2009-2010 Grad School Interview Invite Thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am new to this forum, and was wondering if anyone has heard anything from U Virginia? or when we a all might be hearing something regarding interview invites?

Also, did anyone interview at Temple, who has already heard something back in terms of acceptance or rejection?

Thanks! 😉

I think many of us have been wondering about this. If anybody has some inside info, please share.

Temple said it would be 3 weeks, so I think we can expect to hear around the 22nd or so at the earliest. 🙂

Has any one heard when U of Georgia is supposed to send out acceptance/rejection notices?

Congrats on your interview! I actually don't think the interviews are ranked as you suggested, based on the fact that the first round of Widener invites went out a full week before the application deadline. So I think (I could be totally wrong) that all of the groups they invite are equally qualified, and it's all just a matter of when they actually look at your application that determines when you get an interview. Here's hoping we both get in!
I agree--I don't think that you can interpret which interview day you're invited for as an indication of qualification. I'm at Widener now, and our classmates are from all of the interview days.

hi! would people who interviewed at temple mind sharing who you interviewed with and what day you were there? thanks again!

would whoever got the Cincinnati invite mind PMing me their POI?

I have a quick question and I was wondering if anyone had some advice for me. I have an interview to the same school that my boyfriend is going to next year and I really want to go to this school. During the interview should I mention that my boyfriend will be attending the school or should I leave that information out? If anyone has any advice I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

I wouldn't force it into the conversation, but if they ask you about how you feel about the city, you can slip it in. I would refer to him as your fiance, however, because it tends to sound a bit more serious. I'm sure others will disagree, but those are my 2 cents.

Just got an interview invite from York Adult Clinical via phone call from POI 😀

I suggest leave it out. You don't want them thinking you are interested for any reason other than its a good fit for you academically. It also sort of reflects an un-seriousness on your part basing your decision to attend the school on that fact (not saying you are not serious, not meant to offend and speaking objectively. obviously you are very bright), some people just tend to take these things a certain way. It would be super awesome if you got in though, good luck!!

They started the post-interview ones around 2/1. Check the rejection & acceptance threads. The ones without an interview were earlier I think.

One person replied, but if anyone has heard back from GMU, please please please PM me!!! It is my top school and I am really hoping that either my POI hasn't let anyone know yet (unlikely) or that I am next in line to be offered a spot if someone turns down an acceptance.

Ditto. Also, if he isn't your fiance, please don't say that he is. I know another poster suggested that to you. But, if he isn't your fiance, you would be lying. And, if it is found out that you are lying about something small, people often will assume that you're willing to lie about something big.

Your stats (GRE, GPA, etc.) have to speak for themselves.
And, you better have written a killer SOP.

Good luck!!!

Does this school utilize POIs? If so, maybe you could look up your POI's research. Then, if you are trying to access a book chapter or article, and you cannot find it, you could always contact the POI stating that you're an applicant to his or her program, and you were wondering if they could email you the article (book chapter) that you are interested in reading. . .

That would show your interest in the program without seeming desperate or impatient.

what school is this?? is it NYU? because I'm also waiting to hear from them and not sure if they do interviews either!

I know SFU is sending acceptance/rejection via snail mail, but has anyone who interviewed received theirs yet? Suspense is killing me!!!!

Ditto. Lying is a bad idea. However, it's totally appropriate to call him your partner or SO or something. I lot of people say that around here because it's gender-neutral and not indicative of marital status (same-sex marriage is outlawed in my state). It's an honest (and PC) to indicate that you're in a relationship without opening the door for someone to judge the seriousness of the relationship.

For anyone else who is going to UF's interview weekend next weekend: I was told last night (by someone who has interviewed at UF twice) that there are a number of social events that weekend (dinners, parties, etc.). The only one that I know of is the BBQ on Saturday morning, so I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't left out of the loop on an e-mail or something that specified other things taking place that weekend. Thanks!

