2009-2010 Grad School Interview Invite Thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
One of my schools says they didn't get my transcripts and that my materials will only be forwarded to the department once they receive them. Does this mean I'm out of the running?! I mailed them myself!!!!! :scared:

It depends. I would recommend contacting the department and asking them if there's anything you can do (e.g., send an unofficial transcript until the official one arrives). You'd be amazed though at how many times I had to resend my transcripts. I think four times for one school was the record. Luckily my undergraduate institution doesn't charge for them (honestly, they charged me plenty to go there in the first place).

I had the same thing happen to me. I emailed them with a copy of my transcript and then had my undergrad institution send the transcript too. They only accepted transcripts directly sent from the undergrad institution. Even though this was all after the deadline, they said I would be ok.

I was surprised at how willing admissions is to work with you when transcripts, GRE scores, etc do not show up on time. I guess I had this idea that they had a zero tolerance policy for late application materials. Granted, some schools do, but in my experience the schools have been awesome with accepting faxed/emailed/letters of rec copies of paperwork if they know that a hard copy is on the way

Today was my first day searching this site... two of my schools are on "the list" and I practically had a breakdown at work because I didn't hear anything from them. On the positive side, I haven't received any formal rejection yet...

Now I'm going to be going crazy at work every day checking this site! eek!

I'm curious about them too, definitely let us know what they report! Thanks!

I will say that Minnesota explicitly says that an interview is not necessary for acceptance, UMN is one of the few schools that does not have a formal invite date... as I have said before... but I will post what else they say

Got an invite to Widener's interview day on January 27th in the mail today. Pretty excited.

From my experience, even though schools may tell you to have your institution send transcriptions directly to them, and want your letter writers to mail them your letter, I have found it best to send everything in one big envelope. Schools don't really care HOW they get your transcripts, letters, and whatever else they ask for, in the end the point is that they got them and it makes their job of piecing your app materials together easier. Also, I have found UPS and FedEx, to be much more reliable than USPS which is worth the extra few bucks to send the package to me. When everything is sent together, the probability of the school messing up your app materials is decreased greatly, even though you may not be following their instructions exactly. You will not be punished in any way for not following their instructions to a T. All of your app materials are there in their hands; that's what matters.

In my experience, sending it UPS was actually cheaper than USPS. ($7 next day delivery with UPS vs. $16 to overnight with USPS). Of course, I suppose this only holds true if, like me, you are a procrastinator and wait til the last day

best of luck, and thanks so much for your hard work on this thread!

🙂

Add more invites this morning!

Updating may be spotty for these next two days (though I'll keep up with it as best I can!), as I will be on the road for interview!

Wish me luck, if you will! :luck:

please let us know if you need help with this.

I'm sure you know this but your own interviews should always come first.

If whoever got the University of Central Florida invite is comfortable PM'ing me their POI, I would be eternally grateful 🙂

Updated! Thanks for all the good luck wishes! I'm off to bed for a full day of interviewing tomorrow!

WOW! good luck mod :luck::luck::luck: you deserve it 🙂 Hope the top choice streak continues with you 🙂

Could the people with interview invites for American and Miami please PM me with their POI's? Thanks!

Hi all,

I would really appreciate a PM from the Emory folks with their POI's.

Thanks!!

I received this from the secretary at UNLV today for the Clinical program.

"Interview day will be held March 5th, and so, typically applicants selected for the first tier will know of interview invitations by this month's end. If you haven't heard anything by February 10th, it is unlikely you'll receive an invite, but decisions are not final until April 1st."

Hmmm... I didn't receive this. Was this email in response to a question you had sent or was it a mass mailing?

Sad day... University of Miami invites were sent out by the admissions chair, so I'm assuming they all went out at once. That's the first of my 10 schools to go up on the list. They were lower on my list, but I had a really good research match (just heard negative things about my POI, which is why it was low), so that makes me nervous for the rest of them.

I applied to 17 clinical PhD programs. Should I be concerned that I haven't been offered an interview yet?!?!?!?!?!?

Don't write yourself off yet...or raise false alarms for everyone else! Someone I work with received a phone interview invite via email from their POI. The POI said that final decisions about interviews would be made next week. I think this is similar to what is posted in the list.

would the people who got invites to penn state, drexel and american mind PMing me their POI? kind of freaking out...thanks!

hypothetical question: If a POI calls you - say on a Friday- is it ok to take the weekend to prepare before calling them back on Monday (esp. if you are working Fri.) or is that considered rude?

i am guessing most would say no, but I tend to live by the rule of thumb to not keep them waiting... I like to come off like I would be prepared if i answered right away, and not keep them waiting, since they assuredly have more people to call...

