-I am Indian (from India)
-3.74 overall gpa, 3.6ish science
-Have research experience

-MCATs idk yet, take them in april (i'm applying this summer)

..If anyone is willing to help me on this let me know! Also, if you want to PM me your stats and background taht would be awesome.. Since it's for howard can you include your ethinicty with your stats too..lol

I think Beeweew gave you a great description, to add to that here are some of the key things that Ms. Walk mentioned:
They look at your entire application to see if everything fits. Your MCAT score, strong recent science grades, a great secondary (not messy), turning in early is better, and your interest in working with the underserved communities. Good luck with everything 🙂

USCTrojan11, I turned in my Secondary on Sept 7th but my committee rec letter didn't get in until Oct. 12th. I did send an update a few weeks ago and called to make sure they had received it... I also attended the open house/tour in September and went to the AAMC Minority Recruitment fair which was held in DC in November... Hang in there!!
 
Thanks beweew and doctordang. I appreciate it! I'm applying this summer but it's probably too late to get those volunteer activities now 🙁.. I mean I have volunteered but never in underserved populations. I looked into volunteering in another country and try and helping but then decided not to bc of the money and mcats.. I am looking into volunteering at health clinics so maybe that'll help, but I got to start soon..

The "supplementary application" is basically a different version of a secondary app. It's nothing you have to study for, just questions about your background and your intentions at Howard and beyond. They give you ~30 minutes to do it, but I felt like writing a thesis so I held on to mine and worked on it for a while. I had one of the last interviews so I had more time. They do ask your SAT, but I had to guesstimate because I literally took that thing almost 10 years ago.

Basically what I mentioned. You don't have to overthink it. Congrats on the invite and good luck!
ETA: I remember they asked to describe your high school and where you grew up.

Hey, peeps

So, I was browsing today, trying to get an idea on how to prep for the interview. I found the link below on this thread, posted a few months ago (post #168). I found it to be very helpful and I thought some of you might benefit from it as well.

1. goto: http://www.studentdoctor.net/schools/school/hucm
2. Click on "View Survey Results" to the top-right of the page, then
3. click on the "Questions" link at the bottom of the page.

This page should serve as a guide, it's from previous interview years...

Ah! I am kind of nervous too, my application is probably going to Committee this week!!! I felt like my interviewer enjoyed me...so I am definitely praying hard! This a big week for all of us. But I am excited for this entire thread!!!

I've been reading your thread all day and decided that it would be great for me to actually participate. Let me just say that you guys have both excited and frightened me lol. I'm so anxious to go to Howard and its my first choice.:xf: I'm sending in my secondary application tomorrow morning (late I know). I just really need a group of people to keep me from pulling my hair out throughout this whole process 😱... so congratulations guys... you're it! 🙂

Yup, made it here safely. But, apparently many flights are cancelled because of the snow storm, including mine 😱. That means I'm not going home tomorrow and I don't know how long I will have to stay in Washington D.C. Beeweew, I might still be here by the time you get here for your interview! 🙄

I have been silently following this thread. Thanks to everyone's experiences I am anxious, excited, and flat out STRESSed. I haven't received an invite to interview yet, but I get postive remarks from the staff. I hope I hear something good soon.
 
^Same here! I sent a letter of continued interest last week. Hope Howard shows me some love, but I'm not holding my breath at this point.
 
Oh how I wish the HU would love me too :bang:

I have only received and update for my fall grades since Christmas. I wonder if the class is filling and how chances are looking at this point?
 
Good luck to everyone interviewing. I think/hope mines went well yesterday. The school seems to be pretty thorough and the people there were very welcoming...
 
I got a call today from a number with a 202 area code, and I satrted to flip out thinking that it was Howard. It wasn't 🙁 I am now starting plan B! Good Luck Elle13!!
