2009-2010 Grad School Interview Invite Thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Also, U Tulsa sent out interview invites in December, the interviews are on 1/29.

Good luck everyone! Some of us were in your position this time last year so keep your chins up it only takes one great interview!!!!

I'm available if you have any questions about interviewing/ first year in grad school life questions!!!

do you mind sharing where you interviewed last year?

sure - i didnt get in my first time around, so it was my second year applying (also good to know for everyone not getting invites! sometimes waiting a year is best)
Last year I interviewed at
Arizona
Florida
Florida State
Michigan
Illinois (they don't interview but do have a recruitment weekend)
And, I turned down an interview at Vermont because it was too expensive to fly there.

Hope this helps!

U Arizona? and which Illinois, UIC? did you like them? Both of them are wild cards for me.

U of Arizona, and Illinois at Urbana Champaign
I really liked both programs but it all came down to research fit and generally where I felt I fit in inter-personally. It's not a lie when everyone tells you that your interviews are as much for you to interview the schools as the schools to interview you. Be observant and listen to your feelings when youre at interviews. how you feel at a particular school and with a particular POI will probably make your decision for you. If you feel uncomfortable (more uncomfortable than just interview jitters) it says something about the atmosphere of the program.

Today, I received an official invite for Berkeley (clinical science) via the Academic Coordinator. 🙂

Hi - what should I expect at a recruitment day? Thanks!

I'm confused about why UNC Chapel Hill is on here since their website says:
"Applicants for Fall 2010 Admission:
All interviews for the UNC Clinical Program will be on Friday Feb 12, 2010. We will notify all students invited for an interview on Monday Jan 25, 2010."

I was not expecting to hear from them until next week, so my heart just sunk when I saw it listed. Anyone have any insight?

Jan 25 is the Monday after next... What's the issue here?😕

yay I just got a call *well a couple hours a go* from my POI/Clinical Director from U Nebraska Lincoln inviting me to interview on 2/19-2/21, I will email the details to the mod

Hi there 🙂
Congratulations to all who got invites today. That list on the front page is getting quite big. A quick request for whomever got the latest clark invites - can you please PM me? You can PM me your POI or if you'd like to maintain confidentiality, I can PM mine and you can tell me if it's that POI or not? I would deeply appreciate it! The same for any umass amherst people. Thank you very much!

Congrats to whomever got an A&M invite! Would you mind PMing me your POI??

Thanks! 😀
:luck:

Could the Texas A&M person please PM her or his POI? Even though I know the invite was not from a POI, I would still like to know. Thank you in advance.

Hey everyone,
This may show that our list is neither the be- nor the end-all for all who still wait:yawn:. OSU has been listed for weeks, so I'd all but given up on hearing from them 🙁. Yet, lo' and behold, I got a phone call and email yesterday inviting me to the ball 😀. So stay strong!! Just 'cause your school's on the list doesn't mean all is lost necessarily. And please nobody ask me to PM the POI, 'cause this psycho don't play that:meanie:.

Could the people with A & M invites PM their POI and who sent the email if it wasn't from the POI? Thank you!

hey, congrats, that's really nice to hear. good luck with the interview :luck:
don't they have the interview weekend in about two weeks? I think that's about the minimum time a school should give an applicant to make travel plans and everything... I doubt that schools invite people the week of the interview (unless a lot of people drop out or something) But who knows, maybe I'm wrong 🙂 If I am I'm sure a SDNer will correct me. And thank you, you have given a small glimpse of hope to those of us still waiting to hear from schools.

although I agree it shouldnt be done, it was last year, according to the posts, one person was notified 3 days before the interview... but I am quite sure that person wasnt complaining too much, would be a pleasant surprise really.

Well I guess I'll see you on interview weekend at OSU (if you mean Ohio State that is).

I would greatly appreciate if the person who got a Vanderbilt invite could PM me his/her POI. Thank you!

Another request for whomever received the Vermont interview invite to PM me their POI. Please.

yeah again, 3 POIs are doing phone screenings, they meet next week and will have invites sent out by the end of next week.

