Wow, what a relief. Got the call on Friday.

Reapplicant, took MCAT a couple times, had to take post grad classes, 2 C's in premed requirements freshman year-finally got an acceptance!

Got the call on Friday. I'm so happy right now.

The money seems daunting, but all of it will be available in loans, and taking out loans for medical school don't really affect your standard of living anytime down the line, so it really doesn't matter.

Oh 315k sure does, if you're not in one of the very highly paid specialties, at least. But if standard of living isn't a very big issue then it doesn't really matter.

got the call on thursday!!!!! interviewed in mid-september

Anyone know how long their turn-around time is? I interviewed in early October, when do you think I can expect to hear?

I also interviewed in early october, and they told us we'd hear mid-november.

Crap, my computer spazzed. Sorry 🙂

At least you can be 9x as sure that you will hear in mid november.

I'm not sure what all the hoopla is about the cost. Every private school I applied to costs more than $40k per year. Even quality public schools (eg UCSF) will cost upwards of $25K per year. It sucks, but that's the way it is. Cost of living is high in boston because it's a sweet spot to live. It's good to plan ahead and be wary of debt, but complaining about the cost of medical school for the next four years (or the rest of your life) isn't going to change anything and it will annoy/depress everyone around you. That said, if you get into a public school that's much cheaper and gives a quality education, go for it!

Has anyone received an interview invite from Tufts since 9/23? Its been awfully quiet on that front in the past month.

Ok so I called the admissions office and they said my application has been reviewed once but no decision has been made yet. So then I asked her if this meant I was on some sort of hold and again she answered "no decision has been made yet".

Doesn't no decision made yet = hold? Whatever, it's not like they're gonna invite me for an interview so why don't they just send me a rejection letter already so I can focus on ther things!

In my conversation with the Admissions Office, I received the same information. What she told me, however, is that the AdCom still has my application under review, which may be similar to your situation. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Yet.

But you're not paying it all back at once. You're only paying a few hundred a month during residency and 5X that after. Even in primary care, it's not going to make much of a difference in what you can/can't afford.

With interest, it'll be 500k by the time you have to pay it back. If you're also starting a family, buying a car and a home, then you can easily be 700k+ dollars in debt with interest. It'll be a LONG time before you can pay it off with a 120k or so a year after-tax salary a primary care physician makes. 7.x% interest really adds up.

There is a 4-page thread about Tufts' tuition. You guys might want to take it there and allow other applicants interested in the secondary/interview process to use this thread.

I am interviewing at Tufts on Nov 3 and am trying to make plans for accomodations. Anyone have any advice on where to stay out of the hotels they listed? Im OOS (as in West) so saving money helps after my $300 flight but I still want to be pretty close so I don't have to worry too much about getting there on time.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
THANKS!

There is the W hotel right next to the school but it may be pricey. Have you looked into student hosting? This is the info about student hosting from Tufts:

Student Hosting Program
A number of current TUSM students have volunteered to host applicants during their visit to our school. Please contact Emily Condon, Associate Director of Admissions, at [email protected] to receive further information regarding Student Hosts.

Also Boston is pretty small and the train stops right next to the school. I stayed at a friends in Salem and commuted to my interview in less than an hour using the train.

I go to school in Boston, so if you end up without a place to stay, you can crash in my residence hall 🙂 PM me if you need to!

And also - Come on, Tufts! Invite some more people, already.

Also, the Doubletree Downtown Boston has a New England Medical Center rate of $109.00/night. Far cheaper than the $232.00/night or so it usually costs.

i stayed at the doubletree and told them i was interviewing with tufts. they gave me a $89.00 rate for that night. so that's actually a pretty cheap option (relatively). it's a pretty nice hotel, and right off the red line. they also give you two fresh baked chocolate chip cookies when you check in 😀

Thats strange, when I was there, I called all the hotels and all of them said no such option as discount for tufts is available....

Congratulations to everyone who has gotten in! Tufts is a great school and I hope you will all consider coming here.

I am an M'13 at Tufts, so if anyone has any questions about the school, living in Boston, or tuition (the 315K that has been thrown around is ill-informed given some of the aid that is given) feel free to PM me.

I spoke to another school's admissions office about this. Basically it means that they want to interview you, but they have other people in line before you.. They put people in certain ranked groups, and they work their way through those groups. If they still have spaces by the time they reach your group, you will get an invite. Remember, most schools interview till March, so there is still a lot of time left.

That's interesting. So basically they have better applicants but they don't quite think of me as rejectable?

In that case would my situation right now be different if I'd applied earlier? Seriously, why didn't I just send the damn applications early! What was I thinking?

Oh! I forgot to ask - which school's admissions office did you get this information from?

Honestly, I don't remember. I spent all day yesterday calling schools for status updates. I'm not sure which office it was that explained this to me. I wouldn't be surprised if most schools worked in this fashion, it just makes sense when you think about it.

so today i got an email from tufts asking for an official letter from my undergrad describing the "institutional action" i had my freshman year. most schools that asked for this did it WAY back when asking for the supplemental. what does it mean that tufts is asking now? are they considering me?

just got an email from Tufts saying this:

.I am writing to request that you return to your online secondary application and update your contact information, especially your mailing address..
. .
.We expect to be mailing letters late next week to all applicants who interviewed with us in October..

wuh oh!

I got this email too. Hopefully all october interviewees got it, and not just the ones they're planning on letting know by mail instead of phone

I called today and the nice lady at the admissions office said I was complete 9/11 and I am "under review with the committee"

I was a september interview, got the same email, and got the acceptance phone call a few days later. They send that email to all interviewees, I believe. They ended up sending me a packet in the mail and an email, but they came a couple of days after the call.

Hey guys,

I was complete on 8/5/09 and have been Under Review since. They say 4-6 weeks. Should I call or just wait?
..I've got the same question..

I've already had two schools who lost my file (RF, UConn -the ones that I had to mail paper copies to), and NYMC apparently never recieived my payment when I called them and asked what was going on with my file.

I figured there's no way Tufts lost my app or the money, since I show up as "complete". I've been complete for a bit over 2 months now though..wouldn't they have made up their minds by now?

PS. Tufts being in Chinatown makes it awesome. I would actually be able to get decent food for the next four years..if they let me in..

So in the beginning of this process I emailed schools asking if they required letters and Tufts said that they only require an explanation from applicants they are inviting to interview...so maybe congratulations

Ok Tufts, it has now been a month since you last handed out any regular MD track interviews. And tomorrow is Friday, your traditional day of sending out news. Do the right thing and save many a poor SDNer's soul from the anguish of the unknown.

Please?

Got that email too. Here's to next week! Pretty fast 👍

Been complete for 2 months now and no news yet! I'd like to know this as well, but judging by the thread, nothing recent.

Been complete since July 31 and no word whatsoever.... feels like I'm pretty much just waiting for a rejection

How is Tufts with In the Area emails? Has anyone tried this?
