Hey, Keep your head up!!! I interviewed on Monday and Director Mosley said that the official class of 2015 is 105 students however, 25 spots is already set aside for their post-bac students so it is really 80 spots available. That's all i heard of the post bac program. Getting into it as a backup is not a bad idea because it seems like all the post-bac students have to do is fulfil a minimum requirement set by the program and they automatically get moved into the SOM class afterwards.

However, don't count yourself out of an interview just yet, Director Mosley said they will be interviewing close to 500 students and i doubt they have interviewed even half of that number.......be patient!

Hope this helps 😀

Scratch what i said earlier i just not realized what you meant. Most postbacs get in IF their scores are up to par. The 25 is kinda give or take depending on how they did. Slight misunderstanding sorry folks

Post bac is a good program here. I have several friends who were in it last year. It prepares you for the classes here and they help you with the mcat and you get to know some professors here early so if you get it and really want to be in meharry then go for it

They must be changing things because we had around 100 students in our medical class (2014) and postbacs were in a separate count so that 105 should be just med students.

Interesting, thanks for sharing 😀

Thanks for the insight - so, I still have a few questions

1. Are all re-applicants to Meharry only considered for the post-bac program. So, if a re-applicant receives an interview invite are they basically only interviewing for a post-bac seat vs a seat in the regular class?

Do you know of anyone who was a re-applicant that was accepted into the regular class?

2. Is the post-bac program designed so that the students complete the first year of medical school in two years instead of one? Or will the students in the post-bac prgm be essentially beginning medical school after they successfully complete the post-bac year?

3. Is it true that prospective post-bac students are only selected from the waitlist?

Thanks for your time answering my questions 🙂

1.) If you are applying at all you are considered for spots in the Medical Class. They select all the spots for the class first then they choose some applicants who weren't selected but were really good for the postbac program. That was what I was referring to. So if anyone is applying again you're considered for the class first not just postbac

2.) From what I learned about it from some postbacs who made it they went through the program going over biochem, anatomy, mcat help then took it again and if they got in began year one but I'll ask them what classes they took

3.) This is kinda iffy. I heard from last year that some received the postbac invite from the beginning after the interview and some were offered the invite near the end of the process (maybe some who received the invites didn't accept which forced them to go to the waitlist might have been the cause) but don't worry it's VERY VERY early and although some people might have been accepted they still have interviews ongoing so just hope for the best and keeping praying people 👍

Has anyone that has been accepted received their formal packet of information regarding housing, academic calendar, financial aid...etc?

Thanks for all your helpful information, WhatThaFlocka!

Mr. Mosley said that financial aid information won't come out until March. Something to the tune about not wanting students to use Meharry's financial aid to make other schools compete for the student.

sounds about right.

as far as housing goes the Towers are more apartment styled but it's a VERY LOW (nearly impossible) chance you'll get there. Dorthy brown is more undergrad dorm like. We have pictures on the Class of 2014 fb group.

If you know you want an apartment it would be good to start that in January-February. I used google and found a great spot and meharry will send you a Tennessee Apartment guide with alot of complexes in there.

Faith00, the information presented by WhatThaFlocka is right...I actually know a few folks who were reapplicants from last year and they've been fully accepted to Meharry this season.

Thanks for the additional confirmation - I'll definitely go into my upcoming interview with more confidence now!!

Hello all! My application is on hold for Meharry. Does anyone know how that works? Are my chances still good or should I move on? Am I just waiting for people to drop their acceptance. Any new you all have please let me know! Thanks!

I'm on hold, too, with no interview and would really like to know if I should send more info or move on to other schools. Meharry is one of my top picks for schools because of their mission to the poor, but will they even bother to interview me?

I just got an interview invite from Meharry for February 14th! I'm so excited because this is definitely my first choice 😀

Congrats to those accepted and GL to those who are interviewing. I will be withdrawing my interview for Jan 7th due to acceptance at my first choice school. I hope my interview date goes to one of you deserving candidates. Best of luck everyone and remember to always put God first. :luck:

I finally got an interview invite today for January 31st!!! I planned on sending an update letter, but got busy with school and work. I'm so excited about this interview!!!