Just think if you were a POI who would you like more, a student that keeps you waiting or a student that gets back to you right away and is on top of their game? just a thought

would the people who got their invites from American mind PMing me their POI

would the person invited to interview at Stony Brook mind PMing me their POI?

So is Stony Brook still sending invites? It looks like they are having interviews this weekend. And they contacted people almost a month ago. Though I have to say I'm not sure how this is possible, since it looks like the first person to get a interview invite was asked only 3 days after the application deadline. Does anyone have any ideas about this?
Also, for the people who have been contacted by their POI for UVM, if you are willing, I'm interested in knowing who this is? If you feel comfortable would you send me a PM.

Best of Luck to everyone.

Got my first interview invite yesterday!! I was starting to lose all hope--4/15 of my schools are on the list. It's my 'bottom' school, geographically, and the fit with my POI isn't even that great, but I figured I'd apply anyway.

Oh well, hopefully there are more coming my way.

Also, can the people who got interviews at:
UCSB, George Mason, American, and U Mass Boston
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PM me who your POI is???

This is like the ending of a horrible relationship, and I need some closure. 😳

Lets be honest, when it comes to getting in their is no such thing as a bad fit geographically... sometimes we do what we have to do right?

There aren't interview dates on SUNY SB's website so I wouldn't worry about not hearing yet. The faculty members most likely take care of things on their own schedule.

I disagree.
i mean if you restrict yourself because of significant others etc that makes it less convenient and makes for less schools you can apply to, but i mean if you only get into one school are you going to not go simply because of the geography? if so then why apply there to begin with?

Just got an interview invite for Loyola University Chicago's Counseling program! Interviews are on Monday, 2/22. 🙂

It has nothing to do with significant others or anything like that- I applied to schools all over the country. I applied there because the fit was decent, and clinical program top notch, in my opinion. I figured I might as well-if it's the only place I get in, of course I'll go. I just meant that of all the schools I applied to, this is the last one I would choose.

ok direct quote from the admissions secretary at UMN clinical sciences program:

"Dear Justin,

The faculty are reviewing application files at this time. Most admission decisions are made by mid-February.

Susan"

So we have some time, may or may not get a phone call from a faculty member, but at least we should find out stuff then.

J

no i think it's on an individual POI basis.
not that I got a response yet or anything. It just seems way to early to contact everyone for an interview... could be wrong though.

ahk yeah that makes more sense, i had a couple filler schools too, of course those two schools I didnt get invites at soooo I think maybe my attitude showed through lol

Hi all!

I thought there might be more SDN users out there who are only applying to PsyD programs for fall 2010 admission.

If so, there are probably many of us waiting desperately to find out about interviews and, eventually, admission! If those who are willing to share would like to post (or PM me) when schools send out interview invites and admissions offers, I think it would feed the curiosity/desperation some of us (just me?) are feeling as April looms ever closer.

[I realize there are already some PhD/PsyD combined threads for 2009-2010, so if this thread is deemed redundant I understand, just thought it would be nice to streamline.]

Clinical PsyD Programs:

Interview invites sent on (italics) date (earliest)
Admissions decisions sent on RED date (earliest)

Generally, Stony Brook makes everything POI-specific, with individual interview dates and everything. My POI started interviewing long after some other profs in the department (and long after I'd assumed I was out of the running). Unfortunately, this makes the process incredibly hard to predict, but on the bright side, it's probably too early to cross them off the list...try to focus on that last part. :xf:

To everyone freaking out right now:

According to last year's thread, many of the invites don't go out til next week or the week after (and some are even later!). If you haven't heard anything yet, there is no reason to worry! Plus, I think research would show that amount of worry does not siginificantly predict the likelihood of influencing a POI's decision to give you an interview. haha.

A bunch of schools haven't even had their faculty meetings yet to decide interview invitations anyway.

Only 2 of my schools are on the list so far. I have a lot of waiting to go too. WE CAN DO IT!

If it is not too much trouble, will the person who got the Memphis in-person interview please PM me your POI? Thanks! Good luck everyone!

I hope you're right....

Again, American has two interview weekends. The second one is usually 2/20 and the invites for it go out later. So don't write it off just yet.
