Tech really surprised me! Initially I was kind of scared of small town Lubbock, because I've lived so much of my life in Houston, but everyone was SO friendly 😍

I think the interview day went well... I was asked some good questions and made to justify my opinions on things, which is nice. I like some intellectual "debate"!

Currently, Tech is #2 on my list, though only for the sake of my husband needing/wanting a bigger airport than Lubbock's, but I'm happy at either UTMB or Tech when it boils down to it. The curriculum style is right up my alley and doesn't seem too dissimilar from UTMB 🙂

How do you think your interview day went? :luck: It was really great talking to you too, and best of luck with Tech! I'm sure your healthcare experience will be extremely beneficial to you!!

I had two wonderful interviews with Dr. Eisenbaum and Dr Dickerson. or maybe i just want to belief they were wonderful lol.lol. it was more a conservation abt my life experiences than anything else. infact Dr. Dickerson and I started talking about his kids/his grand children which i think was awesome. Tell ure hussy lubbock has an "International Airport" lol. He should be able to get a flight to anywhere. my uncle also interviewed at UTMB. he lives in houston so i hope it all works out for u both.

... and waiting, and waiting, and waiting ... it has gotten easier the longer the wait gets though. i bet i'll become neurotic again the closer it gets to Feb. 1st.
 
Hey y'all, I just wanted to let those interested or unsure about Tech to know that our school will for sure have video-recorded lectures starting next year. I'm not sure if this was mentioned during interview day or not, but I just confirmed it today with Dr. Williams, the guy in charge of our curriculum. He said they've purchased the equipment and will get it up and running over the summer. (FYI, we currently have audio-recorded lectures.)

I know that was one thing I was always wanting to know about when I was interviewing myself, since it's so wonderful to be able to listen to dull lecturers at 2x speed and fast forward past all the unimportant questions from students. So, yeah, we'll have that starting next year and just wanted to spread the info, in case y'all didn't know. Good luck everyone!

I wish there were something awesome and exciting to update on... 😳 I'd love to see this thread bursting at the seems with good news and updates, ESPECIALLY if some of it were my good news... 🙄

maybe you meant day-after-tomorrow? Tech interviews are really laid back, so don't stress over them. just review your application so you don't forget anything you wrote, etc. and you'll be fine!!! good luck!!!! :luck: :xf: :luck:

does any one know if they will be sending anymore pre-match offers or this is it? i really don't want to call the office but am seriously thinking about that now since i don['t hear anyone talking about a possible date. Gosshhhhh i love this school. i only wish linda prado and Dr. Peck can monitor this and give me an acceptance.😀

I think you should call 😉 You can call anonymously anyway, so it isn't a big deal I wouldn't think. And worst case, they just think you're really interested, which is true anyway!

A close family friend of mine got her acceptance letter yesterday......this must mean they send out a batch yesterday and my name was not there. 🙁

Match here we come......
 
🙁well, here we go. i could not resist the temptation, i just had to call that office. What they told me was that they are still offering pre-match till the 31st. aparently it is not like a big batch or big wave of acceptances, they just send as they please. That family friend interviewed on the dec. 11th and got her acceptance yesterday the 16th. The last interview will be tomorrow dec 18th. hope that is some news 🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁😕😕😕

i'll rather keep that confidential till the admission process is over. i want to guess if you were deem worthy of an interview that means your stats should be okay to handle their medical school load. besides that, goodluck to you too in the process.

you can actually leave immediately after your second interview. the student panel is wonderful but not mandatory. just relax, you will have alot of fun at Tech coz everyone you meet even the janitor is very friendly ( thats a good representation of the city lubbock in general.) am sure u will do fine since this is not ure first interview.

Congrats on the interview! Hope it went well and you enjoyed Tech. I thought about coming up to school today, but figured I'd been there enough for the past 5 months. Hope everyone on here gets good news before Christmas! Have a happy holidays.
 
are there anymore pre-match offers coming or do i have to wait to til the real match day.

this school is so awesome. feel in love with it during my interview and i really want that dna statue. 🙂

there may be more coming over the next ten days, but no one can really say for sure... If you can just hold out a teency bit longer, the unknown game will be over for about a month!!! :luck:

i called today
they said it can come anytime from now till the 31st...so we never know!

i really liked the school! a prematch would be an awesome x-mas present!

So, I've just been wondering... If the admissions office is off for the holidays, who is going to be sending out emails? I thought most offices were out until January 4th, and I would rather not worry about it if it's for sure not happening. Anyone think they come back to work between Christmas and New Year's?
 
i interviewed on the 18th of december
does anyone know if it is possible to prematch or if the prematches were sent out?
technically we have 3 days left to prematch, but i wonder how likely it is for anything to happen
 
it is dec 31st and nothing yet. i guess we are all going to the match with no if's or buts. Texas Tech here i come, wether u like it or not lo.lol. i love this school man.👍😀
 
No worries everyone, I got good news for MD-only applicants! (i'm not sure if anyone here was applying MD/PhD, but if you were, they picked their 3 candidates already and probably won't be sending out any more offers)

Although I didn't get in the joint degree program at TTU, they insisted that I not worry because spots were still available for MD applicants. They also mentioned they would have a alternate list made by early February. And to end on a good note, I believe TTU sends out offers well into August ! 👍

does anybody remember from interview day how tech does grades. i remember it was p/f but are there individual rankings and GPA's?

we DO NOT have rankings or number grades.

we DO have categorical designations that usually approximate:
Honors: >91%
High Pass: 87-91%
Pass: 75-87%
Marginal Pass: 70-75%
Fail: <70%

(ie the categorical designations DO NOT the same as letter grades... in theory, the system was set up so that its pretty to pass, and is what most people do, but that it's pretty difficult to honor... however our particular class as a whole has done really well and so our grade distribution is pretty greatly skewed to the higher grades... so take that as you will.😎)

I am having a hard time deciding between TTU and UTMB, UTMB ranks higher nationally but I really like TTU campus. Help me decide, Jan. 15 IS the date I must narrow down to one. Thanks,:scared:

I was having a hard time deciding between schools too. From all the advice I have received, the rankings are really subjective. Neither school is a 'top 20' so you should really go where you think you will be more happy. I have nothing but positive experiences with Tech. You should go to the allopathic school thread and talk to current students there. They were more than helpful in helping me with my dilemma.
 
So when I interviewed at Tech, a 2nd year stated that if interviewed you have a 67% chance of getting an acceptance (quality of interview and application aside, of course). Can anyone verify this? It seems a little to high to be true. I was trying to figure it out myself but cant find the total number of offers given.

whoops, too high to be true.
 
As much as I would like that to be true ... it's probably the remaining 33%, that get in.
 
Hello everyone, this is my own logic about the stats even though it might be incorrect. Tech interviews abt 700 applicants for a total of 140spots. which makes an exact 20% chance of an acceptance in you get an interview. The other good news is out of the 700 students that were interviewd by Tech 450-550 of them were interviewd by another texas medical school or out of state schools. a majority of them even after pre-match or match offers will choose not to come to Tech for whatever reason with the first being the location. Because of all the blah blah blah, maybe about 350 interviewers go into a neck to neck competition for the 140 spots making the estimated interview to acceptance rate about 40%.
just my 2cents.🙂
