For those who are wondering, i called the office, they said see attached is perfectly acceptable. So we dont need to worry 🙂

I had 2 paragraphs for the essays I did (the city one and why SUNY). They both had like one intro sentence and one conclusion sentence, so I guess like a mini-essay.

I am not a NY resident so I have to answer the supplement question of if I have a specific reason for attending SUNY Downstate. My fiance is a student at Mt. Sinai medical school so this is a reason among many others of why I'm interested in attending medical school in NYC. Some people have told me however that I should not mention him as it will hurt my chances...what should I do?

thats ridiculous that it will hurt your chances. If you want to put it do so, if you are paranoid then dont. Either way its not going to really help or hurt. Fiancee doesnt mean anything really. Now husband/wife/parents/ etc etc those are meaningful family connections. Also you dont have to fill out the specific reason because you are not a NY resident, its optional. Also in the question prompt they said "significant other." If the school writes it in the question its not going to hurt you for listing SO as a reason.


Personally I would write that your fiancee lives there. If you are paranoid that they will think you want to go to mt sinai only, just leave that part out and say he attends school in the NY area or something.

you mean lor? LORs are sent into amcas for this school. If you mean the secondary the address is listed on teh secondary where to mail it.

Ok thanks I figured amcas would just send it to them (i was talking about lor's). I was just a little thrown off with how the email says it because it made it seem like they wanted them mailed:

so, i've graduated from college and am currently employed, but i really don't want to get a letter of rec from my supervisor (i work a major retail chain and most of my supervisors are *****s, seriously). do you think they'll accept what i have: 1 from chem classroom professor who i also did research with, 1 from psych research supervisor, 1 from academic advisor?

yes, send them directly to AMCAS.

yes you need to do nothing extra. As for the LORs always best to call, you never know what exceptions they may make for each individual student.

Thanks everyone for answering this simple question....

Anyways... I called the office and asked them if the 2 letter requirement is a strict limit, and the lady told me there is no limit for the number of letters included in a committee packet, and for individual letters, we could send 3 up to 4 letters, but no more than 4. In case anyone else was wondering like I was

They just got my AMCAS application. Gosh, they are so slow. Also, they require a proof of citizenship? They didn't require you to attach any proof to your secondary other than a check, right? I'm not remembering too clearly right now.

I dont remember any req like that, why did they ask u or something? I mean it says we were born in the US on the app...i hope they dont want a birth certificate...i dont have that. I sent it out on 7/2...did they email u that they got it/?

On their status site: Proof of Citizenship (Photocopy of Passport or Birth Certificate

I called and askeed yesterday, they said you need to send in proof of citizenship no matter what. I dont even have that box (mines like kokos) but I sent it anyways. I sent my letters on 7/2...but im still not marked as complete...i bet tehy got lost-_-

i sent a copy of my birth certificate in a normal envelope. Though it made me uncomfortable doing so 🙁.

Oh also make sure you send a paper with it, with your full name and amcas id to make it easy for them..i know the name seems redundant but , schools seem to want that with everything for ease.
