I was waitlisted last year and just got waitlisted again this year. Considering that I improved my application significantly, I am a bit confused. I don't understand what this school wants. Going down the list of what they want to see from their applicants (http://www.med.wayne.edu/admissions/preparing/index.asp), I can say that I fulfill most of what they are asking for. My gpa is a 4.0, and I have a 30 Q. To top it off, I had a great letter from a distinguished chairman at their medical school (I did research for him for months). I don't believe it was my interview because it went pretty well. On the brighter side, I was already accepted to MSU CHM 🙂. However, it would be nice to be able to choose between Wayne and MSU because I still believe that Wayne has many strengths. I guess I will have to wait.
If you have a 4.0 and a 30 and didn't get in last year, your problem aren't your stats. And if you're getting interviews, it's probably not your LORs or ECs. It's probably your interviewing skills. Have you done mock interviews?
Besides, the interviewer does their best to present you to the committee, but they do not have the only say. So even if the interviewer likes you, someone on the committee might see a red flag in your app. Don't try to figure out the system...just do your best and try again next year if you don't get in somewhere! Good luck and congrats to everyone who was recently accepted!
