I just joined SDN and then found this wonderful thread, I read the thread from beginning to end and I must say woahh!! you guys are good, the amount of encouragement and well wishes for everyone. I interviewed last month and I am still waiting for a positive answer; but the wait is so painful and long but I have learnt patience from all that has gone before.
Beeweew your story touched me the most right from the dream to actuality..
Kaji215 you have been ever supportive..

All I know the admission cycle is winding down but please lift us up in prayer ,all that has been interviewed and waiting for a response.

From what I been told yes. However, they will be sending out invites until mid-April. If you haven't already sent in an update (new fall grades, volunteering, shadowing, etc.), do it ASAP, and then follow-up by calling Dir. Walk as early as possible on the designated days. Best to you and keep hope alive!!!🙂

some of the present applicants got this email recently and it states that there were only 40 interview slots available at that time

I got the email below even though i interviewed March 8th. Should i be worried that my file has been lost/ mis-categorized?

NOTIFICATION: COMPLETION OF HUCM APPLICATION REVIEW

Dear Applicant:

In previous emails, we notified you that we had received and reviewed your AMCAS application and your Howard secondary application. This "INTERIM" email will provide information about your CURRENT application status. Please do not call or email back in response. This year, we have received over 6,500 AMCAS applications. Unfortunately, we are not able to interview every worthy candidate. If we are not able to invite you for an interview, you will receive no further email acknowledgements/updates from the Admissions Office regarding your status. However, you will get a final decision email between April 10 and June 15.

We expect to continue interviewing through the end of April

If the Admissions office decides to invite you for an interview, we will inform you of available dates by email. The last invitations will be emailed in mid-April. We only have about 40 interview slots (out of 300 total interviews per year) remaining.

We are not able to respond to requests for an interview.

If you will be attending another school and no longer have an interest in attending Howard, please send an email withdrawing your application to [email protected]. Please include your full name and AMCAS identification number. We will confirm your withdrawal via email.

I think you should submit your AMCAS application in July so that you can receive your secondary as soon as they release it.. Howard does things kind of differently (in the sense that they dont send their secondary application out until August). But while you wait, you could begin to answer the questions off of the secondaries (you can find those questions near the beginning of this forum). This will give you the proper time to answer each of these questions to the best of your ability.... Howard also requires that you mail the secondary back to them with a passport sized photo and a money order. You could get those two things together while you wait. By doing all of the above, you will enable yourself to mail off the secondary application the same day that you receive it. Consequently placing you near the top of the applicant pool. Now, this does not guarantee you an early interview (or an interview at all) but it does guarantee that, if your numbers are competitive, you will be given some form of consideration. Since they receive so many applications, every competitive candidate is not given an interview but, the earlier you apply the better your chances.... This forum has a lot of great information... Normally, you would get an email stating that your application is out of committee and a decision has been made on your behalf. It would also state that a letter would be sent out on the 15th of that respective month but, since its crunch time I think they may just send out an email stating that a decision was made and you can call for your results.

I did receive an out of committee e-mail but I also know some who have found out the decision without having gotten an e-mail. I'm thinking since the cycle is coming to an end, they might just let y'all know the decision. But keep calling and checking to know if anything has changed concerning your status.

Everyone else, you're all in my prayers! I know it's crunch time but know that there is still hope until you receive that final e-mail saying they are done reviewing files. Hang in there

What is an "out for committee email"?

It's an email you get after a decision has been made by the committee. But you don't find out what the decision is until you get another email which is sent out after your decision letter has been signed; it basically says your letter was just signed you can call the office to find out what the decision was.
Previously, decision letters where mailed around the 15th of every month and applicants essentially found out together once a month. However, now that this cycle is coming to an end, I think decisions are made sporadically based on seats left and withdrawals. You might not get an out of committee email rather a decision is made email. Hope this was informative 🙂🙂😀

As long as its not "sporadic". I figure sporadic acceptances will only come in the summer when people withdraw last minute. Its still early for that i think. Thanks though and enjoy your time at Howard!

The best of luck to those applicants who are still waiting for interviews - late in the game but don't give up hope until they say that the cycle is over.
And to those like me still waiting to hear after interviewing, fingers crossed and trust the Lord will put us in the position for us to succeed in our current endeavours!

I've been mentally preparing myself for that scenario, so I just wanted to hear anyone elses take on it 🙂 They said they will be done giving out interviews by mid-april (again, in the email), so...if anyone would like to give me hope that maybe there will be interviews given out beyond friday....

Also, Im reading this book about patient safety (yes, Im a nerd) and it talks about how the current culture in healthcare needs to be revamped, competition, egos, and arrogance only hurts patients so I think its excellent that Howard is already a couple of steps ahead by encouraging comraderie.

Ok... so HUCM said "Mid-April" for the last interview invite and they told us (those already accepted) that orientation was in "Mid July". Now, we just got an email telling us that the actual date of orientation is July 20th. So their scale of "Mid-anything" is slightly skewed... Therefore, there is, possibly, another week of invites coming up. I wouldnt give up hope until after April 22nd and, even after that, some students that have accepted my pull put on May 15th (which is the AMCAS official decision day). I still think that there is hope....

If in the end, you are not selected than reapply as soon as they permit... be one of the first ppl in line for C/O 2016. You already know that your going to love it here and we will be the best mentoring class that HUCM has ever had 🙂....

SIDENOTE: Im still hoping that you make it into C/O 2015.

Definitely, email her. That mass email is directed toward people who have not received an interview invite, but they probably sent it to anyone who hasn't been accepted yet (I got it too). They told us who were interviewed to keep in contact. I know that you are very nervous, but don't let this process make you irrational.

I have personally found that post interview, i get a much faster (nearly immediate) response from Ms. Walk when I email her. I also include my AMCAS number in all of my correspondence so that it makes it easier for her to locate my file. Calling incessantly without leaving a message won't help because 1) you never speak to anyone and therefore don't get any information and 2) they can see the same number calling over and over. That will probably only serve to annoy them.

Keep your head up and stay positive!! And if you pray, keep doing it! Also, if you haven't sent a LOI, do that also! But keep it short or Ms. Walk won't read it!

I think it's understandable for you to contact them because you have interviewed. You can title the message "interviewed student" or something. You have an upper hand.

i am a testament to this. i've told this story before but in 2010, i interviewed on the very last day and didn't get in. The next cycle, only a couple of months later, i submitted a few days after the secondary was sent, got an interview for the first day and got in. timing is everything!👍
