I asked a friend from Philly just the other day about the area; she said it was a little sketchy (then compared it to the area surrounding Penn, which she thinks is way nicer). But I've never been, so this is just second-hand info. Good luck!
Drexel Med is in East Falls - its not even in the city
Last 2 yrs for Drexel are in city, or at the NJ shore - but the first 2 yrs are in East Falls.
True - fair enough it is.Uh, East Falls is part of Philadelphia county.
Oh, and Avoidthetiger - I fully expect this to be the school that where we interview on the same day 😉
Does anyone interviewing at St. Luke's on October 19th want to split a hotel room? I haven't heard anything about student hosting and I want to save some money.
I'm a real good roommate, promise 🙂
i might be interested in that
Anyone see or hear anything from the office about the student host list? The document that pops up still says that the names should have been up by Sept. 1st....
Hey Stevo111,
I actually called today asking about this. The lady told me that the list would be up by the end of today, but since it hasn't gotten up yet I'd say it's safe to assume it will be up on Monday or Tuesday. This is the only school I haven't heard back about student hosting yet, and it's my earliest interview, so I'm hoping they will put it up soon!

Yea I'm a med student here and they didn't send the email about being a student host until 4 days ago. There are only about 14 people on the sheet right now so maybe they wanted that to go up a little first.

I got my first Interview offer with Temple!
My stats:
MCAT 30
Science GPA 3.4
Overall GPA 3.55
I hope this provides some hope for those of you applying with lower than average stats (at least lower than I've seen anyone else post on this thread) like me. 🙂
Geek - have you heard back from them yet? I think we were complete around the same time and I havent heard a peep and thought I would have heard something by nowIt's cool. I got all confused for a second. It's actually closer to CC than Roxborough and Manayunk which are still part of Philly, too. 🙂

I think at my interview on Tuesday they said they were booked until December already.
Congrats on the interview!!
Just wondering if Temple has any student-run outreach clinics. On their website they definitely talked about preceptorships in the community, but I couldn't find anything about university-affiliated free clinics.
Maybe they shared something with you during your interview 🙂 ?
Thanks!

I know of one, it is called Temple CARES (Community Advocacy, Referral & Education Services) Student Run Clinic
Hey,
I'm a student at Temple, so if you have any questions, feel free to PM me.
There are several student run/involved clinics: mobile clinics, a new homeless clinic, Temple CARES, needle exchange. Temple is extremely active in North Philly and because we have quite possibly the best schedule ever, students can be extremely active (especially during 1st year).
Second, the area around Temple is mentioned negatively way too much on SDN. Most students live either in CC or the suburbs (I live near Drexel and drive 7 minutes every morning to school). I even know students who live near the school. If you're smart about your surroundings you'll be fine. I have never felt unsafe.
Finally, the neighborhood/area Temple is located in is a POSITIVE for medical students. You get to experience/see all sorts of amazing things while working in student run clinics/TU Hospital that you may not get to see as often in other areas. That's the draw of Temple - you get to serve and help this amazing population. They have limited access to resources and they need YOU!
Good luck during your interviews/this application season 🙂 Try not to stress! Again, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Sorry if you thought I was being negative that was not my intent.
Negatory, my friend. 🙁Geek - have you heard back from them yet? I think we were complete around the same time and I havent heard a peep and thought I would have heard something by now
Negatory, my friend. 🙁
i believe i was complete at around the same time as you guys. lol still "under review"
Negatory, my friend. 🙁
I saw your previous post, which you feared that your high stats may be preventing you from receiving interviews from "lesser" schools.
I can promise you that is not the case at least in Temple. One of my friends had a 3.9 and 40 from Yale (IS) and received an interview from Temple. Just wanted to let you know and address one of your concerns.

I've been under review for sooo loooong. 🙁
I went to a nice university in a "rough area" so that doesn't scare me away at all. I just want to hear something from them!

Thank you. 🙂 Truthfully, I would be honored to attend any of the schools I applied to. My concern is much more about Drexel, which I understand tends to be used as a safety school by a lot of people. I just hate the not-knowing, ya know?
