I am out of state (Canadian) and got accepted during their last decision day. I interviewed about 3 weeks before that. Since I got accepted to my top choice I'll be turning this one down though, so hopefully one of you will get my spot!
nice one!
i hope evbdy here gets into their top choice and doesn't have to shell out the OOS tuition for wayne!

Or how many seats are actually filled now?
Or how many seats are actually filled now?
every month they aim to fill 1/6 of the class
they will be at a full class on march 25th
accepting march interviewees and pulling ppl off waitlists to be able to do so.
after this.... withdrawals = more waitlist movement
seeing as about a third of interviewees are accepted at WSU (US news)
i would think the bottom third of the waitlist never gets accepted
while the top third does
and as for the middle third.... theres room for variance
Actually I'm pretty sure they interview in April also and at least late march interviewees don't know their fate until the end of April so it seems unlikely they have filled their class by march 25th. Also, more instate people are wait-listed than oos and if you look at their stats more than half of IS interviewees matriculate which means more than that has to be accepted. my guess is that they over-accept OOS more than instate which would lead to greater waitlist movement. but yeah whether that means a third, half, 2 thirds, who knows. Hopefully for everyone waiting it's a whole bunch 🙂

my understanding is that IIS'ers and OOS'ers are on separate lists, because well, lets face it the stats required for an IIS to get in are less at any given point than they are for an OOS. its the way of any state school.
(edit) April 29th is the last call in date, they fill up to 300 on that date.
even if they interview after that, its interviewing for positions that have opened up with withdrawals.

^ is there even an OOS waitlist? I guess they want to keep a certain percentage of OOS but I assumed that's why they over-accepted OOS. But it makes sense that OOS withdrawals would lead to OOS waitlist movement.
The last call in date is April 29, not March 25.

A little late to the party but Congrats! I had a lot of Canada residents during my interview date and it definitely sucks how hard it is to get into a Canada school.

Yeah, the Canada schools are brutal, its so competitive. They have strict GPA/MCAT cutoffs for most schools. The entering average GPA for University of Toronto is something stupid high like a 3.88!
So I have recently heard from a fairly reliable source at WSUSOM that being under further review is altogether different than being on the waitlist? If anyone out there that has been specifically told that they are waitlisted as apposed to being under further review could comment it would be helpful in clarifying this. My "source" also said that it is better to be under further review than put on the waitlist. This doesn't make much sense but if anyone out there could clarify it would be great!

I talked to one of the admissions peeps about this, and the lady said "Under Review" means you're on the waitlist. People on the waitlist are continually reviewed and there is a chance the school might offer you a spot on the next call-in date. Or else you just have to wait till May 15. This is basically what I was told.
Just as a way to remind myself and perhaps others, are these the forms we need to get to WSUSOM?
1. FASFA - ASAP for loans and scholarships
2. Technical Standards Form - @ offer acceptance
3. Transcripts - @ after you graduate
4. Confidentiality Agreement - @ orientation?
5. Physical Form- @ orientation?
6. Hep B tests/vaccines - @orientation?
Maybe:
A. Housing/roommate forms
Am I missing any?

Hey everyone..I am an OOSer that is going to be attending...Just had a quick question for those of you that are maybe a little more familiar with the area. I was looking to live in Royal Oak, I was wondering if any have you any suggestions/recommendations about places in Royal Oak....Any comments are much appreciated👍

Royal Oak is a great area, I don't know anything about the places there but the night life is great and its a younger area. I grew up 5 minutes from there and when I go home for breaks I usually hit up the bars in RO. I am planning on living there too if I get into Wayne 🙂xf🙂, so if you're looking for roommates PM me....
Hey guys! I got accepted to WSU. Does anyone know how quickly they want our transcripts (I've already graduated)? Just a little worried....cause the school I went to is VERY slow in processing transcript requests. Do they want us to send them immediately - just like our deposit?

I think they said they wanted everything by registration. Might as well get them sent in, better sooner than later.

Just throwing this out there... If anyone is looking for a roommate send me a message. I want to live in the University Tower, they are 2 bedroom/2bath and rent is about 1100 a month including all utilities. There is more info on the WSU-SOM web site. I don't really have a preference for a roommate, I am male though. I enjoy my sleep and tend to go to bed/get up early, especially on week days. I will definitely be going to class rather than streaming lectures. I don't have any allergies or special diets or anything. I'm pretty normal, I just don't want a roommate who's going to party all night during the week days, and I want a non-smoker.

