Got the complete e-mail on the same day so ouch... 🙁. Oh well, there's always the next batch... or the next next batch. Would definitely like to go to Tufts since I want to stay in the Boston area.

Did you get invite the 1st time around?

I did, but it was a very late interview, ended up on the waitlist.

I scheduled the same day! Maybe we'll bump into each other...

My stats are a little lower than what's been thrown out earlier

3.52 cGPA

but I did also apply to the MD/MPH program. Idk, maybe they saw something extra in me? Either way I'm pretty happy (also it's my birthday today...pretty good present 😀)
 
Interview invite! Tufts seems pretty fast: secondary submitted 8/30, got the complete email 9/14, interview invite 9/15.
 
I got a friend that applied to almost 20 schools and only got into Tufts and she also applied for MD/MPH... so I'm guessing that wanting an MPH makes an applicant more appealing to them somehow. Either that or you have amazing stats, which most of the interviewees seem to have so far.
 
I was wondering about taking a train in to the interview. Is it difficult to go from the Amtrak station to Tufts and how long of a commute is it from the station.

South Station, which is where Amtrak drops you off, is about a 10 mins walk to Tufts Medical... and that's assuming you walk like an old lady, on crutches, holding a child on each arm. So to answer your question... not long at all.
 
Where are you guys staying? Having a hard time booking anything with the "discount rate"

This is what I did last year: If you go to www.bostondowntown.doubletree.com and make your reservation using Corporate account # 02657456, you get a king non-smoking room for $99. Just print out the interview invite email to show them when you check in to validate the rate. It's technically for Residency interviews, but the hotel doesn't know the difference.

It's still not dirt cheap, but it's literally right next to the Med Center, a 2-3 minute stroll down the road and you're at the door of the school. I'm not sure if it still works, but I'll be trying later today and let you know.

Similar timeline with me. Interview scheduled for November, all October dates are gone now.

excited! signed up for the 11/16 date since i'm flying in from out of country. hoping to get some more invites soon!
 
I just interviewed here and it was great! For those of you looking for a place to stay, try getting in touch with student hosts. I stayed with one and found it to be extremely helpful. Plus, everyone I met was VERY nice.
 
New member! Joined a few minutes ago....I figured my first post should be here since I got the interview invite today 🙂

I can't wait! My friend just started Tufts this year and he LOVES it!

I got an invite also, complete 9/1. 🙂. I am thinking about flying in to boston-logan airport, can I take the bus then to south station? I think I will contact student hosts this being the fourth interview far away from my home it is getting pretty expensive to book these!!

If anyone else is going 10/12 let me know it would be nice to have someone to talk to 🙂

There are a couple options for getting to Tufts from the airport. You can either take the silver line to South Station and walk or take a cab from there (it's a 12-15 minute walk), or you can take the shuttle to the blue line (going inbound to Bowdoin), change to the orange line at State St (going inbound to Forest Hills) and get off at the Tufts Medical Center stop.

I work at Tufts Medical if anyone has questions about the surrounding area...

How expensive is the neighborhood around Tufts (in terms of rent)? Do the students generally live close to campus?

Well, if you're willing to live in Chinatown it's probably not that bad 😉 I don't know how close students generally live, but going either north or west of campus is going to put you in some VERY pricey neighborhoods (Beacon Hill and Back Bay, respectively; >$1000/month). Going south of campus, some areas of the South End aren't too bad price-wise (you're probably looking at more like $700-$800/month per person) - it's sort of an up-and-coming area that's getting a little more popular with the mid-20s age group. Getting too far south will put you into South Boston (different from the South End) and Dorchester, where the rent is less but it gets you into some sketchy areas, particularly in Dorchester. To get a better sense, you can try searching apartments on Craigslist in those areas.
 
Congrats to everyone with interviews!

I was hoping for some advice on update letters. Since submitted my AMCAS, i have started research at a Tufts affiliated hospital, volunteered at a hospital, promoted to a leadership position in an organization that provides medical care and basic needs to the homeless, and accepted as a tutor for medical, dental, and graduate students.

