Same here......
really relaxed interview at upstate. now i just have to decide if i should put syracuse or bing =(
Yes, me six years ago. Write them the letter. Tell them why you are uniquely suitable for Upstate. Be honest. I got my interview a month later and was accepted right away. HOLD does not always mean rejection. It's all about how badly you want to go there.on hold for re-review 🙁
does anyone have a cinderella story about getting an interview after being put on hold? Luckily I have a killer update essay to send, but Im not sure theyll even read it now!
For those of you on pre-interview hold, don't give up on Upstate just yet.
In the last cycle, several SDNers got late interview invites in late January
and February.

I was put on hold last year at SUNY Downstate and I got a late interview. I know it's a different SUNY, but I'm sure you can draw comparisons...I wouldn't rule it out

I didnt get an email. My status just changed to interview invite and I had a link to pick the interview day
That's how my interview got erased. Wait for an email.
I got the status on Aug 18 & got the email the 23rd.
Otherwise, check obsessively to make sure it's still on the books.
I just checked my status online for the first time since submitting my app in july
I have an interview 😱. How long has that status been there 😕
LoL. They sent me a "you are complete" email why wouldn't they send a "you have an interview" email.
Silly Wabbit

A small interview tip: if you're OOS and not from cold regions, be prepared that they'll challenge you about the snow. Lots of snow at Syracuse. I think they didn't believe my words of snow love. Should have brought some ski photos to this interview.
And be sure to check the weather. It is cold there already!
Edit: as another tip, the interviews are close-file, the interviewers see nothing but the secondary essay that you submitted after getting the interview, and one of my interviewers did not even read that. For me, the close-file interview did not work as the admission office hoped (to know really who I am). One interviewer asked my MCAT score, and the other asked if I'm married

I won't post how my interview went, but most of the other applicants said their interviews were pretty relaxed. Not too formal, not too conversational.
i don't know about you, but mine were really, really laid back and conversational. I actually really liked my interviewers and enjoyed the conversations we had; it made me like the place even more.
Question... where do you find out if you're on hold or not?? Whenever I look at my status it just says "complete" since 8/10/10. I never saw a review status or anything... does this just mean I haven't been looked at yet? 😕 I've checked weekly since becoming complete...
Please tell me where to go to find out my status. please provide the link/directions.Thanks.

Pretty sure this is the website (the one used for the 2ndary app):

I have been put on hold as well.........we gotta stay strong and hope for the best folks!!! Good luck to you all!!
How do you know if you are put on hold? Does it say that somewhere? I have been complete for awhile now but my status only says "complete" and nothing else... 😕 I was complete at the end of July.

For the essays, do they want them 1 week after the invite or 1 week prior to the interview.
I believe it's 1 week prior to the interview, so they have time to give it to the interviewers.
Thanks.
This gives me plenty of time
Hey guys!
I'm a little bit late for all of this but if there's anyone on the fence about SUNY upstate, Specifically Syracuse, feel free to PM me!
I'm finishing my senior year at Syracuse University (literally a block from upstate) so I've got all the dish on the weather (yes, it really does snow that much here) and all the great places to eat (beside Dinosaur BBQ which almost everyone already knows about).

Just got the hold status here.
Definitely upset, considering I'm in-state, went to undergrad nearby, and my undergrad sends a lot of people there. Stats were in their range too. I understand people are saying not to give up the hope and people got invites in Jan/Feb, but that hold e-mail from them is so negative compared to other "holds" or "re-reviews". I'll stay positive, since I keep an optimistic outlook on things, but at the same time I have interviews elsewhere.

Just got placed on re-review hold as well. In-state, 3.7, 31R. That's ok, I probably would go crazy with all the snow anyway...

For those of you already attended interview here:
Can you please log into the website, click the "interview day" link, and see if you can see the interview scheduling calendar again? I can see that calendar again, and could almost click to schedule another interview in November (did not dare to click though), while my previous interview date and my uploaded essay are all gone.
Wondering if that is a good or bad sign ....

Same here I'm sure it's nothing it's probably just their way of marking the fact you completed the interview... did you decide on a clinical site yet? I can't decide
For anyone wondering about the disappearing of the "complete" and meaning you were under review, I got the invite without it ever disappearing (unless it was for like 12 hours) so who knows what the meaning of that is.
And sorry for the hold Husbuss, I have pretty much similar stats to you except OOS, weird.

My "complete" part of the status disappeared for about a week and then I got the pre-interview hold today.
For those who have an interview, I'm perplexed at how to approach the first essay question. Are they asking for interests like medically related (research, shadowing, etc) or interests like personal avocations? How are you guys answering this.
I'm not sure I would classify research or shadowing as interests, I really think they mean things that you do on your free time that is unrelated to medicine. For me, I talked about swimming and writing as hobbies. I think they want to see what about you makes you particularly suited for medicine aside from the usual volunteering/clinical experience/research. Could be wrong but that's the impression I got from my interview as well.
As an aside, I just interviewed here and had a tremendously positive experience. I liked their campus and the city of Syracuse itself, the faculty were nice, the students were friendly, and the admissions office was great. I was a little apprehensive to learn about their grading system (something like Honors, High Pass, Pass, Fail if I remember correctly, but not sure) but after talking to the students it doesn't seem to make people cutthroat and rank-happy. I was also very impressed with the clinical skills lab, which was large and seemed to be brand new. Hoping for an acceptance here come October 15!
