It turns out I actually did receive it. It was the FedEx packet that I missed cuz no one was home lol 😳

So obv. there will be a period round xmas where they will not be reviewing files....... which will make my wait even longer, being that I interviewed on Nov 24. Eugh. 👎

Hmmm...good question. I know the students are off from the 23rd to jan. 4th...although i dont know if admissions takes a longer break. I know we are supposed to start training to be tour guides/shadowees on jan 20th, but i would think admissions fires up again before that. It should be a week or two but im taking a shot in the dark.
I know its a frustrating wait. Hang in there!

So it seems like its about a 3 or 4 week delay between decisions and interviews? I guess I'm going to fall into the x-mas break period and not hear anything until late January.
I just got a letter saying my file was reviewed post interview but that I have been put on hold until the spring...is that the same as being waitlisted?

Congrats!! As for NYMC, it depends on where you stand in the admissions process right now and how you think NYMC compares to Downstate. I withdrew so you know what I would say 😉
Frustrating as this is, no a hold is not a waitlist...in fact theres a chance that you can be waitlisted after being put on hold and re-reviewed🙁
Yea it kinda sux about the lull in activity during this time of year...as hard as it sounds, I would just take the time to relax and not worry about the apps at all...y'all are stressing about them 24/7 so at least now you can take some time to yourself. Go enjoy your winter break now cos when you get here, you only get 10 days muahahahaha....

I interviewed on 10/28 and still haven't heard anything. I e-mailed the admissions office yesterday and they told me they sent me something last week and that if I don't receive it by the end of this week, I should call them and they will overnight it to me. Not sure why it's taking so long 🙁
That sounds like a rejection letter b/c I thought they said that they overnight mail acceptances?
they said that as may 15 approaches they start overnighting letters. don't be a dick and say it sounds like a rejection because it doesn't, it could just as well be an acceptance.

Thats annoying, the post office isnt always the most reliable about delivering letters on time - or at all.
And with the 2 weeks they give you to submit a deposit (am I correct about that) a delayed letter can mean a lost opportunity.

Agreed, I think that they really try to work with you make sure you get a deposit in if you'd like to hold your spot. In my experience, the assumption is that OF COURSE you want to hold it, unless they hear otherwise from you in writing. I was really nervous about this too! 🙂

Ooooooh no...there are plenty of spots left...I just signed up to be a tour guide and was told ill be working through april.
My application was complete in early October and I have not heard anything yet. Is that a good or bad thing (generally speaking)?
I called them and they said no decision has been made yet and that they'll let me know.
I am just wondering if this is a good thing? Perhaps I will get an interview?

I'd love to, but I actually don't start til feb. If/when you are accepted, I might be someone you shadow, though.
you should ook at their policy on the MCAT, some take the highest, some take the most recent. Also, have you done anything to improve your application?
The MCAT scores that I had last time around is still the highest. I don't think I did much to improve my application ever since. Should I be expecting a rejection post-interview?

i dont think i would go in with that mindset. they obviously chose you to interview because they are entertaining the idea of accepting you. so, be confident and rock the interview and hopefully you will get accepted.
What do you think happened last cycle that you were rejected post interview? do you have any ideas?
Mostly because of my subpar MCAT scores, but this cycle I got an even lower ones. This school is, by far, my top choice, I certainly hope that I will get in.

If you go in thinking this, you WILL get rejected. Positive attitude is the name of the game. Physicians must be positive. They do actually make a big deal about this (and I'm being tested on it tomorrow 😛). Go in and be confident (not arrogant!). Be friendly and upbeat and completely forget about last year's rejection. You got an interview 2x in a row now, which means that Downstate believes that you are academically capable of handling the incredible workload. They just want to see who you are now. Show them.
