo any accepted applicants going to be attending wayne for sure next year?

hey, kinda random question, but I am here in Detroit to interview and saw a car where I am with a MN license plate, just curious if any other Minnesotans are here to interview this week?

Feel free to PM me

There was something here. If you didn't see it, great! If you did, too bad. :O

(It was a silly application question.)

Anyone worried about what is happening in Detroit? Especially with the automakers almost tanking, people getting put out of jobs, on top of the already less than safe environment? I've heard a lot of bits and pieces of Detroit citizens doing crazy things, such as setting houses on fire while drunk, and various violent activities.

I'm 95% sure I'm going. Anyone thinking about studio one apartments?

Im considering a 1 apartment in the Chatsworth Complex. Looks like good prices and close to the main buildings.

Well, unless you plan to LIVE or spend large amounts of time in the ghetto, than these things aren't going to be a problem. If you take issue with these things do like 2/3 of the class and live OUTSIDE of the city. Royal Oak and Grosse Point are quite nice and less than a 20 min commute. WSUSOM is in Midtown, which if you acutally check out is a decent area. Lots of museums (DIA, for example) and other culturally stimulating venues.

Detroit gets a bad rap, esp. from people WHO HAVE NEVER BEEN HERE. I can give you hearsay anecdotal stories about anyplace you name. Yeah, it does have its problems. But when you volunteer out in the community here, you know it is actually helping someone who needs it. You will see things here other places can only talk about.

Ahh, Grosse Pointe! Sorry, I live here and it's a pet peeve when people forget the E 🙂 (But yes, it is a nice area, and very convenient to Downtown--you don't even need to get on the freeway.)

I totally second what FrickenhugeMD said. Not only does Detroit have a lot to offer in terms of medical training (Detroit Receiving Hospital is the gunshot wound capital of the world... what better place to get trauma training?) but there's also a lot of opportunities to give back to the city.

Also, I certainly have heard nothing about people randomly setting things on fire... Not since the '67 riots in any case.

I was referring to this: http://www.studio1apartments.com/index.php

for me it's between this and University Towers. Both are close to Scott Hall.

oh wow this place is really nice.. i didnt even know about it..

right now i am like 90% going to WSU.. id like to live in the city, esp walking distance from the school, so i was considering university towers.. but this place looks pretty nice tooo

I feel the same about living in midtown. The rates are comparable between studio1 and the university towers, although studio1 doesn't include utilities (but much nicer apartments). I'm going to set up an appointment to check out the apts sometime this month.

Jeez. Those look awesome. Be sure to post here your impressions !

Is there a class of 2013 up on facebook or is there a thread on SDN that I haven't noticed, yet? Also, does anyone know how bike friendly Wayne is?

Hey everyone,

Like many of you, I am anxiously awaiting the Jan 28th call in date. I had my interview way back in october, on the 14th, and like others am still "under review". I just really want to get it in already as wayne is my top choice! Has anyone thought about writing a letter of intent to Wayne or know of people that have? I think thats what I am going to do next. Thats my plan anyways.

Best of luck to everyone!

Hey, I'm in the same boat (interviewed late October). I called to ask about letters of intent and the lady on the phone told me it wouldn't make a difference. Basically, they're completely finished reviewing our applications and we have a certain score. She said a letter wouldn't hurt but it wouldn't help either.

I asked her what the score meant and she said it wouldn't mean anything to me. She made it sound like everyone is ranked somewhere and we just gotta hope they get down to our names.

I know some people that ride bikes to Scott Hall. There were some stolen bikes a couple months ago so they got a cadet to guard the bikes. I'm not sure if that is still going on.

I have heard of the ranking thing when I was there once for a conference and there was a pre-med Q&A. They explained it as having this grid that had different categories, like MCAT, gpa, clinical experience... blah blah... and they rate you in each of those categories from what I remember. I sure hope they get to us soon though! Not sure how much more of this waiting game I can handle!

Hmm a grid? Yeah lets hope they decide soon. Waiting is awful. It gets worse each month. I want to plan my summer around whether I get in or not. I really want to go to Wayne too...

I put up a facebook group..just search Wayne State University Class of 2013.

Rec'd an email from Dawn about my Wayne State University ID and Access ID, and the like today. I still haven't made a final decision about whether to go or not (even though I've paid my deposit) so it seems kind of weird to be getting these things right now at this point in time.

I remember my interviewer had a sheet with a grid. It looked like they had criteria organized by columns and my interviewer had circled some of the stuff on there. So, it's true what they told you.

It's for your benefit. You should do the scholarship application ASAP if you want to be considered. You should also get your FAFSA completed. You haven't gotten the med school email or anything yet just the university wide email that we don't really use. We just have the @wayne.edu emails forwarded to our @med.wayne.edu.

does anyone know if university towers has a website? if so, can you post it? I tried to google it, but nothing came up as their official website. thanks!

I'am 95% sure I will be attending WSU. I'm from California and I was wondering how many Cali students are typically in a med class at WSU.
