Somehow I would think that OS IS will be roughly the same, because OS tuition is so high.
I wonder how many spots are reserved for IS.

I wonder how many spots are reserved for IS.
At this point in the stage, who really knows. I did the math. There are roughly twice as many IS accepted as OSS but IS accepts more offers, so that slightly increases the number of OSS offered.

The ratio for IS to OOS should already be what it is supposed to be with the initial offers. The reason they do it this way is probably so that the ratio doesn't change (i.e. when someone OOS drops, someone OOS adds and the ratio stays the same).
Because of this, I would assume you are on the right track terry. It is probably roughly the same, with some little things that account for variability (e.g. high tuition, more people being generally likely to pick an IS school if they get in, CA not having any IS med school seats...or whatever).
Guys I feel like if I don't get off the waitlist this year (4th year waitlisted at medical schools) one of you guys who get's accepted is going to have to diagnose me with clinical depression and prescribe me happy pills.
Now you're just being pessimistic hopeful !!!
I think the best way to go about this is to stay positive ... I really think we're gonna be surprised by tomorrow's results (at least I hope 🙁)

I'm definitely with you on this. If the admissions person isn't in UNTIL Wednesday, it's probably going to take a day to organize all the withdraws that have happened the past 4-5 days and get things sorted out.
I mean, I have no idea what will happen. But I am not holding my breath for tomorrow, and I will definitely not be surprised if the "big move" happens on Thurs or Fri.

I don't think it will take too long to process withdraws. If we don't get news until Friday its by choice of the adcom. How hard could it be to figure out. My guess is between noon tomorrow and Thursday morning. Imagine if they did away with this scaled score nonsense and just put all 200 of us in a ring and let us all go at it.. royal rumble style. Last 40 standing get in. if the anxiety on SDN were any indication of the tenacity in the ring, it would be a bloody mess. Who needs gladiators when you have waitlisted medical students.
That would be hilarious. We should form an SDN group of 40 people and we will dominate the ring.

I'm a girl too, but I can fight dirty if need be, lol. I WILL be one of the last ones standing. I like the putting the waitlisters in a ring and fighting it out idea. I really think that the SDNers would kick some booty.

that just means nobody on SDN heard any news today.
Well and if some people heard news today, I wouldn't be suprised if i didn't, lol. I can't help but feel like I'm nowhere near the top of the waitlist, but then again there really is no way to know...
With the amount of people on SDN, and the serious movement we all are expecting, I'm sure at least a couple of SDNers will get pulled off and we'll hear about it. Let's say SDN represents 10% of those on the waitlist. Assuming everyone is equally probable of getting in, if 20 people are accepted, the odds of there not having an SDNer accepted is very very low (.9^20) About the same odds of having the acceptances being based on a royal rumble match 🙂

At this point in the game, an update won't help much. Your spot on the watilist is already determined. Which is dumb, especially since you have grades to update. Look through the thread and you'll find more details on this.

so the end of the week...it is...
just called the admissions office and asked about the number of people that have withdrawn since the May 15th date.
She told me that they won't know until the end of day tomorrow. So I assume that they will send out offers Friday the earliest.
Another two days of waiting !!!!

