2009-2010 Grad School Interview Invite Thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't know. I applied to PsyD programs 2 years ago...was accepted. At the end of the summer I'll receive my M.S. and I'm applying to transfer into a PhD program because I have realized how much I want to teach. I applied to 11 schools. I have 1 interview and have been rejected by 3. I haven't heard from the remaining 7 yet. Starting to feel really worried. I'm not sure why I haven't received more response. I have a 4.0, do a lot of research (I'm currently a project leader and have had research experience since undergrad), I'm a Chair for a student organization and a member of a few others, and I've been seeing clients with severe psychopathology for almost a year now. Sometimes it just seems like a lottery. I'm trying to stay positive because some of the schools I haven't heard from just started sending out invites 2 weeks ago.

I just got a phone invite from my POI at Univ of Montana!!!!!

TOTALLY was giving up on my chances! :soexcited:

Hey SunnyCydney

I feel the same way-1 invite and 3 rejections (official) and 1 rejection (Unofficial) and waiting for others. Every year, chances are different. I hope we can get into somewhere we wanted and can do extremely well! Good Luck!

I am also waiting for Community&Prevention, University of Illinois-Chicago
for Counseling psych, University of Miami ( I knew 2 people received invites from school).

Any one knows?

Would those of you who have gotten interviews mind letting me know if you are coming straight from undergrad? I am, and I haven't heard back from anyone yet. I have heard that they don't like to take people right from undergrad and this seems to be the case. My qualifications are very good, but maybe not in comparison to those who have more academic/research experience out of undergrad. Thoughts??

Coming from a master's. Applied to 24 schools. So far, 14 interviews plus 1 acceptance to a school that doesn't interview.

Just got a call from the Counseling Psyc department director for an interview!

But it's a hollow victory; I have a final on the day of the interview, and the backup interview date overlaps another interview I'm gonna be having for Washington State.

Would me doing a phone interview be really bad? I can't decide between Albany, SUNY and WashSU for counseling psyc, but I have to book my flights soon...

Edit: Also straight from undergrad, 2 invites, 1 rejection, still waiting on another 6 schools.

I'm so glad to finally post on this thread
Interview invite from Wright Institute via email...lots of days to choose from

Any chance of taking the final early? Sometimes profs are more flexible for situations like this... just a thought. 🙂

Haha, here's hoping to that! But on top of that, I'm a little more nervous now, because if I do go to this interview, that means that I'll be flying to Washington, staying there from the 3rd to the 6th, then flying immediately from there to Albany with no breaks. I sure hope jet lag doesn't affect my interviews...

Perhaps I'm going crazy due to all this pre-interview stress...

But I could have sworn that someone posted a list of possible questions for applicants to ask their interviewers and it was broken down by POI, DCT, other graduate students, etc. I keep searching for it and can't seem to find it anywhere...

Regarding Duquesne, the university was closed yesterday and today (Tuesday) because of the snow storm. Hopefully this helps (if only a little) with the waiting and anxiety....

Not really -- this was the one school where I was sure my huge hairy feet would give me an advantage over all other applicants. Now I learn they can't handle a little slippery snow and ice...woe is me. I'm going back to my cave

How did you receive rejection?? 10,400 applicants??? is that in all of the graduate school? cannot just be clinical phd program- right?

Yes that has to be for all of their graduate programs - maybe only Arts & Letters specific, though. They use the "apply yourself" webpage so I received an email saying the status was updated. A link appears once you log in to the decision.

Just received an email from ISU for an invite to their interview weekend for their clinical program on March 5th-6th! 🙂

I believe that all of the UM counseling & clinical interview invites have been announced. Sorry. Good luck with the others.

Got my second invite yesterday! A nice bit of info to warm up a snowy day 😎

Has anyone heard anything from Long Island Univ CW Post PsyD? Im waiting and waiting!!!

Besides anxiously awaiting admission decisions, I'm curious what people's day jobs/studies are?

Congratulations! i'm still waiting to hear from them. Was it by e-mail? They might be too expensive and far (NYC up in here) for me but the program seemed really interesting.

I applied straight from undergrad, although I am in my fifth year because I opted to do a second thesis this year. Also, I applied to schools in Canada (mostly Ontario), not the States. I applied to 7 programs, and received interviews at 6. I have yet to hear from the 7th, but suspect that I will not receive an interview as invites have already gone out.

Invited for a phone interview later this week! Email was from POI.

Do you know if the phone interview is done as a preliminary screening before an in-person invite is extended, or if Uvic is only doing phone interviews?

........Bigfoot?.........

Joking, just joking 🙂

On a similar note, I'm not sure is anyone is waiting on info from schools in/nearby DC, but most of them have been closed since around fri/sat. Personally, I know the GWU has been officially closed since Monday and we're gonna be closed tomorrow too.

This of course makes me happy because its snow day #3 for me! But I feel for anyone trying to get info from schools in the DC area.

Congrats to those who have gotten interviews for Nova's PsyD program. I am wondering if the March 8th interview date was the only day that was offered and if not, what were your other choices. Thanks

I heard a couple weeks ago that there will be two interview dates for NSU: 3/8 and 3/15. They invited me for 3/8 and didn't offer me any other day, but I didn't ask either. Hope that helps!

I got a letter a few days after my invite and in that letter, there was a flyer for a pre-interview social on the 14th. Based on that, I'd guess that's still the case dr squared.

Email from the DCT today: "Interviews will be held between 9 and 1 and 1 and 4 on Monday, March 1 and Tuesday, March 2 in Bent Hall, Rm. 277."

I believe interview invites should be going out soon if they haven't gone out already. I'm a current student so feel free to PM me any questions you may have about the program.
