What exactly is a silent rejection? People talk about it all the time. I'm not sure I quite understand.

it's where the school doesn't tell you anything. no interview invite, no "on hold," no rejection letter... just "we're going to reject you by ignoring you."

IMO, this happens far less frequently than people on SDN think. apps are reviewed and re-reviewed; just because you don't get an invite during the first round doesn't mean you won't get one at all. i am proof-- i've gotten 3 invites after people on SDN had suggested that i, and those complete on the same date, had been "passed over."

Hey guys,

I was complete on 8/5/09 and have been Under Review since. They say 4-6 weeks. Should I call or just wait?

are you posting this in every school thread for the ones you applied to?

If you don't mind me asking, when were you complete and when did you get the invites (and for which schools)?

I've been complete about 3-4 weeks at most of my schools and they've all been incredibly silent. Not a single word other than the "your file is complete" email.

3-4 weeks? give me a freaking break!

i was complete in mid-late july for most of my schools, except for columbia, harvard, and UVM. i recently got invites at sinai, cornell, and NYU *after* people who had been complete in august or later.

if you were complete sometime in september, you've got a lot of people in front of you, buddy. sit back and relax.

Yeah, I know, I know. It's my own fault for not having completed my apps sooner. I wanted to wait till my MCAT scores were out. Bad idea obviously.

I guess I won't be hearing back from anyone for a couple more weeks at least. I just hope I haven't jeopardized my application too much by applying around September first week. What do you guys think? Too late?

Oh by the way, congratulations on Cornell and NYU. I don't know much about Sinai but the other two are pretty selective. You must be a strong applicant. Good luck on your interviews. What other places did you apply to? Been to any other interviews yet?

I was complete in early September as well. Would have been sooner but I also wanted to wait for MCAT scores to be released. Looks like we have some waiting to do...

As an aside, is anyone else applying to the Maine program?

see that mdapps link under my avatar? 😉

but thanks 🙂

Wow I didn't even know there was this enlightening thing called MDapps. I'm not on this forum (or any other) much.

I don't think I really like this MDapps things. Everyone is such a great applicant! Makes you kinda insecure, doesn't it? Anyone else get that feeling or is it just me?

I had an interview here on 9/17. Do you guys think I'll get my decision on the Oct. 15th release date?

they probably told you that at your interview date - i was just there on oct 6, but because their admissions committee only meets once a month, our day of interviewees won't hear until mid-november.

it seemed like tufts wanted to avoid giving definite decision dates, so it's doubtful they'd commit up front to giving you an october 15 decision. fingers crossed, though! :xf:

I interviewed in early September and I am pretty sure they said we would know on the 15th/16th. I know in the past that they do give out acceptances on the 15th by phonecall. Not sure if they will this year but I really hope for some good news. I know that there is a high rate of acceptance post interview but that there is a lot of waitlist movement. Anyone know stats on who is accepted outright?

Dear phoenixsuns:

I am writing to request that you return to your online secondary application and update your contact information, especially your mailing address.

We expect to be mailing letters late next week to all applicants who interviewed with us in September.

Please be sure your mailing address is the correct address for us to use for a letter sent at this time. Also, please be sure the address is formatted appropriately for use in correspondence (appropriate upper and lower case, etc.).

Please note:

1) We use the contact info in your online secondary application for all email and hard mail correspondence.

2) You may update your contact info at any time in your online secondary application.

3) AMCAS updates do not automatically overwrite the contact info in your online secondary application.

Thank you.

Thomas M. Slavin
Director of Admissions
Tufts-USM

i guess we find out Oct. 15th?

^ got the same email. I am HOPING that the letter reaches my place by the 15th, but I'm anticipating having to wait until the 19th to hear any news.

gl to you! :luck:

Same here, just got the email today. Hopefully it'll get to me by the 16th, because I don't get mail on Saturday, and waiting until Monday would just suck.

I wonder this will be a fateful Friday for anybody... At some point Tufts needs to start inviting for more interviews....

Tufts tends to be cautious with invites since they accept 50+% of interviewees.

Since Tufts has the highest tuition for a medical school has anyone else thought about this? How has it impacted your view about Tufts? I'm trying to put it in the back of my mind since ill be there this upcoming week but at one point youve got to think about it. Living in Boston isnt exactly affordable. Maybe they give out alot in fin. aid?

actually they give out not-so-much financial aid 🙁 the most they award is a quarter to half tuition need-based scholarship, i believe.

their financial aid presentation was kind of scary....like the fin. aid officer talked a bit about how buying coffee four days a week will add up to over $9,000 in loan repayments with interest.

i was talking to a friend at BU though, and he said that most people don't really change their habits. yeah it costs a lot, and i'm obviously not saying its okay to be financially irresponsible, but he basically said you qualify for all the loans you need, and it's not very hard to pay it off once you become a working doctor. thought i'd just put that out there so people aren't scared about the finances...

hey egul - Yeah I'm an applicant for the Maine program. Haven't seen a lot of us here in this forum though. Are you from Maine? My interview is actually in 2 days- fingers crossed!

Does anyone remember whether those who interviewed in September will be getting status emails on Oct. 15 in addition to a letter in the mail?

Good luck with the interview!

I'm a Maine resident currently living in New York. But I grew up in Maine (right in Portland, actually) and my family still lives there. Hopefully I get an interview invite soon...:xf:

Last year's acceptance thread says its phone/e-mail.

Does it say this on your status page when you log into the secondary?? Mine still says "Application Complete." Is there another status page I need to go to for what's happening with my application? Thanks!

Really anxious. I also just got waitlisted from the other school I knew I'd hear from tomorrow (SUNY Buffalo), so I really hope I get accepted here.

Woohoo just got called also!!!!