So it sounds like from reading all these posts that a lot of schools' invites are sent from the actual faculty member the applicant is interested in working with. Does this mean that invites can come any time now from the schools where POIs have already started sending invites? I'm just getting super worried because there is a large handful of schools I applied to that are on "the list." Not very comforting. Many have just started sending invites from the POIs this week though so maybe I still have a chance in the near future. My invites (only two so far) came in mass emails so I figured that's how they all were. When should we give up hope?

If anyone if comfortable PMing me their POIs for the following clinical psych Ph.D schools, I'd appreciate it.

Florida State
U Miami
Penn State
U Alabama-Tuscaloosa
U Kansas
U North Carolina-Chapel Hill
Vanderbilt

I think a lot of schools are doing it this way this year (for some reason).

Do NOT count yourself out unless you've actually received a formal response about your application.

Oh wow. 😱 Three days before the interview? I agree, a pleasant surprise, but it still sounds very stressful, especially if you live far away from the site.

Hi all!

I thought there might be more SDN users out there who are only applying to PsyD programs for fall 2010 admission.

...

[I realize there are already some PhD/PsyD combined threads for 2009-2010, so if this thread is deemed redundant I understand, just thought it would be nice to streamline.]

MOD NOTE: I combined your thread with the main application thread. Maybe the OP can add your list to the current one. -t4c

Would whoever got the invite from Vanderdilt mind please pming me their POI?

Also, would the Emory folk please pming me their POIs?

I would hugely appreciate it. Congrats to everyone so far. But man...nerves are starting to really kick in!

Just another bit of encouragement here. I agree it would be nice to have at least 2 weeks' notice for interviews, but obviously that doesn't always happen- better late than never, right? Last year when I was interviewing, I got a phone call from my POI fully 2 weeks after I was told "all" the invites were given out, inviting me for a late interview since she had just gotten permission to invite a couple more folks. Although I had to travel 3,000 miles for this interview on about 5 days of notice, I went for it and was glad I did. You never know what can happen.

Has anyone heard anything from Central Michigan?

would the person who got an invite from vanderbilt and the person who got an invite from emory mind pming me the names of their poi's as well?

congratulations on the invites!

I saw a couple folks on here asking about USC and I am going to assume that you are talking about Southern California since that is what I am referencing here. I've been reading this forum for a while and decided it's time for me to share some info too. I actually already interviewed at USC last week. While there my POI told me that this year they decided to have each Prof do their own thing as far as contacting and interviewing their applicants (so I believe that my POI was on the early end of this process since I was contacted in Dec.) They would then meet as a Dept and decide if they still need to have an official interview weekend. Sounds pretty confusing and unorganized to me, so I am still not really sure where I stand. But I hope this helps some of you.

I heard that this year, USC will hold an interview weekend on 01/30. It is 01/16. Does that mean it's time for me to quit entertaining the idea of attending USC? (App deadline was 12/01. I submitted my on-line application around 11/20 and delivered my supplemental materials to grad division in person around 11/23. I got a call from psych dept secretary that my transcripts were missing in mid-December. On 12/23, I delivered a second set of transcripts to dept secretary.)

Yeah, the Ohio State U. interview day appears to be 1/29, so I guess my POI was trying to be nice and send out the invite with 2 weeks (exactly) to spare. OSU is offering travel reimbursements, so it's really in their interest to get the invites out early; too many last minute air fare receipts will cost them dearly. But I'm sure that POIs are people first and they get behind on paperwork, etc. Last minute invites can and do happen!

Congrats to the Washington (Saint Louis) individual! Would you mind PMing me your POI? Thanks a bunch! :luck:

Could whomever got the Vandy invite please, please, PLEASE PM me with the POI? Or, at the very least, could you post on here and say whether they indicated that other POIs hadn't invited yet, that department invites would go out via email, that all invites were already out, or whatever else? This is my second year applying there, and it is my TOP CHOICE in spite of being in another clinical program currently. Any help would be so appreciated!!!!! Thank you much!
