No news yet, but I was reading the old tmdsas thread and people started recieving letters from baylor on the 13th. Hopefully this holds up
 
I got a letter from SA saying they got my app. It's going to be a long summer- and fall.:scared:
 
Old-School do you mind posting your stats?

Anyone else have letters or emails from TX schools. I have an interview with San Antonio, but haven't heard anything else from the other schools. I was hoping that Houston might email me and Baylor might send a letter by now.

Also, has everyone that has an interview at Texas schools posted it on www.predents.com? I was just looking and it only shows three people with interviews at SA. Surely there are more than that who read this because it shows 20+ people on predents site for SA.

I have only recieved an email from Houston (the one that was mentioned in a previus post in this forum). Nothing other than that. Maybe next week will bring something...
 
I just wanted to let everyone know that the new simulation clinic at San Antonio turned out great!

I posted this in another thread then realized that the thread was for last years applicants and that I'd have a better chance of getting responses by re-posting it here:

I have a few questions that if anybody could answer some of them or give any input I'd Greatly appreciate it.

1) Has anybody here come from a different state and become a resident in Texas? If so, how difficult was it and how did you do it? I plan on moving to TX next month, doing a year of pre-reqs then applying for the D-schools- hoping of course that I'll be accepted as a resident.

2) Do the D-schools frown on not having a degree by the time of application? I will have most of my pre-reqs done by the time I apply for D-school, but won't have my degree until the spring of when I would be entering D-school if accepted.

3) Are certain Texas universities frowned upon by D-Schools? I am looking at moving to Brownsville because I was a bit late on the admissions deadlines and saw that it, and a few other UT schools have later deadlines. I've already heard that Bville is pretty crazy, so if anybody has opinions on that as well I'd like to hear it.

I've only received a letter from San Antonio. I had to call Baylor and ask about my application status and check up on it, which is also complete. I called Houston today and they said I should have gotten an email if my application was complete. I double checked my email address and it is correct, but I haven't received emails from anyone except TMDSAS. And the lady at Houston that will give me that information is not there today. This is driving me nuts! There wasn't any type of additional/secondary application that was required for Houston was there? I know everyone received the same application that San Antonio got. Grrrr. 🙁...😡

The only secondary application I filled out was for Baylor.

Did you receive emails from Baylor and Houston? When I called Baylor last Wednesday they said they were sending out letters (not sure if they mean completion letters or interview letters). She specifically said, "you should be receiving a letter", but I still hadn't received any letters. But it is only Monday.
 
I'm a non-traditional and worked full-time and went to school full-time (I don't know that it will matter much). I also used the fresh-start which took out most of my bad grades (from 10 years prior). In TMDSAS I have:
oGPA:3.3
sGPA:3.2
DAT:July 31
I re-did all 4 years at UNT(and I'm done now):
oGPA:3.4
sGPA:3.3
It's pretty average. I need to register w/pre-dent.com.
 
I haven't recieved a letter from sa yet, and my application was sent out with the very first batch a month ago.

I recieved a letter in the mail from Baylor about my app being complete and an email from Houston about the same thing.
 
Ok, got a letter from Baylor over the weekend... pretty confusing. It said they needed three things for my app to be complete and then at the end of the letter it said that my app was complete... So I called today and talked with them.

- First, notification letters are going out to confirm apps are in or if you need other stuff.
- Second, if you get the letter and you have something next to the headings you need that info... otherwise it will say the app is complete and you are in their system.
- Last, she said they are starting to send out invites for interviews this week.

So far I have the following:
San Antonio - Invite for interview Aug 13th
Houston - Nothing
Baylor - Confirmation of apps, but no invite yet

Ex.Curr. 1) 2 yrs working as a dental assistant during school (Now working as a dental technician) 2) 3 years of laboratory research plus 4 publications in the American Journal of Physiology. 3) Served a mission for 2 years in Mexico and now have Spanish fluency (minored in Spanish in my undergrad). 4) Ran track for 4 years during my undergrad and received NCAA All-American honors. 5.) Have a 4 year record of serving in the Cancer Research Center at my school and the Premedical club (carrying out Special Olympic activities). 6) Was a member for 3 years of the Spanish Honor Society (Sigma Delta Pi). 7) Eagle Scout 8) Lots of other stuff...

Any thoughts on my chances? Please write back if you wish to opine.

Just thought i would share...

I got a letter from Baylor last week saying my app was complete- a little confusing, like shawn_wac said. I got a letter from San Antonio on Saturday saying my application was complete, and I got an email last week from UTDB Houston saying it was complete. I guess Houston only sends out emails.

TMDSAS received everything 6/11 and sent out the packets 6/20, but my DAT scores just went out on 7/4!! I took the DAT last July, and I sent the scores to the schools through the ADA on May 7! Crazy! Anyway, I guess they're just really slow. Hope that helps.

My dad was askin gme about htese stats and I was embarassed that I had no idea 🙂
I tried doing a search but could not find anything.
Does anyone know what percentage of interviewees get accepted to the Dental school that they applied at?
Like for instance, of the total applicants, what percentage gets interviewed, and of that pool, what percentage gets accepted?
I know it seems like it would be easy to find, but havent had any luck

Its around 35 to 40% (about 300 at each school) get interviews and around 30% of those who got interviews get accepted so around 1/9.
 
yeah im waiting on letters too i didn't know you had to have a coverletter or w/e I was confused. So my application will be complete like this week I'm hoping. I was wondering like there are a ton of ppl who stink it up on one section of the DAT. I was wondering if you have a high gpa, decent AA, but just a low PAT (15 :scared:) will that still give you the interviews?
 
