I'm interviewing on 9/16 GOOD LUCK 38R/3.87

Hi all!
I am thinking of adding Tufts to my AMCAS list of schools, but was wondering first what the secondary was like. What are the essay prompts? Is it very time-consuming?

Thank you.

The essays are "optional". I think one was is there anything in addition to your primary that you would like to add. Another prompt was
Do you consider yourself a person who would contribute to the diversity of the student body of Tufts University School of Medicine?
I kind of felt obligated to say yes and type an essay for that one.
I also believe theres an essay asking what you are doing during time off if not going straight to med school. I think all essays are 1000 characters limit. Not too time consuming.

Just got the interview invite today as well, I'll be interviewing on October 7th (I'll be hitting Dartmouth on the 5th that same week). Looking forward to it.

3.9/38S

Got the interview invite also on 8/27. 3.9/39Q.

Any of you plans to stay one night at a nearby hotel? Is Doubletree Downtown the nearest hotel? Is it safe to walk from the train station to the medical center?

Tufts Medical Center is in Chinatown. If you take the Green line to Boylston, its a 5 min walk. Don't bother switching to the orange line to get to the chinatown stop unless you are on that line to begin with. The two stops are literally one short block away from each other and the subway system is horrendous. During the day it is safe. Theres a lot of people outside and its right next to the financial district.

EDIT: If you're staying at the downtown doubletree, you're a five minute walk from the med center. In case you're talking about south station, you'll have to walk through chinatown. As long as you walking through there during the day, it's perfectly safe. I'd say maybe a 15 min walk.

Received "app complete" e-mail 8/26
Invited to Interview 8/27
3.9/36Q

My first interview invite yet! Has relieved a lot of anxiety about getting rejected from everywhere almost immediately.

Invited for interview 8/27

3.8 GPA / 38 MCAT

It seems to me the first wave of interviews only goes to sky-high-stat candidates. Is anybody on this board with MCAT below 35 even getting invited at this point? I really love Boston and would love to at least apply here if I think I have a slim chance. Seeing how they seem to be stat ****** is making me ambivalent about whether I should even waste money here.

I wouldn't be too worried. i think they want to interview "high in the sky" stats people first to establish a high MCAT average, and then they'll move to the lower stat kids later to balance things out.

If they get applicants with high stats who just apply a little later will they ever get to the lower stat applicants. - This is what I'm worried about.

Well, I'm basing it on the idea of "accepted students' average mcat scores"--if they're only interviewing kids with 35+, and they generally have an average of about 33...they're going to interview kids with lower stats eventually.

This is a legitimate concern especially for a relatively late applicant with average stats in this cycle like myself. The thing about Tufts is, I feel that many of their high stat acceptees will ultimately get admitted to multiple programs and decide to withdraw later in the season for another place with a more reasonable cost/quality ratio.

Yep

Still not complete here. AMCAS received LORs on the 25th. I hope Tufts update soon.

I am also still not complete at Tufts. AMCAS received my letters on Aug 11, and I submitted my Tufts secondary on Aug 26, so I'm not sure why the delay in getting my letters...

for those still worried about their less than stellar stats....I received an interview invite here with a 32Q, 3.7 GPA, so there's hope for all of you =)

I wouldn't worry about it. I submitted on the 10th and wasn't complete until the 25th. They're probably really busy.

How many people who apply here also apply to the Maine Track as well?

I got a Maine Track Invite last week, does anyone know how many OOS students are interviewed/accepted to the Maine Track? I am super enthusiastic about the program, and love the idea of doing my clinical years in Maine, but I worry that there will be very few OOS slots.

1. Did all of you get a "complete" email? I did not get one but the status says I am complete.
2. Did the status page change if you were invited for an interview??

My university switch email settings and now filters all mail and I have missed messages from other schools so I just want to make sure of this before I call and annoy the office.

Thanks!

Upon Certification, I received an email from Tufts admission stating:

We are contacting you to confim that all required documents for your
application to Tufts University School of Medicine have been received
and your Secondary Application is now considered complete. Selected
applicants will be invited to visit our school for personal interviews
between September and March. Student who are invited for interviews will
be notified by both email and by letter via US Post.

I also received email notification of interview invite and instructions to login to secondary website.

Nothing obvious changed upon login. Status was still "certified," if I clicked Status under "My Application" the most recent change is "application certified." However there's a "My Interview" tab along the left hand side of the window. Click, and then click "Interview" and dates were available to choose. As of today, the first available interview date is Sept. 14 and Tues/Thurs go through March, 2011.

Complete August 25th... no rejection, no invite (36/3.7). Are there ANY rejections yet?

Congratulations to everyone who has gotten interviews! I'm sure many of you who do not have interviews yet will receive invites over the next few weeks. Tufts is a great school and I know you will enjoy visiting us.

I am an M'13 at Tufts, so if anyone has any questions about the school, interviews, or getting around
Boston feel free to PM me. Good luck!

Thanks for the info! Congratulations on your invite!

Does anyone know if Tufts has a preferred mode of communication for update letters for new activities? Just started a paid clinical position, so I would definitely like to let them know...

Complete 9/9 by status. No email yet. They had had my LORs since late august. They may be sending a second batch of interviews soon (based on previous behavior). :xf: Good luck to all!!

 I read this as M13 and I was like 😱 I know med schools are getting big on the 5th year for research but damn, taking an extra nine years seems a bit over the top. 😛

Yeah I was looking at last year's thread and it seems like they send invites 1-3x per month (someone called and asked) and it was on fridays. Perhaps next friday there will be more invites? Perhaps one for me?😀

Okay so I thought I had been complete for AWHILE. I submitted on Aug. 18th and my letters were received by Aug. 26th. However, I received this email this morning...

Okay...so does this mean I was really only complete as of today and not earlier?? Waaaah 😱

Irish, I'm in the same disconcerting situation. I submitted 8/14, became complete by status on 8/31 and now I got the complete email this morning...I share the same sentiments lol

The same thing here guys. I have realized that the website updates for all these schools do not follow very closely the whole "application processing". What counts are the "official emails".

From what I can tell, people have been getting the invites for interviews within hours to a couple of days after receiving the email we just got. So ..I am sure we will be hearing something soon...Good luck!:luck:

Here's hoping.

I actually trashed the e-mail and went straight to the website since I knew I was complete 2.5 weeks ago. Silly system. Hopefully BrainBuff is right :luck:

Oh phew! I was thinking the same panicked thoughts this morning when I got that email (complete according to their website since 8/31). I'm so glad I can always count on SDN to discuss things I'm worried about 😀

I asked them the same thing and got this email:

"Dear Applicant,

You are welcome to send us updates for your file. Hard copy in the mail is best.

Our mailing address is:

Tufts University School of Medicine
Office of Admissions
136 Harrison Avenue
Boston, MA 02111"

Wasn't too much of a pain to write and send a letter to them...good luck!

How long did it take everyone for their committee letter to get downloaded?

I submitted my secondary over a week ago, and when I check status, it says that the letter still hasn't been received.

The letter was uploaded to AMCAS a long time ago and has been assigned to Tufts.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Good luck everyone!

Get ready to wait. It took about two weeks from the time AMCAS sent it to the time it showed up on my status.
