Hang in there, Shanks! I'm pretty sure Drexel has a good amount of WL movement, even though it'll be a bit before it happens.

Thanks. I'm hoping so. At my interview day the person from admission's who spoke with us made it seem pretty desperate, and as she said "5 or 7" got off last year, which seems very low, but on last year's SDN thread it looked like there was 2 or so every few weeks in the summer, at least with the SDN population. I'm trying to keep my chin up. Just got invited to one more interview last week, so we'll see how that goes in March, but I was hoping I would know where I would be or start making plans for the summer by now. I guess this stress will continue into the summer then.

I really liked the curriculum, the simulation on campus, and the volunteer opportunities and outreach Drexel has with Philly's urban population, so I was really amped for the school. I attempted to express that in an update after my interview, but who knows.

Thanks for the support, Court.

Maybe she meant that between 5 and 7 people from the waitlist matriculated. This does not necessarily accurately reflect how many people "got off the waitlist" as some individuals may have been offered a place in the class after being put on the waitlist, but ultimately refused the offer because they had made other plans.

:luck:

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, since that is probably the data she had access to or would remember off the top of her head. I just wasn't sure how much Drexel over accepts compared to their available seats or their waitlist moves, as compared to say SUNY-Buffalo who under accepts and waitlists most people, so a significant portion of their incoming class was originally waitlisted. Thanks for the :luck:, hoping it pans out since is Drexel would be my first choice out my potential options.

Weird only 5 to 7? Maybe this is after May 15 and that the WL began moving earlier? That seems pretty small for such a big class. I have to guess that more than 5 got into another school that they had over Drexel such as their state school?

Waitlisted 🙁

OOS, <3.5, 34+

Interviewed mid-November. Here's to hoping the list moves, since Drexel was my favorite out of the schools I've been lucky enough to interview at. I thought the interview went really well too.

You and I both. Sorry to hear that! Good luck at your upcoming interviews! And hopefully we'll both be accepted here off the wait list...

I don't know. It didn't make much sense to me, as someone above said: maybe that was how many actually matriculated?? But as shown on last year's thread, on SDN alone there were more than 5, so there had to be more in the general population, since on SDN it looked like 2-3/wk were accepted off the list, but who knows if they marticulated elsewhere and that is the number the admission's person cited.

Interviewed 1/18/11. I guess according to the stats here, I may have to wait a couple of months before I hear anything?

Great school. Here's hoping!

The freaking waiting is KILLING ME!

I interviewed on Nov 18 - and STILL my file is with the AdComm - with NO Final Decision!!!

SHIIIIIIIIIIT! After hearing LongShanks got WL - I just don't know what to hope for anymore ... This process really SUCKS - and I'm basically getting ready to re-re-apply (my 3rd year now) and include DO schools ...

I have spent SO MUCH $$ Time and Energy UGH I want this more than anything!! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I keep telling myself this was definitely my strongest interview and I felt that I actually fit in with this school and its mission et al but theres only so much one can hope for

😕😕😕

premedapplicant.....keep fighting...remember why you are going to medical school and all the good you will do one day...i have had many days like you and I am only in my first go around so I feel for you! Everything will work out like its suppose to...you just can't give up 🙂

Hey premedapplicant, waiting sucks, I know. It took 4 months for me just to get a pre-interview hold here at Drexel, and I've heard that people on hold almost never get interviews.

At least you got the interview, and your decision could be an acceptance, you just don't know it yet.

But applying for multiple cycles definitely takes its toll and is super expensive and time consuming.

This is my first cycle, but if I had to reapply, I would add DO schools for sure. My stats are good enough for MD, but the whole process is a crapshoot.

that was awesome! i knew med students still had it in them to be video vixens!

I know if you're doing PIL, there's a shadow day you can go to. Other than that, I don't *think* they do a second look. You should probably e-mail them to be sure.

There was definitely a second look day last year (referred to as "Accepted Students Day"). I think it took place towards the end of March.

I was accepted on tuesday and am definitely attending next year!!! 😍 Good luck to everyone still waiting!!

Major congrats, beautybuff!! 😀 Do you mind sharing what day you interviewed?

i interviewed 12/1, and my status changed to under blind review within 2 days of the interview. i really didnt expect to hear back so fast, but i guess my interviewer was on top of his paperwork! 🙂

so i called the admissions office and they said people with final decisions last week had letters mailed on wednesday, anyone want to speculate on how long it will take to get to us? this wait is awful

Is there anyone who interviewed on November 12 that still hasn't heard back yet? My status says that it is still with a member of the committee and will go to the committee soon...it has said this since before Christmas... Thanks

ha, I'm in your boat - 11/22 interview and decision status since mid last week. I'm only a state away, so hopefully mine gets here today or tomorrow! Good luck!

Interviewed 11/19 and still with "a member of the committee". Ughh.

Does anybody know what's the average time it takes from being under review by committee to get a final decision status?

Don't bother thinking about "average" times here. They are very random here, could be quick, could be a long time. Just put it out of your mind as best you can.

