Do any of you know if I have any chance on an early decision application? State resident, 4.0, 26Q, ECs up the ying yang.
BTW, this would be for entering 2011.

if you retake the mcats and get 30 or better you have a def. shot i would say

In the case of many schools, including the two UMDNJ schools, early decision applicants who are accepted actually have better stats on average than those accepted during the normal cycle. In other words, its tougher to get in early decision. I know this because I tried to do it too, but the truth is NJMS or RWJMS can fill their classes without a problem and don't really care if you are set on the school. There are exceptions but a school will take the regular applicant with the better stats. So... bring up the mcat.

Did anyone else get offered a second interview for this cycle? I interviewed a week ago, and they just asked me back for a second round interview which should last "1 hour to 1 and a half hours".

i've never heard of that before. i interviewed way back in august and was definitely not asked back for a second interview. i wonder if that's a bad thing... =/

either way good luck!

Well, after much contemplation about applying this cycle or waiting till next cycle, I've decided to go ahead and give it a shot. I sent primaries a while back, and am planning to get the secondary fee and such out by Oct 1, and committee letter out by Nov 1 (hopefully sooner, depending how long the committee takes).

Anyone else applying late as well?

Yes! Finally got an in-state interview, and just when I thought they had probably tossed my app...phew, what a pleasant surprise.

hi guys! those of you who have already gone to newark for an interview - did anyone take the train? i have my interview tomorrow and have to take the train. i know i will have to take a bus from the train station... do you know if interviewees would be allowed to use the njms shuttle bus? has anyone done this? i'm terrified of getting lost!

I took the shuttle bus. Just show them the letter that they mailed to you confirming your interview, and you should be fine. The shuttle bus should be right outside Penn station front door, NOT where the other buses meet up. Just ask the info desk person, they will guide you.

For all of you out-of-state applicants to NJMS, I'm curious about how you responded to the secondary application question "Please describe the specific and/or unique reasons you have applied to NJMS" I want to sound credible but when I explored their website to learn more about the school, I honestly didn't know what to say about why I specifically picked this school. Any suggestions?

tell them you watched garden state and the person next to you got ridiculously bored to death and you revived him

but nah, idk, you kinda have to be a jersey native to really actually want to go to this school (imo). maybe you will enjoy the newark area. it has a VERY high traffic airport, which means a good number of immigrants and foreign diseases and high volume of patients and what not. plus newark/jersey is in middle of everything. high property taxes. great elementary education system. if you look up teachers salaries, you will be surprised at how much jersey teachers make. bank. i love jerz tho

3.7/34 Q and im in state

Caveat is that i am applying hella late. submitted my primary yesterday and will have my letters sent by oct 26. and i think the secondary is up on the internet so i just filled that out and sent it right then and there. Someone please tell me i filled out the right form lol.

i dunno how familiar u are with the process, but AMCAS will need to verify your application before it gets sent to the schools. That can take anywhere from 4-8 wks.
You will get an email (or u can just keep checking online) to check when your application is released to the schools..
Then, you can send your secondaries.

The secondary online is the right one... in the meantime, u can just fill it out n send it as soon as ur verified w/ AMCAS...

The truth is that you are a little late on the application cycle but OF COURSE you stand a chance of getting an interview...

You have very good stats. If you show any interest in the school, I bet they'll get u in for an interview..

So I should have waited to send in the secondary form online? Because I did not get an email and my application is obviously not verified right now, but I went to their website and just filled out the form and paid already. Should I call them up and fix that?

if i interviewed in the first week of september, do you guys think i should hear something October 16th ish?

When would you expect to hear back from an interview on Sept. 24? That's 3 weeks off from Oct. 15. I know the standard is 6-8 weeks, but when I was leaving the interview they told me "On or after Oct. 15."

hmm there was a thread on when acceptances came out last year compared to when the applicant had interviewed but not much data from NJMS. i think everyone should not expect to hear back or whatnot, just to let it not distract you from the current day to day activities (that sounds like depression), and just take a phone call as a surprise

That's what I hoped to do. Though in the back of my mind, I will be praying to see a foreign number of the (973) area code.

oh god, you guys need to stop telling me the area codes of these schools

Haha.. In NJ, it's common knowledge to associate the 973 with brick city!

The phone number will probably show up as restricted or unknown anyway.

And in two years, when Cooper gets its own FULL med school, those from the south can stay in the south. Maybe they should give preference to south jersey to further divide the state?

I haven't gotten an interview yet.... 🙁 and when I called, Ms. White, the secretary told me that my application has not been reviewed. I spoke to Dr. Heinrich in July and he asked me to submit my secondary asap.... confused....

Interview invite! I heard there was an interviewer that asked about health care? What are some common questions that they ask?

My interviewer asked about health care, but it was very open-ended. I believe she just said "Talk to me about health care and reform." And I just proceeded to go on a mini monologue for a while... wasn't too bad. Just read and keep up with the reform proposals.

this will be generally true for all schools. they aren't going to ask randomly what you think about x specific thing from y specific bill and what not

its gonna be like.. well there's is so much going on in healthcare. what do you think of it?

key things to have are
1. idea of the things going on
2. a positive outlook
3. some kind of a stance but you should always ask the interviewer what he/she thinks because they just want to talk about their ideas for the most part
4. bring up some **** from your activities to tie into it so you have another segway

What kind of a population does NJMS serve? Does anyone know?

its in Newark, and its a state hospital

that means underinsured and the uninsured for the most part

i likeded it

t-minus one week before this thread explodes with acceptances...

Congrats! 👍 When were you complete?

Oh I actually got the interview invite mid September, and am interviewing in 2 weeks. My primary was verified 8/27, complete 8/29 since no essays.

hopefully!! although they might end up taking a little longer which would SUCK. i just want to get this process over with lol

Well when I left my interview they said "On or after Oct. 15th" so I assume they are going to send the first wave of acceptances then. I'm hoping everyone in this thread gets in!

I had my interview last Friday (the 9th). Hope I get some good news from them...Would be a good start to the whole process >>;;

How do acceptances/rejections arrive? email? please don't tell me it's snail mail!

And I thought anything Oct. 1st and after was too late to expect a notification already, is it not?
