Interviewed 9/15

Waitlisted 10/21

No change in status for 11/25 and 12/23

I'm glad they're taking people off of the waitlist . . . My birthday is the next decision date so here's hoping that Wayne wants to give me a good birthday present!

That would be kinda funny if they were waiting till then on purpose. Anyway, can you post the remaining decision dates?

also accepted today off the waitlist. i was too excited to post earlier, but for those of you interested, I interviewed in early november and was waitlisted on the last decision date.

IS student. didn't send any updates. you can check my previous posts for stats or just ask me.

anyways i've totally been humbled by this whole process. congrats to others who were accepted today and best of luck to those still waiting.

Do you know if someone that interviews on Jan 26, will be considered on the Jan 27th decision date?

Maybe if your interviewer gets his report in right away...probably not though. But I would call the school to inquire.

I'm getting really nervous for my 1/15 interview 🙁

After doing a mock interview session, I realized I really need to wow them!

Does anyone know how they take people off the wait list? Please post your interview feedbacks!!!

The letters, whether you get accepted or waitlisted state that 1/7th of the class gets accepted each month. Given a class size of 300 minus 10 spots for WSU Medstart, that leaves 290 seats total. Take a seventh of the adjusted class size and around 42 people get accepted each month. My friend in admissions said that they usually take six people off of the waitlist each month until they run out of new applicants, which would be around may or april. The chances of coming off of the waitlist in December are the best (if you have good stats and applied early) due to the amount of high MCAT apps that applied early and withdrew their acceptances in the November round of admissions--this is evident by the large amount of SDN members who came off of the waitlist this month (including myself). After December, fewer withdrawals will occur and the chances of being pulled off of the waitlist are much lower until the movement season (april, may, june, july and the final waitlist for the risk takers in august). The thing to remember is that anything can happen. Everyone I spoke to regarding my status on the waitlist told me to sit tight until april....just goes to show you that nobody can tell for sure; it's all chance. Best of luck to all of the alternate listed applicants--it's a terrible ordeal and nobody should ever have to experience it.

I'm IS and I have stats quite a bit above their average. I didn't send any updates, LOI's or thank you letters/cards.

I don't think so--the emails go out on the 27th (probably fairly early in the morning, usually before noon), which means that they probably will meet the day before or two days before that date. My friend in the med school told me that the adcom meetings only happen once a month and they're an all day ordeal--I can't imagine that they would do interviews on that day as well.

I was wondering when the average interview date ended? thanks

Unfortunately, there really isn't much chance that would be possible. When I interviewed in early December, my interviewer explained the admissions process to me and he said that they only meet on Mondays. Also, a friend of mine had an interview 2 weeks before the Nov. decision date and they didn't even get to talk about her until the December decision date.

That sucks! Damn it...it sounds like Wayne State is hard to get into...1/7? Those odds are horrible 🙁

Don't be nervous. It's quite laid back. My best advice to people is to make sure you are able to articulate why you want to go to Wayne.

no no no...somewhere upthread it says that if you actually get an interview, your chances of eventually being accepted are something like 75+%. getting the secondary and interview are the biggest hurdles at this school. you are not living up to your username!

When were you complete?
oct 12.. but i was told they don't review in the order they receive them..

is it also true that they're not rolling so it doesn't matter when you interview?

I was told they meet the beginning of just about every month to decide on who to invite for interviews. When I called the office in late November/Early December, I was told they'd be meeting again on January 4th.

So, for in-staters, I'd wait for an invite around Janurary 5th or 6th.

Also, just today, I bumped into a friend of mine who is in her 3rd year at Wayne. She told me they review applications for interview invitations by MCAT score. I think this is par for the course for most schools. For those of you who followed U of Michigan's twitter page, back in early fall, a 38 was the average score of applicants who had been invited for an interview up to that point. Obviously, by the end of the process, that average will drop to 37 or 36.

with all that being said, there is no need to worry since they accept about the same from each cycle.

I thought someone said that they wouldn't be meeting again until early January?

yeah, when i called them about my status a few weeks earlier, i was also told that they do it once a month and that i was still being reviewed.. so you can imagine my surprise at receiving the letter. beats me. but i feel special lol

I really don't understand this at all. I mean, I had a friend who had a 28 and was at the first interview date of the cycle. I highly doubt if that was one of the higher scores for a Wayne State applicant at that time.

Yeah I don't think it's by MCAT, I have 1/15 with a 29S which I know isn't super high.

I know Toledo isn't by MCAT at all because my friend has an interview there in March with a 35 (she got her invite like in Nov).

I got the 1/7 from someone above. You are right though, although I try to be positive, I still feel screwed in this process sometimes! LOL thanks for the reminder!

I'm in the very low 30s and my interview was early October. so maybe their general m.o. is to go in descending order of mcat score, but clearly they make exceptions

good luck, Alwaysbehopeful!

For all the Canadians in the house, do you know how to get to detroit from windsor and how long is the bus/train ride? thanks!

The U.S. Customs people at the border are notoriously slow so give yourself plenty of time to get there if you're driving. Not sure how they are with other modes of transportation.

Can anyone tell me how tuition works for oos. Would it be $60k all 4 years or could we expect some sort of break? Awesome school! I just hope that $ will not be the determining factor if I get in...

I got an interview invite yesterday but I already have an acceptance to Florida state university ( I'm a fl res). Should I still attend the interview? What r ur suggestions?

If you would attend Florida state over Wayne State (which you probably would considering the massive difference in tuition) then its best to decline your interview and give someone else a chance.

Anyone planning on attending Wayne St next fall. Looking to start meeting people who are going to attend.

Excited to be in Detroit next F! I even bought a extra thick coat for the cold weather. Anyways wish me luck 👍

Yeah, I was interviewed on 11/04 and waitlisted on last decision date as well. I'm IS and just recently sent an update. This whole process sucks! I don't know what they want. This is my 3rd application cycle! I have a 37 MCAT score and a 3.89 GPA from the SMP at Georgetown. I don't know what I'm missing - honestly! Could you tell me your stats please? Thanks killzoner!

CONGRATULATIONS on your acceptance!!!

Go Blue!

Well I think it's quite obvious it's not your stats. People with much lower stats than that have no problem getting into Wayne as their average GPA and MCAT is 3.65/30.

That must be disappointing to have stats like yours and be waitlisted, but these things are always a bit finicky (sp?) it seams. Anyways, if I had to guess, it might have something to do with this being your 3rd application cycle.

I dont know why this is your 3rd time applying (unless your stats were lower before...) but its hard enough for 2nd timers, usually.

Regardless, your stats are phenomenal and there is plenty of time left before its all over. I am a fellow IS and got waitlisted in December. I also graduated from U of M and am now attend grad school there (PM me if you wanna talk).

Good luck getting in and congrats to all who have been accepted!

Congrats to all that have been accepted thus far and good luck to those that have interviews or have been waitlisted. I had just a quick question regarding the application process. Would anyone suggest sending in supplemental material if I have yet to be contacted for an interview? If so, any suggestions?!?!

Supplemental material? You don't mean supplemental/secondary application do you?

You'll have another shot in a month. Though you note your SMP GPA I'm guessing it is your undergrad GPA that is probably the problem.

hey mgobluefan,

i set you a private msg. not sure if it went through or not.
let me know if you get it