They already did last week. (Look at the acceptance and rejection threads). If you haven't heard, most likely you were waitlisted. I didn't hear so I e-mailed my POI directly and I had been waitlisted. And other people I met at the interview day who also didn't hear one way or another e-mailed and got the same waitlisted response.

Congrats, :xf:

I guess they finished inviting students already because they sent mass e-mail. I wanted to go TC but because I did not mention the name of POI. Maybe it is hard to get a chance to receive an interview without mentioning POI in SOP. 🙁

Could anyone who got an invite at VCU counseling say if they were contacted by the POI or the someone else? I've been waiting to hear from them as well. And what's with the two days for interview? Is it just one day with two options or a two day interview? Thanks!

I was contacted by POI via phone call on Feb 5. This is one day interview with two options. Good luck. I think this year is tough for everybody including me because there are more people who have higher credentials than every before.:scared:

Was that in an email? I briefly looked through the ones they've sent. I haven't heard yet about who I'm staying with. Have any of you? Do you know what time the Thursday dinner is?

I am kind of relieved that you seem just as clueless as me  I was beginning to feel a bit dejected!

+1

I wouldn't mention him unless it comes up naturally, i.e in a social context when people are talking about sig. others.

Usually it is VERY difficult to get an interview without mentioning a POI, for pretty much any school.

How do you know? I am interviewing there also and never heard anything other than the bbq on saturday?

What does POI stand for on this board? Professor/person of interest? I keep seeing it mentioned but don't know 😏

Did anyone get an interview from the clinical neuro track at uvic? If so, can you please PM me with your POI or I can say mine and you can say yes or no.

Thank you in advance!

Got an invite for St Louis University today! It was an email from the Administrative Assistant.
😀😀😀

So I e-mailed all of my POIs about where they were in the interview process. I had e-mailed all of them prior to applying to ask about whether they were accepting a student, etc.... I heard back from the one at SDSU/UCSD JDP Neuro track and he let me know that he didn't get funding this year like he thought he would and he wasn't accepting a student in the end. He also mentioned that he was impressed with my app and letters and to stay in contact for next years round of apps... Anyway, I'm so relieved that it wasn't a flat out rejection and I'm so glad I decided to get in contact with them and get the scoop. No more stressing about who's still reviewing over my app 😀😀😀😀😀

Did I miss something? What about Pepperdine??

True, but I was hoping to have some other options as well...

Does anyone know if UIC is finished extending interview invitations for their Community-Prevention program?

Thanks!

just rcvd mass email invite - two weeks of "group interviews"

anyone else going to be there?
want to me pm me so we can commiserate? what is the deal with these group interviews?

Still waiting on both LIU's. Those are the last two programs I did not hear from. Did anyone hear from them yet?

To those of you who applied to U. Georgia (and everyone else, really):

I didn't apply there, but one of my advisors has close contact with the psych dep't there and he knows students/profs there. He told me that each professor had ONE chance to invite ONE student. So if the prof asks student A and A declines, the prof is not allowed to ask Student B or C.

This is preposterous, but it is what he told me. That leaves me to think that there would not be a waitlist? Or maybe the school is putting you on one, but it doesn't really exist. I don't know, but one of my friends (who also works with the same advisor as me) applied there and was rejected, not waitlisted, which fits with what my professor told me.

Who knows if any other programs are doing this...! Just wanted to throw that out there for everyone...especially Georgia applicants

Not to scare you but I have heard horror stories of these "group interviews," GRANTED they were from people who are more of the introvert type. My advice for those interviews (I have also done the group interview a time or two) is NOT to try and plan for your answers, sit up straight, carry yourself with confidence, and make yourself stand out. Most of the time it is not actually your responses to the questions they are reviewing (because they will purposely ask you questions that you will not be able to answer directly) but more about how well you can carry yourself under that much pressure. Relax, deep breaths, and rock it! It is not about making friends so show that you have a competitive side when you are in the group. Hope that helps more than it scares you!