Not that any of this information will give us any insight into our future drudgery, but here are some things I found from last years thread...
No reported WL movement prior to May 15th. There were mentions of 5 people being pulled off the WL in the last 2 weeks of May.
3 people reported being pulled off in June, 2 of which were in early June.
2 people reported being pulled of in July.
I have heard, as I am sure you all have as well, of students being pulled off the waitlist during orientation week.
One thing to keep in mind, SDN seems to be growing every year. Last year, the Wayne State thread ended on page 14. Its only May and we are already on page 29. Even though there were only 10 reports (on SDN) of people being pulled off the WL last year, I'm sure there was still considerable movement. For whatever reason, it seems like the WL has been moving a little quicker this year, or it may be that its just more reported this year since we have more SDNers. But I have reason to believe that the former is true rather than the latter. In last years thread (the 2008-2009 thread) someone mentioned that the 2007-2008 year had more waitlist movement. And, mind you, the entering 2007 class (graduating 2011) was the class that was heavily over-accepted, leading Wayne to ask accepted students to deffer a year. So, yes, I think the early waitlist movement is a sign of good things to come. Last year, someone was told that they typically accept anywhere from 50-100 students off the waitlist. This year, someone was told we can expect 0-100 students. I know we've argued this back and forth, but with where Detroit's economy is at and with new medical schools popping up as frequent as Tiger Woods' man-tool, I'm guessing we see a movement of closer to 75-100 students. Not to mention the state of the nation's economy... I sure as hell wouldn't want to pay 60K for OSS tuition theseadays. I'm sure many OSS feel the same way. Obviously not all of them, but even if finances effect 1 or 2 of the 200 OSS students that are accepted, that's 1 or 2 more that get accepted off the waitlist.. It all adds up.
I can't believe that I am saying this, but it seems like Wayne has somewhat of a method to their madness. It seems like they want to get there waitlist down to about 200 students at or around May 15th. We are told that there are about 200 of us this year, and the same was true for last year. Last year they supposedly rejected 150 students in late April/early May. This year it was about 100 students. Maybe they interviewed more students last year than this year, so maybe that's why they had to reject more last year. Or maybe more students willingly withdrew this year, so they had to reject less this year. Regardless, we are looking at about 200 students. Wayne also reportedly rejected an additional 2-3 dozen students in the beginning of June. Subsequently, in June, students were told that there were about 100 students remaining on the waitlist. I'm sure Wayne will aim for the same this year.
Wayne gives about a 2 week period where waitlisters can acccept/deny their offer. So I think Wayne waiting to offer acceptances till later this week has greater implications than we originally had thought. A few lucky bastards were pulled off the waitlist on May 6th. I'm not positive on when their deadline is to inform Wayne on a decision, but its probably tomorrow or Friday. Waiting till the end of this week allows the ADCOM to accept the most accurate amount of students for spots available. Whoever the ADCOM queen is, she probably knew that they would make some offers just after May 5th, so she decided to take her vacation during that 2-week grace period. Earlier, I believed that it was in Wayne's best interest to accept students as quickly as possible, but I was obviously wrong. They probably just want to do as much as possible at one time, so they can take their vacations in between offer dates. 😎
I'd be surprised if their is another major offer date (other than tomorrow) before memorial day, May 31st. My guess is that we won't hear too much between this weekend and June 3rd or 4th... Possibly not until the week of June 7th.

Oh yea, it will be Friday for sure with that answer. Well, it'll be a great weekend or an awful weekend. Either way, I can't wait for the Lost series finale on Sunday
high fives to hopeful...we guessed they'd take their time to sort things out, and we were right! 😀 I'm not glad that it's taking longer, but it's nice to think that they are just taking some time to figure things out instead of having panic attacks every time we refresh our email.

Hooray, we're on the 30th page!
I think it will be closer to the lower side. 25-30. And I think even those numbers are slightly optimistic. They offered 20 before May 15th which means only 20 spots were open. On average, about 50% accept their offers at Wayne. As we get later in the game, that number probably increases a decent amount. Lets face it, if you are on the waitlist at Wayne right now, you probably don't have too many other options so you'll probably take the offer. Example numero uno: ME.
Of the 20 that were offered, I'd guess that 4-8 declined. Again, that 8 is probably optimistic.
And, if Wayne tells us to expect 50-100 pulled from the waitlist, we should expect that. ****... its about the only information they give us, I'm holding on tight to it. 20 have already been offered. So we are looking at 30-80 more offers. I'm so sick of contemplating this. Everything I just hypothesized has awful statistical backing. Like, 4-8 declined??? Yea, I totally guessed. Wait... this is evidence-based medicine we are getting into? ahhhh ****.

This was mentioned somewhere earlier in this thread. But the wait for admissions is nothing compared to the wait for Step 1 results, and step2 is even worse. I can't imagine something worse than what we are going through right now.... I dont even wanna think about it.
and btw, about that icon, im pretty sure the banana represents the adcom, and we are beating them to death... sounds right to me
