From what I've heard, and I'm not entirely sure, the admissions committee does care about the student interview. For instance, if the student interviewer ranks you as "waitlist" or "rejection", you'll probably end up being waitlisted or rejected. This is what I was told by my friends, who are actually student interviewers. I'm not a student interviewer myself, so I don't really know all the details.

This is not entirely true (I am a student interviewer at Jeff).
True: Jefferson does take student interviews seriously.
True:I have to rank the interviewee as "accept" "waitlist" "reject".
BUT...If I rank someone as accept, they can still be waitlisted/rejected....or accepted/rejected if I waitlist them. A rejection by the student interviewer is used only in extreme circumstances. Basically, the student interview is just another component of your application. So, relax, take a deep breath, and try to give the interviewer a good impression.

If your interviewer didn't make it to the committee meeting, you'll probably hear on a Wednesday because that's the day of the week they make decisions.

They make decisions the same day as interviews? I read it was Thursday (I think on the SSD thread last year). Do they hold the adcom meetings after the cookie hour or something?

I'm not entirely sure when adcom meetings are held but decisions are always sent on Wednesday afternoon. So, applicants should be getting decisions a week after the interview.

If you don't get a call, how much longer do you wait to get a waitlist/reject email?

Depending on when your interviewer makes it to the committee meeting. Usually, you get decisions the following week, but I remember a couple of people from last year who didn't get their decisions for up to 3 or 4 weeks. Some interviewers live outside of the Philly area and don't always make it to the meetings.

Yeah my interview was the 29th of September. I'm sure my interviewers specialty keeps him busy, but dammitall.

So basically....hearing nothing doesn't mean anything? It just means a decision hasn't been made?

A call or an email would be sent on the same day?

That seems like good news!🙂

Maybe, maybe not.

Waitlist emails may be sent the same day acceptance phone calls are made, but typically they are not. I've seen people not get their waitlist emails for a week or more post-interview.

HP Waitlist. Sad.

So what now? I guess I continue with updates and a letter of intent.

Dear Wanderer,

The Committee on Admissions, after reviewing your application, has placed you in the Alternate Category. This list is flexible and there are no ranked positions. While we are unable to offer you a place at this time, your application will remain under consideration. A place in the class may develop for you, but for some individuals on the Alternate List, a place may not be available before class begins.

This is death at the school, right?

I got the "alternate catagory" email too...I guess that's worse than High Priority waitlist?? Anyone know?

I got the HP waitlist too. Damn. Hopefully people start dropping out.

Sorry about the bad news, guys. Yes, HP list > Alternate list. HP means you still have a shot. Many people are taken from the HP list every year. Alternate list is pretty much a rejection.

Best strategy is frequent communication with Callahan expressing your high level of interest in attending Jeff, frequent updates (if you have any), and a letter of intent. I would not suggest that you sit back with your fingers crossed and just hope to get lucky. Keep your name in front of Callahan so that when it comes time to pull people off the HP list your name jumps off the page at her.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Any idea of the time frame between now and when one might hear?

BAMMM! Rejection 🙁.

Good luck everyone else! Keep your faith if all else fails.

The earliest I recall hearing that someone was pulled off the HP list was either January or February. For the most part, however, there is not significant waitlst movement until spring.

Hey guys, I submitted my secondary to Jeff about 3 weeks ago and was wondering how we know if we're complete. Do they e-mail you or is it just when the status page says Yes in all the areas?

Finally complete at jefferson! I just received the complete e-mail today, 10/19. Has anyone received an interview for the PSAP program? Do they interview for the program separately?

When did you submit your secondary?

I never received a complete email and I submitted my secondary end of August. I spoke with someone from the admissions office and was informed that if you have a "YES" next to all the items, you are considered to be complete.

regarding the PSAP program I got a call like 2 months after I was complete for an interview. its in 2 weeks 🙂

I did have a question. For those of you who have interviewed PSAP already or who are first year students and interviewed, how is the interview different from regular decision? and do they ask you about the additional LORs that we sent in specifically?

