East Baltimore it ain't, but it is decidedly urban and working-class. I would not move directly into the area if you have doubts, but rather come to Brooklyn in a more upscale neighborhood initially and decide after familiarizing yourself with the area if you'd be happier living closer to campus.

Just got an interview invite yesterday! My application was initially put on hold pending my fall semester grade report, so I've been complete since mid-January. I'm in-state. Interviewing on March 7!
 
Interview invite yesterday as well. Was complete in late August and had heard nothing from them since.

Invites come via e-mail, I believe final decisions come via snail mail.
 
Hi - does anyone know if they've been begun sending out post-interview rejections? interviewed well before the new year and haven't heard a word back yet.
 
Hi everyone -

I interviewed 12/14 and received a letter dated 2/2 indicating that I was placed on the alternate list because the class is full.

I was complete in October, 32P, 3.9cGPA, 3.8 sGPA, and IS

Good luck everyone! Hope that the alternate list has a lot of movement this year 🙂
 
Wow...guess I now know what best case scenario is from my interview in late January...I am kind of disappointed to hear this.
 
Dammit.

But he could be a troll just trying to scare everyone. He/She has only 1 post, joined SDN TODAY, and had their last SDN activity at exactly 9:20pm which is the same time as the post. That means that he/she made the post and immediately signed off. While its possible that this is all true, I think its a troll.

I hope so at least.

Honestly, it is likely that the class is "full" of students that they really want to hand acceptances out to. If they REALLY want a student, they'll send him/her an acceptance and hope another student withdraws. I mean, we're about 5 weeks away from the deadline that they need to have offered acceptances to at least their class size, so we can assume they have offered that many acceptances--so in one sense it is "full", but they probably haven't literally "filled it up" yet to the point where they can't hand any more out.

In short, don't worry guys about whether it's full or not. It is what it is...if the school REALLY likes you, you'll have a spot there.

Unfortunately, I'm not a troll, and I'm actually a SHE! If you check last year's thread, acceptances stopped going out around this time and they sent alternate list letters with the same explanation. I'm sure if you are a strong enough candidate there's still a chance you will be offered an acceptance, I didn't mean to scare anyone. I just wanted to share what my letter said because of the concern that the class was full. You can call or email Ms. Levine if you want to check the status of you application if you already interviewed, she let me know when a decision was made (but obviously not what the decision was)

Yes. You may receive your post-interview rejection shortly in the mail.
 
Can anyone tell me anything about interview day. I interview on Wednesday and im really confused. How many interviews do i have in that day and how long are they?
 
In regards to sending out LOI's, how have people been phrasing them? How long do you typically make it? and do you send via snail mail or email? Any advice would be great!

I am still waiting for a few schools. Honestly, I felt like the interview went very well. I was surprised by the letter today because the interviewer went out of her way during our meet to stop me and say how impressed she was by my application. IMO, she made it sound like I had nothing to worry about, but quite obviously the admissions committee felt otherwise.


Either way, lets just hope everything works out for us all. 😀
 
So I just got a letter (dated 2/1) that I was placed on the "Hold for spring consideration" list. Has anyone else been put on this list, and is it the same as an alternate/waitlist or is it better/worse than that?

Also, I know earlier in the thread someone said they got a letter that said the class was full; the letter I received didn't say anything about that.

I'll chime in here as someone who was on the Hold for Spring list last year and say that it is undeniably worse than the alternate list, and considered a "precursor to the alternate list" as stated by admissions committee staff when I contacted them last year.

Are any of the incoming M1s planning on attending this event? I just got a reminder email about the day and have been "convinced" to attend. I'm coming from Cali and will probably red-eye in that morning and leave that night. I thought it'd be a good chance to meet other students (both current and incoming) and look at the research going on at the school.

Hope to see some of you guys there!

Probably not, but I did just got the first email at 730pst today and then got the reminder 15 mintutes later.

Did you read the reminder? it's like 19289301829312 copies of the same email, and it was sent out to me at about 20:00. (at least in my copy)

I'm red-eyeing in the morning of the event, so that'll be interesting haha.

BTW, does anyone know if there's a dress code? I am under the impression that there isn't--so jeans and a button down long-sleeve would be fine? That's my "dressed up casual"...lol

I got the email but don't think I'm going... expensive flight tix plus I don't wanna spend any more sick days I have left for work unless absolutely necessary. I would appreciate if you could update us on your experience afterwards though. 😀

Ya sure, no problem. I just wanted to use it as a chance to meet up with current students and get a feel for the housing situation as well. I'd gladly take over someone's lease or share a place with them lol...or any of you too! haha.

Dang, I got an alternate list, indicated class was full. Got a bunch of immunization forms with it. But I think everyone on the list gets the forms. At least its not a rejection, I hope I get in since its my number one! 😀

Does being on the alternate list this early a good sign I might get in? I know its not a guarantee, but I hear it moves a lot? I am going to fill out the immunization forms/FAFSA asap! Thanks!

I would say it's a matter of chance--if there happens to be movement (which I'm sure there is), but it all depends on "who the adcom wants" in the end). I would say good luck and just write to your interviewers/admissions office with any letters/supporting documentation you may have to encourage your candidacy at SUNY Downstate!

Do you care to share when you interviewed and when you heard back? I interviewed early/mid Jan and Im still anxiously waiting, thanks and good luck.
 
Mid-January also, I just hope there is a lot of movement sooner rather than later. I am from NYC too, which I thought would of gave me a good chance. Guess I will have to wait, good luck!👍
 
Downstate asked me to send my Fall Grade report a few months ago (I am assuming this was their form of pre-interview hold). I sent in my fall grades at the end of December. Having received a 4.0GPA for the semester, I expected an interview invite, but still have heard nothing.

Is it time to send them another update? Or should I wait?
 
Just got an interview invite e-mail from Downstate for March 24th!

Got alternate listed stating that the class was already full, int. 1/24. I was told last year at my interview that being alternate listed late in the game gives you a great shot at acceptance, so I am remaining hopeful. I was put on the hold for spring list last year so this is definitely a step up (sorry to all those who are on that list). good luck all!

Im sure there will be some good movement. I think there is a pretty strong chance ill have to give up my spot because I dont think my Fiancee will have any luck with her NY grad school. I really did like this school too.

Sorry to hear that Dmannn, but you're a lucky man to have a choice of medical schools to attend. I'm sure you'll be successful no matter where you go.

Hey thats awesome news! I am waitlisted too, and I want to go here! May I ask who told you this info? I just hope we are in good positions to get acceptances. I think earliest that we can hear back is late April. Good Luck man! Hope we get in.

I interviewed 1/19 but haven't heard back yet at all. @FIREitUP, Did you receive this notice by mail or e-mail? I'm just concerned that my letter might have gotten lost in the mail, or they have forgotten me! lol

@Tiramasu: Got an orange packet in the mail dated on 2/14

@Xadorus: I think it was Dr. D'Oliveira (sp?) who said it last year. I also remember hearing this from someone else.
