I thought I'd start a thread for people who want to put up there stats and date they sent out there application in Texas. I sent out my application the 24th.
cGPA=3.17
sGPA=3.1
DAT= AA-19
TS-20
PA-20

Are you applying out-of-state as well? Looks like your g.p.a will hurt your chances of getting into Texas d-schools. I had almost the exact same gpa and a little higher DAT (20/21/17) and got only 1 interview (baylor) last year. I would recommend applying to a bunch of schools.

I went to two interviews last cycle, Baylor and Houston. My gpa doesnt look good at first glance because I failed outta school five years ago. Since then I've taken about 150 hrs of classes with a 3.5 gpa. Plus I have spent alotta time in Dental Labs and Offices, so I'm hoping this year is my year since I've already turned my app in as opposed to October of last year.

Submited 6/10/2007 (essay took longer than expected. Yuck!)
Overall GPA 3.56 (after some summer courses could change to 3.62)
Science GPA 3.5
DAT AA 18

Do they even look at the other scores? I know Hou and SA use that formula and it doesn't include the other DAT scores. Just the AA. I am retaking the DAT in Sept with the hope of a 20+.

really anxious about dat and have been studying hard...i don't know.. i always go to bed thinking I could have studied harder...but I don't want to kill over...lol....

when do yall think apps will be sent out? aadsas already sent the first batch out 😱

I'm kinda scared some ppl got interviews last cycle as early as August 2nd :scared:

anyways, back to reading...starting destroyer today 👍

I interviewed with Baylor last year and the only DAT score they had in front of them was my science grades I believe. And I just got off the phone with tmdsas and they said they were sending out 500 (wow!!!) applications tomorrow. So if you haven't done your app you better get it in early because interviews start in august.

I know there are probably more applicants this year, but I don't think there is any need to worry. I didn't submit my TMDSAS application until July 10th... nothing was mailed until July 25th. I had interview invitations to San Antonio and Baylor first week of August for September, and Houston invitation in September for October. There is no need to worry.

Best of luck to all! And if you have any questions, feel free to PM me and I will try my best answer (in a timely manner).

why do you think there are more applicants this year?

I'm pretty sure there are more applicants every year... dentistry is a hot profession!

Anyway, I applied a couple of weeks ago, in late May.

GPA: 3.7
sGPA 3.6

DAT 23/22/20 AA/TS/PAT

I'm applying to SA, Baylor, and Houston.

Take into account the number of new applicants each year plus the number of re-applicants each year and it only makes sense there would be an increase in the number of applicants.

Hey Vicarbo, is your family in Texas? If you are living in Nashville, how are you getting around the 90% resident rule? Your scores are great, but some of the school didn't even take out of state people in previous years. Either way, good luck.

Also, 500 apps already being sent out seems pretty high this early. Baylor reported a total of 626 apps in 2005 and 746 apps in 2006. TMDSAS reported 800ish total for 2006 apps. Is there really that many new people? I hope not considering my 18 DAT. haha!

Thats what I was told today. 500 apps. When I submitted my app on May 24 they said they already had 200 apps. So theres going to be more apps this year or everyone is sending in theirs early early this year.

what were your extracurricular activities like? (if you don't mind me asking 😀)

goodluck to all!! 🙂

you received interview invitations but didn't receive any acceptance letters from them?

so tx-dental schools are really only looking at AA?? do they look at each individual section of DAT? because i'm really weak at some sections... 😕

I go to school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, but I'm from Dallas and my family still lives there.

Quick question: Does TMDSAS verify DAT scores- I sent them to the individual schools, but on their page there is a spot for the date DAT scores were received - just like the LOE and transcripts.

Thanks!
Richard

No I didnt get accepted. And to answer another question tmdsas verifies your DAT score

Oh, cool. Well, then you are covered. You should have no problems given your scores and etc...

I had a similar question last week. I called both the TMDSAS and ADA, and they both told me that ADA sends the schools the DAT scores via computer file. The school then enters this into the their system. The last step at TMDSAS, before they send out the apps, is to pull the DAT score from the school's computer system and posts them on the file. The lady at TMDSAS told me they only need the score from one school to post it on your TMDSAS file. Therefore, sending it to all the schools isn't needed according to her.

are u serious??

and they charge us $25 per school for just a few kilobytes of data?😱

Well that sucks because I already paid to send it to all three schools 🙁
How long does it take to verify the DAT scores? or how long does it take ADA to send it out? I sent it awhile ago, and it's still not showing up...

