2009-2010 Grad School Interview Invite Thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I wonder if you can get carpal tunnel from compulsive e-mail checking? 🙂

Just curious if has anyone heard from....?

1) Georgia State
2) UAB-Birmingham
3) Louisiana State University
4) University of Washington-Seattle
5) Yale

By the way, what are yall wearing for interviews (that we will all hopefully get)? Black suit? Or is that too boring?

Would the others interviewing at Miami Ohio PM me? I am just curios how people are planning on getting there, staying with students etc.

Thats in oxford right? or London? I forget. either way good times getting there 🙂, you will prolly have to fly into Cincinnati/North Kentucky international airport then take a commuter plane from there. Good luck though!

Question: If the interview is one day (all day) long but you are coming from far away and may need to stay at least one more night, is it rude to stay more than one night with a grad student? Is it typically just a one night thing? I was thinking it might be a good idea to stay more than one night anyway to check out the surrounding city. What are others doing/ have done?

Thx!

Im staying two nights with a grad student at a couple of my interviews, its not rude at all, especially because after the interview day they tend to have the party after and that can be late night. So I am staying like Friday and Saturday night then flying home sunday morning.

A black suit is definitely appropriate 🙂 my current boss coordinated admissions for UMass Amherst for a long time and she suggest that you try to 'stand out' appropriately (i.e. a colored shirt) so that they have something specific to remember you by - i.e. "oh yeah, that girl in the pink shirt".

I'll PM you. Not forensic, though 🙂

*blinks*... There are concentrations? Am I missing something here? Hahahaha. I feel like my mind has turned to mush.

Edit: Oh just looked it up. I was confused, cause I never really focused on that when working on my application. I just focused on who I wanted to work with and they happened to fall under one specialization (which I think is normal). And the Web site reads that the concentrations "...don't accept applicants per se. These concentrations are available to ANY interested doctoral student within the Clinical Psychology program. Interested applicants must apply to the Clinical Psychology Doctoral program." --> I guess that's why I never really thought about it, as I didn't feel as if I was applying to a specialization, just a program. 😀

Anyway, good times.

yeah Fordham is one of a few programs that dont admit to POIs specifically but to a program as a whole, but of course you need to match up. No worries though should be good times.

Hi everyone,

I am brand new to this forum. I now have something new to check besides my gmail all day!

SUNY-Binghamton and UIC are two of my top choices. Would the people who rec'd invites mind PMing me their POIs? If you would prefer I can tell you mine and you can just confirm that they are/aren't your POI.

Thanks!

I'm thinking about the old saying no news is good news?

Seriously! Very quiet... I've been obsessively checking my email because two of my schools sent out invites last year this week. I think they're behind though because no one else seems to have gotten them either.... Sigh...

I received an invite today (number 8), but the program only receives about 15-20 applicants a year, so I wouldn't be surprised if they just invite everyone. Still nice, though!

you applied to what, like 25 programs or something right? Im guessing inevitably yours are going to overlap, I am shocked for myself, applied to 12 schools, 2 of which I didnt submit properly (damned FSU and Alabama Tuscallosa 🙂 ) bring my down to 10. So far I have 6 interviews but one 2 overlapped so i turned one down... and I am afraid if I get anymore I know they too will overlap, thats a crappy feeling too, wanting to make sure you interview at the right places with higher probabilities etc...

oh ps Minnesota doesnt do interviews so so far i am 6/9 with 3 to go 🙂

Justin:

What happened with FSU? I also almost screwed up that application. I thought I had to upload the files to the graduate application and found out about 6 hours before the deadline that they had to be uploaded to the department website.

They made it tricky as to how to submit that application as well. Maybe it is just me 🙁

yeah I know, well that plus apparently they didnt have all my stuff, but sent me an email saying they did, then when I called to ask when my rejection letter was coming they said, "oh gee, your application was never completed its missing blah blah" lol, I was like thanks i dont want to go to your school now anyways! 🙂

Today was my day! One interview invite! A golden ticket! Now if I can just keep out of the chocolate river... :hardy:

What school has only 15-20 applicants? A hidden treasure! 🙂 Congrats!

Interview invite for Oklahoma State PhD Counseling program, received via e-mail on 1/20/2010.

i believe invites come from pois via email or phone, and rejections (at least some of which have already gone out) are posted on the online app status update.

good luck to all!

Just heard back and got an interview at University of Tennessee, Knoxville!

Congrats! I guess that's another school off my list. I'm 0/5 of my schools on the list (probably more after it's updated tonight.

Well, the email was just sent a couple of hours ago, so I wouldn't give up hope yet and actually, the email wasn't mass because they directly addressed me in the letter.

Good luck!

Well then, I guess it's back to waiting for me...

I believe he's looking at school psych programs (or something other than clinical?), or I could be misremembering that information entirely.

I had noticed that, but that's a small number regardless.

Was this for the clinical program? Would you mind PMing me your POI? I was really interested in them. Hopefully they'll continue to send invites.