I have been complete since late July/early August and heard nothing. Does this imply silent rejection? Has anyone heard of someone being complete for this long then being invited for an interview?

I don't think so yet, I was only a couple weeks behind you and just got called in for an interview this week.

No, it does not necessarily imply a silent rejection. It's not unusual to be complete in July/August and not get an interview invite until January or February or even March. Interviews are conducted into April and interview invites are usually still going out in in March. And don't expect to receive any communications whatsoever from the admissions office in the intervening period.

Interviewed today. This school is awesome, they really sell it well. Most personable, relaxed interviewees and students I have seen through 7 interviews. They talked about the school being non-competitive until they got to the gym area where they said the students are really competitive... but at intramural sports.

Thank god they get back to us quickly.

Completely agree with the above review.. I interviewed today and it was the best one I've been to yet (although it was already my top choice so I might be swayed :] ). The students obviously love it there and it's the first school I've seen where they say they actually have a social life. My faculty interview was so relaxed and completely conversation style and we went over time because we were so caught up in our convo. I would die of happiness if I got an acceptance here.

Are you planning on sending letters of interest/intent within the next week (I guess it has to be soon since we goto committee so quickly). Who would you send it to, Calahan/Brooks?

I was going to send thank you notes to my interviewer and the two of them, and yea I'll probably write about my intent.

I'm glad you guys enjoyed your interviews!

Either Dr. Callahan or Dr. Brooks would be fine. Also, I would wait to send the LOI after your decision is made. Sending it before just seems way too soon, IMO.

I was expecting to see some acceptances today, seeing as last year's thread had people getting calls on the Wednesday following their interview. Either way, I have my fingers crossed. I'll almost certainly attend here if accepted.

Maybe they already got to most of the interviewees for the Oct 15th batch, so they might not start again until next Wed.

Just got the packet almost a week after the phone call🙂

i just got an interview invite! at 11:45 pm, weird
complete sometime in august

I got an interview invite yesterday for December 8! It's about a week before my birthday, so I'm hoping I'll receive the best present ever 😀

Congrats to everyone who received interview invites! Do you guys mind sharing w/us when you were all complete? I submitted my secondary end of August and am hoping for some good news. Thanks and good luck w/all your interviews!

How many people were there on your interview day? How often do they do interviews? How long after the interview do they let you know your status?

Thanks for your help 😀

Forgive me for not looking through earlier pages of this thread, but does Jefferson send complete emails? I should have been complete late August/early September...

There are usually about 20+ interviewees each day. Jefferson interviews on Wednesday. You'll usually hear decisions in a week unless your interviewer doesn't make it to the committee meeting. I know some people who didn't get decisions for 3-4 weeks.

They don't send complete emails. Check your status page, and consider your application complete if you have a "yes" next to everything.

How long did it take you guys to get an interview? I was complete in August and still nothing! I'm thinking about calling ... but don't want to be too annoying!

Agreed! Any timeline?

Don't worry, I was complete the day the secondary app came out (July or early August maybe?) and I just got an interview. Take my advice with a grain of salt, but I really wouldn't call if I were you. I'm simply basing that on the standards of professionalism. You don't want to make yourself annoying... just be patient. It's not even halfway through the application process yet. They also get about 10,000 applications each year and can only interview so many at a time. It takes a while.

Coming up on two weeks post interview...I think they said four weeks at the interview, so I'm surprised people are hearing back sooner.

They said 1-4 weeks. But don't worry because the time it takes has no bearing on the decision, it just matters when your interviewer was available.

As far as time to interview invite, this school seems to be highly variable in sending out invites. Dr. Brooks and Dr. Calahan split up the work of looking at every single application and choose who they think will be a good fit. So send them a personal email and they will probably take an extra peek at your app.

Im interviewing next week and will be coming from newark NJ with the NJ transit. Does anyone know if the downtown greyhound stop or the 30th street stop would be closer to jefferson?