I think you're just fine daryoush85. From what I understand, dental schools really don't care about the PAT as much as they do your TS. I figure this is why the national averages for enrolled PAT are so much lower then what they are for enrolled DAT. You should be in acceptable shape as long as the rest of your application has strong points. Good luck!
 
I finally got that Baylor letter that said my application was complete. I am still having issues with Houston responding to me though. They don't seem to be as nice as the other schools about telling you whether or not your application is complete. Has anyone heard anything lately for either Baylor or Houston? I think I read somewhere (maybe in this thread) that Baylor is starting to send out interview letters. Is this true? I've also been reading up on Houston. Although the don't seem to have as good a program as the other two.. but its one of those things.. at least when you graduate you are still a dentist right?
 
I spoke with Baylor Monday and they said interview letters are starting to go out.

Did anyone notice that San Antonio started school this week? Wow, that is really early. Houston doesn't start until August 13th and Baylor August 6th.
 
We started school in the sense we have to be there, but everything this week is part of orientation. We are learning how to use our computers right now, and Friday we will get all of our textbooks installed.

Yay! TMDSAS finally sent out my apps today (yea, so i was a little late and submitted it 7/1).

So, I was wondering whether you guys think I have a chance of getting accepted to Baylor or SA?

oGPA: 3.90
sGPA: 3.86
19/19/21
experiences: general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, oral cancer research, and soon ortho

BUT! I'm a Louisiana resident. Do I stand a chance against the hundreds of in-state applicants?
 
I hate to say it but I'm pretty sure Baylor and SA only have 2-3 seats for out of staters each year. Texas DS's is very competitive for out of staters. I guess it really just depends on the stats and diversity of other out of staters applying to the Texas DS's. Who knows, you have a great GPA and sGPA so you might have a shot. Do you not want to go to other DS's outside of Texas?
 
I think there's about 15 seats total for out of state applicants, and I believe most of those seats are given to students without a state sponsored dental school. Like New Mexico.
 
I've applied to several other schools and will apply to LSU once it opens on 9/1. I like Texas DSs because it's close to home and I spent a semester at SMU and could easily see myself living in Dallas. I've heard good things about Baylor and SA. Plus, the tuition is awesome (although i know i shouldn't be worrying about this too much).

I applied for the Baylor Pre-dental Summer Enrichment Program last year, hoping that I would get accepted and get some brownie pts. for when I apply for dental school, BUT, I was rejected 🙁 They said the program's purpose was to strengthen students' applications and that I was "already there." I wonder whether my non-Texan status had more to do with it than my "already there-ness."

I guess I'll find out about my chances in due time... waiting is no fun. I loved the fact that we get our DAT results immediately.
 
do they start processing your apps after you submit, or after they receive your transcripts?

hey have yall noticed that like the dat scores are dropping from last yr b/c i noticed last yr from friends that they were gettin 22,23,24s left and right..and now it's just like gettin a 19-20 is good
 
So even if we're applying to all texas schools, we only need to send tmdsas one copy of our transcript???

They will submit after they receive all of your paperwork (transcripts, signature, fees, photos). They will submit it, however, without LORs. And you can check the status of your documents on the TMDSAS website.
 
hey guys, I just recieved another interview invitation this morning in the mail. This one is to Baylor College of Dentistry scheduled for Wednesday August 29th. So I guess they are sending them out already. Good Luck to everyone that applied there!!

Congrats!!

My mailman doesn't get here until 5 in the afternoon 🙁 So I'll be checking. And the last letter from Baylor took 5 days to get to me (its like a 30 minute drive from my place to Baylor) So this may take a little longer than I hoped. But I'll still be checking 🙂

I've been checking the mail EVERYDAY and find nothing but more education loan mail than i've ever seen before. But.. that's how it goes.

I guess it depends on who you ask. Here on SDN it seems EVERYBODY inevitibly gets nothing less than a 21 AA:bullcrap:. Apparently, only "smart" people write here. I agree with you though. I've been talking to my friends (who I know I can trust) and it does seem that the scores have dropped since last year. According to bloggers, admissions officers are saying that they would expect the averages in both DAT and GPA/sGPA's to go down a tad from last year because last year was a fluke high. Good luck!
 
just sent my application in yesterday and today i mailed my certificate, fees, and 4 awesome photos... I can't send my LOR until i meet with my counselor august 3rd... is that considered late?
 
wtf san antonio's average was a 3.73 and 20 AA..for last yr..are they lying or what?
 
Finally got word that my application was in at SA. That was pretty sweet of them to do over a month later. Whats wrong with this picture. People have already got interviews and sent in their apps a week later me, but I just confirmation that my app is there. I wonder if thats a sign they don't want me.
 
I just got an interview invite today for San Antonio on August 20th!! Woo Hoo!
 
I was checking out some stats and apparently people get enrolled into dental school without even taking the DAT. How is this possible? Not that i'm going to try or anything, but just to know.

TMDSAS could have been waiting on some transcripts or other things. I never got a confirmation that my app was there, but I did get an invite. Don't worry, I'm having the same problem with other schools, they just have a lot of apps going through.
