2009-2010 Grad School Interview Invite Thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
And why am I still considered a "New Member"? I've been checking this thing a million times a day. When do I get promoted to "Junior Member"? Hahaha! Sorry guys, a little delirious myself with this whole process...

[update] Well, there it is! Woohoooo!

It's about how many comments you've posted, not how long you've been checking it. 😉

DITTO! I don't know how much longer I can take it! My email checking behavior is starting to interfere with my job!

Me, too!! And every day that goes by without any noteworthy e-mails, the more compulsive said behavior becomes. Sigh. :bang:

anybody heard from the Clinical PhD at the Curry School of Education at University of Virginia? I'm holding out for them but I gotta confirm with a few other schools soon...

I applied there, too, and haven't heard anything. Last time I checked the online stuff nothing had changed...

Ok, clearly I'm starting to get impatient!! I just called Northwestern Feinberg and spoke with an admission assistant. She stated that interviews would go out on MONDAY via PHONE CALL. She said that rejections would be notified through the electronic application within the next week. She basically said that if you don't get a call you will know that you weren't invited, so there's no point checking the online app every day. They hold interviews on Feb 26 and March 5.

Monday will be a tough day!! Good luck to all fellow Northwestern Applicants!

you're the best for making that phone call. i have been biting my nails all week waiting for them!

Last year I received their invite WAY after every other school I applied to had already wrapped up their invites and rejections (so I had pretty much given up hope by that time). So no worries yet. I'm hoping that by COB Friday or early next week they'll begin contacting people.

Just received an interview invite via phone from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They are interviewing February 15, 19 and 22nd. 😀

Just thought I'd post something about UW to any of the Canadian people reading this thread, or others who also applied to Canadian schools.

All phone-interviews will be completed the end of next week at which point the committee will reconvene and then extend in-person interviews to a smaller select group of students. My POI told me this today during my phone-interview.

I got an e-mail from my POI at University of Nevada Reno inviting me to an interview!!!

One of my last programs met today to decide who is giving invites. Tomorrow should be a fun waiting game...

Maybe you made a typo, but if not I'd rather you know before your interview so you can potentially avoid a weird look from current students and/or professors.

UAB-Tuscaloosa doesn't exist because it's impossible to be in two places at once. UAB is the University of Alabama at Birmingham (known for it's medical school). UA is in Tuscaloosa and it's the main campus (known for Mark Ingram and National Championships. Football is king in Alabama). Nobody calls it UA-Tuscaloosa (I know it's posted this way on the thread for invite purposes), but when you are in Alabama everyone refers to the school as the University of Alabama or Alabama. The Tuscaloosa part is understood. I couldn't let you fly to the Heart of Dixie without knowing this. Good Luck!

I love you for doing this!! Feinberg is my top choice and I for some reason just decided I would hear back today or tomorrow. You've saved me countless compulsive phone/email checks!

Seriously! I'm in the same boat. I developing some serious OCD with my gmail account. Hopefully if I get into school, I can learn how to treat it Ha!
Perhaps grad schools are providing us with an opportunity to increase our self-understanding, by letting us explore how we cope with a stressful, anxiety-provoking situation? 😀

hm if you are referring to me, I knew this already and am not a fool... was purely accident if I did say UAB, cheers though

If anyone's waiting to hear from SUNY Binghamton's Clinical Psych PhD, I e-mailed my POI today and (within an hour) got a response saying that invitations for the "first round" have gone out, but that is not necessarily the last round of invitations. So, we'll see I guess.

Me, I didn't want to bother emailing though. We could be in the secondary pool. I can't wait until people start making decisions about their schools to give us a go at some of the spots.

That's good. I didn't end up applying there b/c 2 of 3 of my POIs didn't end up being available to take students. And the third one was a stretch.

Has anyone here applied to the Rutgers or Baylor PsyD programs? They're not on the list yet and nobody has posted a word about them (I've been through the entire thread), so I'm beginning to wonder if I'm the only one on here that applied to those schools! 🙂 If I'm not, has anyone gotten information on interview dates or when they'll be sending invites? Thanks for any info! 🙂

I emailed the clinpsyd email inquiring about interview invites and this was the response I received:

"We do not publicize that date for two reasons:

1. If something happens (weather, illness, etc.) to put off having our meeting, you will assume you are not getting an interview if you don't hear by that date.
2. For those that are NOT invited, once they are aware that "the date" has passed, they start calling me. This year, I have 430 applications. We will probably interview 50 people. That means I could have as many as 380 people call me, asking why they weren't interviewed, while I'm trying to frantically prepare for interview day for the 50 who are.

I will tell you we try to give you as much notice as possible, and once interview invitations are sent out, and responses received, all other applications will be processed, and you will be able to see your status online. As long as your status states "pending," you have not been denied.

We request that all candidates keep March 1 open, as it is our only interview day."

430 applications!! 🙁

Good luck!

Haha, 3/3 of my POI's weren't taking students, but I applied to another person anyway (which was a stretch). Apparently my stretch paid off... weird.

What school was that?

Just received an interview invite via email from DCT at WVU. Interview on Feb 26th. Yay🙂

I applied to Teachers College, Rutgers (PhD), Fairleigh Dickinson, and St. Johns. When I called Fairleigh Dickinson, the department admin said that interviews would be the Feb 12th or 13th (if I remember correctly), and that they would notify applicants the week before. I haven't heard anything from TC, Rutgers, or St. Johns. However, I know that in past years, St. Johns sent out invites really late in the game. Hope this was helpful. Has anyone else heard anything?

Sorry, this has been really bothering me as I noticed a few people making this error. It's not Simon "Frasier" it's Simon "FRASER" University 🙂 .

damn that's lucky. and Waterloo only has like 6-7 professors. please send some my way. 🙂

I called the PhD program at Rutgers today. I was told interviews should be sent out this week and that their interview day is February 19th.

Hey Folks! Hope everyone is "hanging in there"! Just wondered if there is anyone else out there who applied to Seattle Pacific.

Also, if anyone wants to chat about the upcoming Clinical Psych La Salle U. interview I'd love it if you PM'd me. 😀

Haha Yeah thanks for reminding me. I kept doing that on my app too. Good thing I caught all of those

I received an invitation to the ASU Counseling PhD program today- just thought I'd share in case anyone is interested.

i agree, i am in the masters program now and didn't know until this morning when i looked it up.

Yeah, in some ways this program is little known. I understand the reason for this is that there has been some internal strife over the years about having both Clinical and Counseling. I also understand the new admin is less squeamish about this.

I'm also currently in Boston, btw.

St. John's usually sends out invitations during the first or second week in feb, Hofstra usually the first

+1!! LOL!! As in Brendan not as in Crane.

P.S Why is the Kent State invitee being so elusive? Anyone?? Please??

Just curious if the two dates posted on "the list" were posted by the same applicant -- first date was email notification and second was snail mail...

Stellablue you're amazing!! I've been waiting all week to hear from them. It is my first choice.

teachers college didn't notify until early february last yr too!

Glad I could help out! I applied to 7 schools, which I know is not a lot, but I have heard NOTHING. This is my first year going through this process, and I didn't expect to be this stressed about it. I have a masters, and a good job that I love, and I didn't think I cared this much!! Guess it's good to learn that now!

Congrats to all who found out today! Please send some good vibes for the rest of us. Cheers!

No. I received the snail mail invite; I've actually had no e-mail contact with IIT. I think it's really odd that they contacted some people through e-mail and some through post, and that they notified so early. interviews aren't until March 5th, so maybe they're not finished deciding.

If you have anymore questions about IIT, feel free to PM me. 🙂