Would it be a good idea to send an update letter to Tufts, and other schools that ask for them on these new activities which I haven't really mentioned about previously? Or are those not significant enough...and update letters should only be used for things like new publications, awards, etc.? (I've heard some different things)

Anyone with good perspective on this issue? Thanks!
 
Anybody hear of any rejections yet? I was complete on 8/30 and no word yet. I also applied for Maine track. Do they read apps by order they were received or is it random? Thanks!

Hey guys, I received the following e-mail today (below), and my question is WHAT DOES THE AUDIT PROCESS entail? Someone asked a similar question last year, but it wasn't really answered.Does this mean that they just double check that you meet all the requirements and that your LOR's are in? OR does it mean that they actually VERIFY/check up on all your work/activities? Any insight would help! Thanks!

Your secondary application has been received and your application is currently entering the audit process.

Your online secondary application will show your letters of recommendation as having been received only after our staff has manually audited your application and manually updated your secondary application record.

Please note: this manual audit process cannot be completed until your AMCAS application has completed the verification process at AMCAS, because AMCAS does not transmit recommendation letters to us for unverified applicants. (Please refer to AMCAS to determine if your AMCAS application has been verified).

There is a brief but normal processing delay (usually not more than two weeks, but sometimes a bit longer during peak processing times) between the time you certify and submit your secondary application and the time your application is audited (and your online secondary record is manually updated).

As we receive many thousands of applications, we require and appreciate your patience.

i think it just means they need to download your letters and adjust your app to their system. not sure what else.

I see this way too often on SDN - don't over-analyze this. Do you know how long it would take if they verified the work/activities of every single person? Even if they did, what are you worried about?... All they are doing is checking you meet requirements and entering your LOR's into the system, as you said. No worries!🙂
 
Thanks Obliquity...I have been pretty good lately about keeping premed anxiety under control, but sometimes it sneaks back up on me. There's nothing I am "worried" about persay...it's more that I went to college a long time ago, and some of my "contacts" might not even know/remember me...so I am always worried that if they were to try to verify stuff...well you get the idea.

Congrats!!! Did you receive the invite via email or did you just check your status? I was completed around the same time, so just curious 😉

So when I first log into the Tufts secondary system, highlighted in green it says that my application is certified. Then when I click on the status option at the top it says application complete, however I never received an e-mail. Also, it shows that my letters have been uploaded. What do you guys think, am I still in the audit group or is it really complete??? I got my audit e-mail on 9/24.

I want an interview here bad!!
 
I just got an invite to Tufts....scheduled it early january, bc the only free dates were first tues/thurs of December, but I'm in school/taking finals on those days....so the next available dates were in January.

Just fyi for anyone wondering.

So jealous. 🙁 I would like an invite here too. The more chances of staying in Beantown, the better. Anyhow CONGRATS!!! ^_^ I haven't gotten rejected yet so there's still a chance.
 
Does anyone know when the interview day ends? I scheduled my bus at 6pm. I want to make sure I'll have enough time to finish up and get to the station. Thanks!
 
The email confirmation says that the interview day ends at 4:15pm 🙂

That should be fine, I was out the door by 4:30 (my last interview ran a bit long, most people had already left).
 
I just got an email from the director of admissions saying that they will be mailing out letters for those who were interviewed in September late next week. To all my fellow September interviewees, good luck guys!
 
Strange, I thought that usually the dean made acceptance calls? Perhaps they are switching to snail mail this year? I was really hoping to get a call on Friday!
 
Are only the acceptances for September interviews going out this Friday? I interviewed early in October and I'm wondering if its alright to hope just yet...

Everyone who interviews gets the email and a snail mail decision, but acceptances get the personal phone call too.

we were told on the interview day that we will be contacted on October 15th (today), but I got an e-mail few days ago that we will be mailed our decisions late next week..... I'm just waiting to see if they are going to send out e-mails today.

Nope, I've been obsessively checking my emails today. I only got the one that says we'll get something snail mailed late next week.