Tmdsas did send out the first batch, I recieved email conformation👍

yea, i called them just now...she said that probably next week (they send out once a week) she said there a lot of ppl before me😡...didn't ask how many though...so hopefully, next wednesday or thursday :luck:

You can look on the TMDSAS website under Status of Application Documents.
http://www.utsystem.edu/TMDSAS/StatusOfApplicationPre-Page.htm
It shows what docs they have posted to your file, when they recieved them, and when they send it to the schools (if it was sent yet).
They seem to be pretty quick with getting everything on the files, because I know when my dentist sent his letter for me and it was posted on my file the same week.

in case this helps anyone, i know i was trying to figure out how long things take to process by reading last cycle's tmdsas thread...

took DAT on 5/15
submitted application online on 5/24
my DAT scores showed up on my profile around 6/6
e-mail from tmdsas saying application had been processed on 6/13

Mine was sent out yesterday as well...I hope AADSAS is working as fast as TMDSAS

Mine was sent out too, YAY! 😀 All done!

On another note, I got to take out #8 & 9 on a patient in the clinic- it was pretty cool...

They won't send the App until they get the DAT score, right?

Glad to see this thread up again for this cycle, BTW🙂

I had everything posted as of 6/13 and they didn't send mine out this week. That sucks! I know it said 2-3 weeks, but I was hoping to get mine in with the first couple of batches. I think they are getting busy and it is taking longer to process them all.

Well, congrats to everyone so far on getting the app out the door. I'm jealous. Next comes the letters from the school letting us know that they received our apps (which means they are sorting and reading apps)... Then interview letters... Good luck everyone!

Has anyone heard of interviews being scheduled by the TX schools yet? I was reading a couple of threads that said some people are already getting letters... I think that is out-of-state schools only.

I called about this same subject two weeks ago. I was told they pull a batch of DAT scores from each school's system each week. The last step, before they send the apps, is apply the score to the file. So without the DAT score the file is not sent.

Unless things have changed since last year, that is not true. My app was submitted and I even had an interview date set prior to taking the DAT.

WOW, I am sorry ... I guess there was some misunderstanding when I called. I asked TMDSAS about this exact subject. 😳 Again, sorry...

Well, my only question is how do you get an interview without a DAT score? It doesn't seem fair to everyone who rushed their DAT so they could get the score in early. I thought the U.T. schools (per their website) used a formula for their candidates and it included the DAT score.

they look at your other things... and they will see when you are planning to take DAT...but with so many competitive applicants this year, they are talking about waiting untill they have a complete file on you to start reviewing it.

The only one I know that publicly publishes the formula is San Antonio. Just keep in mind that the DAT is only one part of the entire application. If you look at the stats on the TMDSAS website you will see that 13 people were accepted to Texas schools with no DAT scores in 2006. I can't answer why, because I never asked. I guess they made an assumption with my GPA and experience that my DAT scores would be good. So, I wouldn't "rush" your DAT. Take your time. My app was in Aug, my DAT in Sept, interview Oct, and accepted Dec. It is no necessary to have everything done by May or June.

wow...did you talk to someone about this?

any word on interviews yet? Do they send out letters to everyone who gets an interview right away, or do they wait, say two weeks prior to the interview date and then send out the letters? So if someone was going to get an interview in october they wouldn't hear about it until september. Right/Wrong?

That's the way it was for me. I got a letter in Sept for an interview a little over a month later. The whole process is a lot of hury up and wait. You have to find something else to think about or you will drive yourself crazy.

I recieved an e-mail from baylor saying they've got about 300 applications in so far, and the earliest you could possibly hear back from them is in late july. I'm sure this about average for all the schools in texas.

when did you get this? randomly? or did you email them? sent in your secondary yet?

i'm so stoked can't wait for interviews....👍

I emailed them and asked. And Yes I have turned in my secondary app.

hey i was wondering..i know this is a cheap ass comment..but hey..i gotta knwo this..basically im a tx resident whose a mexican/UT biochem honors major with a 3.7 and a 19 AA..and with a **** load of extracirriculars..dental experience..3 yrs of research with a pub blah blah blah...i was wondering does that mean im automatically in b/c my scores are high for URM? b/c i was thinkin bout retaking the dat b/c i only studied 2.5 weeks for it?
like i thought schools like SA have to take a certain numbers of URMs every yr so if ur numbers are high even for a regular applicant then you can get in easily right?

I would think you are fine unless you have a really low section on the DAT. If everything is around 18 or 19 you should be fine.

Question? Are interviews given out in the order applications are recieved or is it based on a best grades go first process?