Just got the "hold" message, complete at the beginning of Sept. I will send my updated transcript when the new grades are in but don't know if I should add anything about shadowing/volunteer work since completing the app.

Congrats KlassikMD!!!🙂

Congrats to both of you for getting the interviews. Most of them are laid back so just be confident and the student interview is fun and they'll be able to tell you more about meharry from a student's prospective so make sure you really ask them what you want to know

Has anyone who interviewed on December 3 heard back from Meharry? I remember Dr. Mosley stated that we will know something by Christmas.

Thanks!

Congrats. I'll be interviewing Jan 31st in Meharry too.

For those who already interviewed, what were some of the questions asked? Thanks.

ACCEPTED!!! :highfive:

I received a letter in the mail today and I interviewed 11/8/10....anyone else in the same boat?

I also interviewed on 11/8. Did you have an early or late interview. I'm excited, I heard back about my ACCEPTANCE within a week of my interview. 😍😍😍😍😍

i interviewed on Dec 3rd also and I have not heard a thing. It may be because my mailbox situation is a little screwed up and i got some issues to solve with the post office. I do know at least one person wait-listed from that interview though. So.... i don't know. lets hope for the best.

Thanks it works well on twitter lol. Good luck on your interviews. I remember the student host form being sent out so you should find someone to host when you show up

I had the early interview! I will be attending in June! what about you?!

Hey paramedik2doc,

Do you know if they were notified of their waitlist status via email or snail mail? I am definitely hoping to hear some good news soon! Thanks..

Ok so here's my dilemma
I'm suppose to interview on Jan 7th, but i'm suppose to hear back about my 4 other interviews by Jan 21. I had to change my interview date from Dec 13th to the 7th because of finals, but now I want to change it again to see if I get accepted anywhere else. Do you think it would look really bad if I asked them to switch my interview to the end of Jan or early Feb? I just don't want to pay for a plan ticket and interview on the 7th and then get into my top choice a wk or 2 later.

Yeah I am in the same boat.. I interviewed on the 6th and have not heard anything back yet🙁... I really want to go to this school and am stressing out especially since they said we would hear back before x-mas..that only leaves one more day to get the mail..come on MEHARRY!!!!

Hi. Do they ask you in the interview what specialty you want to do? Since Meharry is big on primary care, does it put you at a disadvantage if you tell them you want to do Surgery or Emergency Medicine?

Yes. I was asked in each of my interviews. I can't speak for others though. I don't necessarily think that you will be put at a disadvantage as long as you are able to back up your prospective specialty with good reasons. Just my two cents...

Some interviewers ask that and some don't. Depends on with Doc you get for your interviews. as redgoddess said as long as you have good reasons for what you want to do you'll be fine. They are big on service to your community so stress that as well. IMO specializing in emergency medicine or surgery wont stop you from helping those in need

Like others have said, I think it really depends on how you answered that question... both my interviewers asked the same question and I said Trauma Surgery - because I get to deal with the sickest patients in an inner city, as they are primarily minorities and it's where my I felt I could make the best impact... and still got accepted. So I dont think they'll ding you for it. Good luck...

Is it bad news if we haven't heard anything yet since they said before Christmas? Has anybody heard anything? I interviewed 12/13.

I was asked this, too, and I answered honestly. I said I wanted to possibly get into allergy and immunology and gave my reasons why I love the field. I was accepted two weeks later. just be honest!! 👍

Woo! Got an acceptance letter in the mail. I was really impressed by how welcoming Meharry was at my interview. They treated you like family.

Good luck to those waiting to hear back on interviews/acceptances!

🙂

ACCCEPTED!!!!!! I am so excited I can barely contain it!!! GL to those still waiting
