I'm pretty sure that Boston Children's has not sent out any notifications yet. I think it's supposed to be happening this week.

Has anyone heard anything from sites in NYC (Bellevue adult, Montefiore, Beth Israel, Columbia adult, Woodhull)? Is it just me or is NY responding slowly?

I don't think it's just you. My internship site in NYC is a full two weeks behind last year in terms of notifications. The training director said the new online AAPI and the ever-increasing volume of apps have dealyed things, so hang in there!🙂
I myself have not heard from Bellevue adult, but I think a post earlier has heard back a while ago. Two NY sites (Gouverneur and Trinitas) e-mailed me last Wednesday telling me they just started the reviewing process and will let me know very soon.

I interviewed at Columbia adult, but I got the impression that they were going to invite another round of people for January interviews. I think Beth Israel notifies by 12/31.

So...I'm trying to start figuring out my travel plans, even though I have many sites to hear back from. One of the sites I'm applying to (Southwest Consortium in Albuquerque) doesn't do interviews but does an "open house." I would like to visit there if possible, and it would help tremendously if I could know when those open house dates are, as I could likely "chain" that site with another I've already got an interview at.
Is it kosher to ask the training director when the open house dates will be, before they send out invites? No doubt they've set the date already but it isn't posted on their website....

Last year, one person from my program didn't match. The previous year, 3. Something needs to be done. I agree... this sucks.
Does anyone know how the match system works? How is it that most applicants (60%?) who match get their first choice? That seems weighted in favor of applicants. And yet, how can this be if a site interviews 35 people for 3 spots?
I don't see any problem with this, especially since I believe they are notifying people on Dec. 24th (I applied here, too). I'd like to see it, too!

Since Able has just been removed from a tentative match with Program B, an attempt is made to re-match Able. The computer first tries to place Able into Program B; however, this is unsuccessful because Program B's position is now filled with Charles, who is preferred by Program B. Next an attempt is made to place Able into his second choice, Program A. Since Program A still has an available position, Able is tentatively matched to Program A.

Both the website for SW Consortium and their profile on appic says they'll let people know of their interview status by December 15, not the 24th.
Hmm... I thought that they had extended their deadline to Dec. 3rd and moved their notification date back to the 24th (from the "match news: program updates" emails that Greg sends out), but I could be mistaken (I didn't save all of the match news emails). I hope I'm mistaken.

We're heading towards the 15th. I've heard the waiting to hear back is perhaps the most agonizing part of this process. I can't wait until the waiting is over! It's hard to get any work done with my obsessive email checking.

That was Southwest Behavioral Health Services in AZ! So I'm pretty sure we'll still hear about SW Consortium by the 15th! Good luck!

Well...
Good luck to everyone as we approach a new week. I know my anxiety is through the roof- I feel like more of a psych client than clinician. I have only heard from 3 of my 17 sites.
Is it typical for sites to send rejections? Or do some just not send invites? I am curious if I will indeed hear from each site I have applied.

Thank you for your encouragement. 8 years is insane. If I match this year it will be 8 years after going through internship.
I am on the fence about research being a pro or con. For neuropsychology I think it's "cliqueish." If you come from a well-established lab and your research has the advantage of technology behind it you will be lauded. Otherwise to make an impact you must be creative by finding new ways around technology (which big names have behind them) or by tackling a problem in psychology that is not mainstream, but important. Both ways take courage and time to develop.
What is the payoff? Well if you are creative and enterprising you really may not "fit" in a conventional internship. Think about it- you don't have name brand recognition to endorse your approaches and creativity is hard to convey in brief interviews where interviewers see 75+ people and must make snap judgements on how you fit. In these cases familiarity gives comfort to interviewers. Plus some interviewers might actually be intimidated. Last year I was interviewed with a fellow with less experience than myself! No match there.
Some sites say research helps, others are vocal that it doesn't matter at all. It seems that you either laud your hours or your research, and if you laud your research I would probably make sure someone knows your advisor first.
Clinical psychology is the only field I know of whereby the doctorate is conferred by knowing someone rather than knowing the literature. Maybe APA can form another wonderful committee to hash this over mineral water.

Just received a rejection from U of Mississippi. Kind of deceiving, the subject of the e-mail was "Interview" 🙁
Ugh - I'm sorry - that's brutal!
Just realized that I got a call from UCSD on my office voicemail over the weekend (on Saturday). It's too early to call them back (since I'm on the east coast)...anyone else get a call this weekend and actually pick up?
If they called you, I am pretty sure this is an interview. Its odd for people to call about rejections or not leave the rejection message in the machine. Just my 2 cents.

Addictions. I know that 3 others from my program got calls too and they applied to tracks besides Addictions (I think BMed & Trauma?).

I got rejection emails from Kaiser San Diego and the West LA VA today... still 14 to go, but as much as I know it's a part of the process, the string of rejections stings. 👎

I got a rejection from West LA VA as well, although it was somewhat expected as they are more of a generalist program and I'm more of a neuropsych applicant. It still sucks.

Yep. But I'm telling myself that he didn't send that to everyone, and that I must've been a "maybe" who got cut at the end (you too, sounds like!)--it's easier than taking it as a true rejection! Sorry to hear you got bad news too... ugh.
Johnson42, sorry to you too that you didn't hear good news from the West LA VA. I knew I didn't have much of a shot as it's more research focused, but still it was relatively high on the list and I was definitely the most bummed about that one so far...
Hopefully no more bad news for a while... I've decided over the next 6 business days, I would like 1.5 rejections per day... that would leave me with a total of 6 interviews, which I'd be really happy with. Come on, interviews!

Former two were by email, UCSD was by telephone. Apparently, they started calling people last weekend, and some of the interview days are already filled up.
Is anyone else finding it hard to schedule these interviews, because many sites seem to want to interview within the same week or two? Some places allow you to defer confirmation until Dec. 15, but others want confirmation ASAP or else your preferred day won't be available. So what happens if you can't make one of their interview dates? Should you request an individual interview on another day or a telephone interview?
Also, is there a certain number of interviews that make you "safe" for matching (e.g. you don't need to rank more than 5 sites)? I'm not sure at one point one can turn down interview offers... If T4C or other internship veterans/post-docs can weigh in here, I'd appreciate it.
I ranked 8 sites last year and did not match. From my perspective, take as many interviews as possible and try to negotiate other options (e.g., phone interviews, alternate individual interviews) if scheduling becomes an issue. Of course, it is easy to start ranking places based on what you read or have heard about them, but nothing replaces seeing it for yourself. Also, if you were truly very thoughtful about the sites to which you applied, it will be more difficult to turn down interviews because you can identify why you belong at each site.

Hi all, I've also been lurking for awhile but hopefully participating in the posting will help relieve some stress! I'm applying to general and b-med/health positions, and I'm starting to get very nervous (well, even more nervous, I've been nervous ever since I started putting my list together this summer!). So far, rejections from Brown, Hartford Consortium, and Milwaukee VA; interviews at Minneapolis VA, Jesse Brown VA, and West Haven VA. Still waiting to hear from 9: UCSD/VA, Rush, Palo Alto, Hines VA, Charleston Consortium, Buffalo VA, Durham VA, VA Ann Arbor, and WVU (though the last two just have open houses). I know some people have already heard from some of those, so although I know interview invites sometimes come weeks apart it's hard to not have a feeling of impending doom about them!