You are right tomh98. It is just hard to stay away from the status page. I think I have become addicted to it :scared:

Thanks O2bMD, its ok. I just hope I dont have to wait 8 more weeks....😱

It's terrible what we've become, isn't it? Like little obsessed gollums

So has it been decided that once the status changes to final decision there isn't ANY teensy hint ANYWHERE on the portal suggesting an acceptance or rejection? I know that the first round of BU acceptees had a technical standards form on their page which was a clue to an acceptance.

I'm so desperate!

Hey all -

So its been over 10 weeks since I interviewed - I've written 2 update letters regarding new LOR's and activities I didn't list on AMCAS app - however I haven't written a specific LOI to Drexel - Do you think it may be a good idea to write a really strong LOI as to 'Why Drexel' at this point?

I'm confused. Did you send the letters post-interview? I don't know if there's much of a point in sending anything else until you hear back on the decision. If you were waitlisted, I could see sending a LOI. Drexel just takes forever. A friend of mine just got accepted after waiting 11 weeks, so don't fret.

Yes - both letters were post interview

The end of this week will be 2 months since my interview and I'm still at "A member of the committee." The hell?

I interviewed 2 months and 2 weeks ago and my status still says "Your interview has been scheduled..." so don't feel bad lol.

Maybe your interviewers/reviewers are out of town? Hopefully your decisions will be worth the wait though! :luck:

Anyone here interview the week of 1/10 - 1/15 willing to share what their status says right now? Hopefully differences in timing don't correlate to specific decisions...

Interviewed 11/22 and heard Saturday about my waitlist. So, just under 10 weeks? Not sure if I'm going to keep myself on the waitlist or just say 'your loss, Drexel' - hmm.

I was curious if anyone knows anything about what apartments/housing is like (i.e. cost) for students near the school? I don't remember them saying a whole lot on the subject during the interview day.

Best of luck to everyone waiting for a response!

So I'm still waiting to hear back from the school - my file is with the committee post-interview. This could be the only place I might have a shot to get into, but I didn't get "good vibes" - I don't know if it's just because I had a very disinterested student and faculty interview, but I didn't feel that the school was very welcoming. Anyone have views to the contrary? I really want to like the school since it's the only school thus far that showed me some love, but I wasn't too thrilled with the interview day...

I honestly think your interviewers might have been having "off" days. Both of my interviews were welcoming. Walt, the guy at the security desk, was really friendly, and the students seemed the same to me. How long after your interview was your file sent to committee?

You can do a search for last year's thread. This subject was discussed towards the end of the season by many acceptees last year. From what I can remember, most students choose to live right in East Falls near the school or in adjacent Manayunk where there is a better night life and social scene. Manayunk is rumored to be somewhat safer but when you're in Philly you'd want to be mindful of your surroundings anywhere. The rents on apartments seem to be very reasonable compared to other big cities of its size. You can also do a search on Craigslist to have an idea of how much rent typically runs.

I assume you've been accepted so Congrats! I'd love to get in here.

I'm getting that Drexel has some interview days that are seriously off the mark. I had a similar experience, and I know someone else did here, too. It's strange because other people talk about it and they clearly got a very different impression than I did. Maybe weekends are bad days to interview... I have no idea.

I'm in the same boat. I actually love Drexel because of the clinical opportunities available there given the inner city patient population. I've also heard from many that students seem happy here. My experience from the interview was however somewhat like yours. Both of my interviewers seemed lukewarm about the school at best and only went through the motion as they asked me questions. The MSII who conducted the tour was a lot more enthusiastic. My best impression with the school on interview day was with the helpful security staff and the friendly, casual admissions ladies. You wouldn't know they worked for admissions just by appearance🙂 I would be happy to go here if accepted. The opportunities are all there; we'd just have to make the most of them wherever we end up. And Philly is a great city despite all the rap it gets.

As someone who has been a student interviewer on a weekend and on normal weekdays, a weekend is definitely more rushed on my end. I prefer to have an extended lunch-time conversational style of interview and the weekend days feel more formal and artifical, sticking folks in a room with a time limit to gather pertinent information and get a sense of eachother.

Your mileage will vary based on personal preference and interviewer, but the only thing the weekends have going for them is scheduling convenience in my opinion.

I had both experiences. I am a reapp. THe first interview (Feb 2010), my student interviewer was very bland and unresponsive and difficult to talk to and didn't make eye contact with me or anything.. it was very awkward. Plus she said she only went to drexel because it was the only place she got in.. However, she did have a bad sinus infection and a biochem test that morning so that could've been reasons for her lack of pep. BUT my faculty interview went really well and he was super nice. Sadly, got WLed and didn't get off of it.

Sept 2010 interview, I had the same faculty interviewer who was still nice and friendly... My student interviewer was enthusiastic and happy too. So it was alot more positive.. thus Acceptance this time.. go figure.

Lol And Walt the door guy rocks.. lol he remembered me from the spring. it was funny.