Can someone please post the number interviewees have to call to find out if they got in or not? I can't find my sheet anywhere!! Also the next call in date is March 25th right'? Thanks!
i think the number is just the same as the general number you call for the admissions office, so you can probably find that on their website.
good luckk! 👍

Admissions office: (313) 577-1466. And yes, on wednesday!
Good luck to everyone calling in this week! I know I can't really think about anything else.
still under review... how frustrating! Good luck to everyone calling in today

I am wondering if anyone has been accepted off of this "under review" yet this cycle? If you have, can you maybe post when you interviewed, and when you got in? And maybe a little bit about your stats? I'm just trying to make sense of all this.
I agree that I've started to dread these dates. They just set us all up for disappointment. I know they have had issues in the past with accepting too many, so maybe they are just being extra careful and waiting until they know for sure or something. That's all I can think of. Hopefully after may 15th at least we will find out!

This is my first ever post on SDN... I am an OOS (Canada)... I interviewed in Feb... I am also "under review"... I thought my interview went extremely well. In fact, the interviewer told me at the end of the interview that he thinks I will make a great physician.
It has been extremely frustrating.
I wish all of you luck and hope that you will all get accepted.

Hey everyone, just had a question that maybe some of you fellow OOSers may know the answer to. So it looks like for first year, we just have to bite the bullet and fork over the 60k, but after that does anyone know/heard of how lenient the school is on giving in state tuiton after the first year? I've called and asked but all they've told me is that you can apply after 6 months of living there, and you may get it or you may not. I only ask because I know there are some public schools out there that have a reputation of being pretty lenient on in state status after a year...just wondering if anyone had any insight on whether wayne was of of these, thanks, any thoughts are appreciated.

I'm not OOS, but I think I can answer your question. From what I have heard, Michigan schools will not let you transfer your residency status. I believe that it stays at whatever it was when you started at the school. I think you may be able to find it somewhere on the WSU site, it should be defined by the Board of Governers and in their by-laws or something.

Yes, this is my understanding too. Just like the majority of public medical schools, the ones in Michgan won't let you change your residency status if you're an OOS. What matters is where you will have lived prior to, not after, matriculation. This obviously sucks! (Btw I'm also an OOS.😉)

Ugh, I was hoping for better news.....But I guess you can't put a price tag on a good education, right? 🙁
More like they are assuming you will flee from Detroit as soon as you graduate

If you have a spouse that works for a year in Michigan you can transfer. However they do say that the work should be the primary reason to be in Michigan. That or you need a house as your primary residence in Michigan.
hey everyone, good luck on everyone's applications!
me and my roommate are rising second year students and we're looking for a third roommate. we have an apartment in royal oak that is pretty fantastic. as medical students, we study a lot, and you will too, so we're not in the apartment that much. ideally we're looking for another female roommate. we would like someone who can clean up after themselves esp in the common areas, kitchen and bathroom. we're pretty nice people and would love to help get you settled in to first year! here's some more descriptions:
what: 3 bedroom apartment, 1.5 baths. your room would have it's own bathroom (toilet and sink), and the shower/bath is in the other bathroom just outside your room. living and dining area are large. we have a couch/tv area set up and a ping pong table as our study table. everyone loves the pingpong table.
where: 12 mile and campbell road. it's about a minute to get to I-75 and 15 minute door to door for me to get to school. very very convenient. downtown royal oak is 4 minutes away, with coffee shops and such to study at. i'm on main st all the time.
who: me and my roommate are cool people, we think. we're friendly and looking for someone who's nice. as long as you're not completely socially inept, we'll get along fine probably.
when: our 3rd roommate is moving out in 2 weeks, but her lease isn't up until august. we're looking for someone to move in anytime after she's moved out in two weeks and taking over the lease.
why: kuz you're going to wayne and we'd be awesome roommates! 🙂

just thought i'd join in the commiserating. i interviewed dec. 4th and have been 'under review' for the past 4 rounds. in-state, though, so i'm hoping that i get in, no matter how long it takes! i agree, the week before and after the calling-in is tiresome for me and the people around me. we try not to think about it, go to the movies or something!
RO is an awesome place to live, but don't overlook Ferndale and Berkley. There are plenty of apartments (Village Green Townhomes in Oak Park has tons of fellow med students) but don't be afraid of renting a house either. Nowadays you could probably rent a house cheeper than an apartment.Hey everyone..I am an OOSer that is going to be attending...Just had a quick question for those of you that are maybe a little more familiar with the area. I'm in-state, and I interviewed at Wayne State on Dec 17, but have heard absolutely nothing since (due to work, I've not been able to do call-ins in February and March) - is there still a chance that I could have a straight acceptance (vs. being waitlisted?)

They would have mailed you an acceptance packet.
Hey everyone. I am OOS, female and will be withdrawing my acceptance at Wayne State soon. I haven't had time to sit down to write a thoughtful letter to the admissions office yet so if anyone would like to write one for me, it'll help me open another spot for someone who really wants to go here. Just kidding. I'll have the letter sent by the end of this weekend. My interview at Wayne State was my favorite thus far and I wish I could learn medicine in Detroit, but it's too far away from home and too expensive for me to justify picking it over my other acceptance. Good luck to those waiting to hear back.
