seriously, this secondary is a beast! by far took the longest of any secondary so far.
submitted today, if i mail the OOS payment tomorrow they should receive it wed/thurs ... what is the timeline (for regular decision) once we are complete? does anyone know?

I read on the KUSOM webpage for applicants that the letters are not due until September 1st. Can anyone else verify that for me?
This cycle's deadline is August 15th for everything (secondary, letters, etc) =D.

The interviews for regular decision span from mid-October to mid-Feb =D

So, I think I just screwed myself this cycle. I didn't realize that I had marked the ED check box on my application when I submitted it. My score isnot high enough for ED so I am hoping they will just kick me to RD and not outright reject me. Sigh.....

Nope I'm pretty sure they will release you of ED at the end of August. Who knows they might even offer you an interview invitation for the earliest interview dates for RD =D

I sure hope so. Heck, at this point I'll be fine with being the last one interviewed as long as I get an interview.

On the plus side, my app was completed super fast! 😀

If you are applying to other schools, it may hurt you a bit by preventing you from applying early. If you're only interested in KU, it will probably help you because it ensures them that you only want to go to KU and you've got a chance to be guaranteed an early RD interview. And who knows, maybe you'll get an ED interview after all.

Yeah, KU is the only school I want to go to, so that part is cool. I am hoping they'll kick me back to RD and I get an interview,:xf: but an ED interview would be the icing on the cake. 😎

From what I understand, an ED interview is almost guaranteed acceptance, lol.

july2009 i think you long ago made up your mind, but i agree that you should retake. i think most invites to complete the secondary are automated and a score of less than 8 may get you weeded out. on the bright side just rock the VR and it doesnt matter what you get on the other two for KU at least (they consider the highest score of each section of all your attempts.)

bwstw never know.. i think the ED applicants get more careful consideration of things other than just numbers. and i agree that it may help you in RD (to show your special interest in KU) even if you don't get an ED interview.

i interviewed at a place last cycle (KCUMB) that supposedly accepted 85+% of their interviewees..and i'm here so.

goes without saying, but always do your best and don't count your chickens before they hatch. (that was an especially brutal rejection because it was so unexpected.)

Hey I hope everybody is staying cool in this heat!

I was wondering what you all are doing for #7? "As a student, what is unique or special that you would bring to KU School of Medicine?"

I was thinking of talking about my diverse work experience (horse vet, pizza place, landscaping, running live audio, RA, tutor) and my education in college being from a liberal arts college with a core curriculum, etc. Is this unique or special? haha I feel in some ways it is, but how unique is it really? thoughts?

Sounds good to me, I just wrote about how I am a technically inclined person (IT tech, comp sci minor, hobbies, etc).

I think that sounds good. Every experience you have has shaped you in some way and if you can build upon that I think you'll be good.

I'm still trying to figure out how I want to answer 1 - 10. 😀 I've had these questions, or something similar, for a year, but I don't like what I have down.

I have a question for you guys - what do you think " primary care medicine in community-based hospitals" means? Do you think this is similar to what a hospitalist does? Do you think it would include EM?

I'm trying to decide if I want to put Wichita as my #1 campus choice or not. I'm kinda torn between KC and Wichita.

Ha my favorite is probably #6. Describe your experiences facing or witnessing discrimination. Tell how you responded and what you learned from these experiences and how they have prepared you for your future in medicine.- likethere are four points they want you to touch on in 1000 characters, how do you do that? haha

I think that means that over all, the objective will be to create docs for primary care while still giving the experience in everything else. I put Wichita as my #1 and I'm thinking about Salina as my #2.

Yeah, they are pretty interesting questions. I like "Tell how you have made your community a better place to live."
Me - "ummm.... I recycle?"

Yeah, My interests right now are EM and IM. Not sure on IM quite yet, but I kinda like the thought of being a hospitalist. I don't want to pick Wichita and limit myself to primary care because I'm not really interested in that. But man it would be so nice to not have to travel 3 hours every week.

Haha, "my existence makes my community better"

I think we would get similar/equally good training in Wichita.... just with that focus on Primary Care. I think they are going to make sure everyone gets solid education/med school experiences.

 so true! 😉

I agree. I know the first two years are just basic sciences, and I was planning on transferring down here for 3rd and 4th year anyway. So I guess I just convinced myself to pick Wichita. 🙄

Plus it sounds like we can change our preferences until March, so I think we're good. Now we just have to get in...

I think they want to train you to be a family physician and to work someplace like the Wichita Clinic. Just from some googling, primary care doesn't technically include emergency medicine even though it is first-response, but they would probably offer internal medicine, pediatrics, and gynecology, if not more.

How many LOR does KU usually consider optimal? Is 5 too much?
Surprisingly quiet here...
Anyhow, they say 3-5, so 4 is probably optimal, but I'd recommend 4 or 5. On the one hand, you don't want to look like you're just meeting the requirement with 3, but I also heard they don't want to read a stack so you don't want to overwhelm them with 6.

lol I've been battling spywares lurking in my comp. Anyway, I believe 5 is optimal. In the email and secondary they say they'd prefer 5. A couple more weeks and the next part will start lol

I'm the kind of person who needs school to keep busy or I go insane :scared:

Haha fair enough.

Submitted the secondary today, definitely not as stressful as hitting the button on my AMCAS... "yeah, I will send updates or corrections via e-mail if anything's wrong.......click"

Well, I am putting the final touches on my secondary and will be submitting it this week. I hope I'm interesting enough to get an interview.

Nice work, I'm sure you're interesting enough though. They basically give all instaters an interview, right? I mean, I'm buying a suit tomorrow so they better haha

lol I hear they are pretty generous with their instate interviews. I hope the rumblings are true!

Goodluck buddy! When I saw the name for the first time, I thought it stood for buffalo wing stew lol. BTW, I got the file completion status today and we'll find out in a few weeks lol

Lol that's funny. Thanks and good luck to you too!

Nice!

I'm still waiting on letter writers, they've had all summer.... I need those letters!!!

How annoying. Here's to hoping they hurry up!

Any word on when RD interview invitations start?

Already? Fast! lol. I had to wait a month for that lol. Maybe they all were waiting for you to submit =D.

Where does it say that your file is complete? Or did you get an email?

It would be the secondary status page =D

Hmm, I've had everything in since July 13th and I'm not complete yet... wonder what is going on.

They were on the edge of their seats with anticipation. :meanie:
I've had my LOR in since the beginning of July so I think that helped. I wonder if they are getting completed faster now that the deadline is next week?

It is on the bottom of the MEDS page.

Are all of your letters in?
