How do you know where you are ranked on the waitlist? They wouldn't tell me.

I think the letter thing said that they'd decide where everyone is on the waitlist later (like march or april or something?) and let us know.

I know that's what they said but in the post above the person said they knew they were ranked low on the waitlist already so I was wondering how they got the information that they were ranked low.

That person is referring to last year. He/she is an M1 at BSOM currently.

Anyone here of a second look? I sure wouldn't mind heading back to dayton to check it out again.

Oh I think that person actually goes to Wright State already so they would have found out like last year

Lol, yeah that was me last year. I didn't find out until they sent out the official wait list rankings. They will not give you any info about that now... probably because it is not yet completed. As long as they are still interviewing, there's still potential waitlist people.

smashweights,
did u ever ask to see your file to see why you were waitlisted? from my perspective you had above average stats and experiences.

To those of you asking about an official second look day, there isn't one. Or at least there wasn't last year. I called the admissions office (or perhaps it was email) and they set me up with some second year students that gave me a private tour.

I met with Dr. Peterson, Dean of Admissions, after I was waitlisted and I'm still not entirely sure what the rationale was. He said one of my interviewers commented that I could use more hospital experience (though, some of my BSOM friends had less with lower scores). He was very vague and at least once mentioned that with my application I "should be getting in somewhere." I think the waitlisting itself was because I applied/interviewed late (2nd in oct, interview dec). But as far as being low ranking, I'm still perplexed.

Interview invitation 1/27!!! 😀

Scheduled for 2/16, anyone else going to be there next Wednesday? It seems like there are only two interview dates left after that (2/22 and 2/23), so I'm feeling a little nervous that there won't be any spots left for being accepted (especially after seeing so many December interviewees get WL'd :lame:)!!

TBH, this is also my first interview. It seems like it's a great match for the nervous first-timer because they're not going to intensely grill you under the bright lights! Still, are there any hints, tips, tricks, or anything anyone who's a student there now, or who interviewed and has been accepted can provide? I'm pretty comfortable generally in pressure situations and talking to professors and other students about medicine and other things...but it never hurts to prepare!

Right now, I'm working on my 1-minute answers to all the basics (why do you want to be a doctor, what would make you a good doctor, why WSU, how would you fit in/bring diversity to our incoming class, how has [insert experience here]/what experiences influenced you to take this path, etc.), but I'm always worried about those off-the-wall questions! Someone mentioned being asked what three possessions would they save from their room -- I would be so lost!! I'm also a little worried about having to discuss any shortcomings in the GPA/grades department in some of the classes I've taken (http://mdapplicants.com/profile.php?id=21577). I don't really have a good answer to the question: "I see that you got X in OChem II or struggled with these particular non-science classes, what happened?" (mainly because if I told the truth on some, I'd be blaming professors for being horrible at administering their own classes -.-'). And what kinds of questions did you come prepared to ask? I want to seem interested in knowing more the school, but not look like I don't know anything about it.

Anyway, hope some 2/16 people are still cruising SDN!!

smashweights,

i think when all else seems okay (letters, extracurriculars, mcat and gpa), it all depends on what your interviewers say about you that puts you on the stand-by list.

40megafronzies,

i was asked all those general questions you're rehearsing. the interviews are pretty stress-free. just be honest and be yourself. as for questions regarding your weak points in your app, I had a few of those and took that as an opportunity to explain the reasons for and how i overcame them.

hope that helps. good luck!

Decisions mailed for 12/15 interviewees! Just checked my status it is dated 2/10 so should be arriving soon!

I'm still kicking myself for how badly I blew the interview there in September! 🙁
Does anyone know when the waitlist will begin moving?

Hey Guys,
I interviewed on Jan 4th and I just got my acceptance letter today!!! Soooo excited! I was super impressed with this program when I interviewed. I think it is pretty likely that I will be going to this school! YAY!!!!!! I'm not sure if I will be considered in state or out of state.

i am wait listed at toledo as well. that's about it though. you?

Does anyone know roughly when they inform us of our placement on the waitlist?

i was an early decision applicant and so only applied to WSU. I thought it would be too late in the cycle to apply elsewhere after i was released. i really hope i get in this year. i applied EDP because of family committments (i'm married with two kids).

i really wish we can start a new thread for those on the stand-by.

ugh! i hear ya! this is my FOURTH year applying to med school! i have been wait listed every year. i applied to DO for the first time this year and got in. so now i know i have a back up. 4 years to try and get into med school is agony.

we should start a wait list thread. but by the looks of it, it seems this thread is turning into a wait list thread. 🙂

hope we hear good news! i'm married, but no children. so hang in there!

i think we should hear something by april. i was just wondering if anything can help to keep me on the waitlist. but i get differing opinions on that. the admissions office said that once you've been presented in front of adcom, you are ranked and that will determine your place on the waitlist (if any). I guess this is the only fair way to do it.

If i'm not mistaken, there is a set date by the AAMC where you can only hold a seat at one medical school, but I can't recall the date. I believe WSU sent their wait list rankings info shortly after this date passed last year.

Waitlisted as well....... OOS. I guess all 10 OOS spots were all taken

after the last interview batch is reviewed and notified of their status, the students on the stand-by are reviwed and ranked based on the rating they received from adcom. these students will be notified of their status as soon as the list is made, but acceptances will not be sent out until after May 15th, unless some students withdraw earlier.

i'm just wondering if more preferance is given to IS students on stand-by. a student from WSU also told me students that interviewed early who are on stand-by have a better chance of acceptance...is that true?

right, once they are done interviewing and have sorted all the stand-by names, they will send out their top/middle/bottom third rankings but no acceptance letters will come until May 15th. I don't think they even got the wait list rankings out until almost May 15th last year, but I could be mistaken. I have no idea how IS/OOS is factored into the wait list rankings.

Does anyone else have to make a decision between here and Toledo? Just curious about what is swaying you one way or the other, or if you know of any significant differences between the two

I liked the facilities and the vibe at WSU better. Just felt more at home!

I have some friends who live in Toledo, and UTCOM has their own hospital...but I don't know if either of these are things that really matter much.

thoughts?

well, some of don't have the luxury of having to chose between two schools....i only applied to one and am on the stand-by....but, i can say WSU seems like a great school and i felt at home there during my interview....so if you want to feel at home, stay with WSU. As far as the University Hospital is concerned, that would only help you if you don't want to do rotations at various different hospitals....and most importantly, if you really want to leave a spot for a waitlistee at WSU, then feel free to go to Toledo..congratulations on your acceptances and good luck with your medical career.

Thank you, I know that I am fortunate...I feel like the 2 schools are very similar and suspect there are others who may be in the same situation. Just want to make sure I make the right decision.

Best of luck to you, I hope things work out in your favor over the coming months.

Bitter much?

IMO, you will get a better variety of experiences working with the multiple hospitals affiliated with Wright State, you can get a glimpse of what a VA hospital is like, what the ritzier miami valley south or kettering hospitals, or places like Good Samaritan that are in the lower-income areas of town or Wright Patterson AFB.

But then again, never been to another school nor done any rotations, so take this as a grain of salt.

Just got my official rejection (pre-interview)

Good luck to everyone else!

Just got rejected today pre-interview. I hope everyone that matriculates to Wright enjoy.

Rejected pre-interview. But I have an interview at Ohio State on 3/23. I a man undergrad there so needless to say I'm pumped. Wish I had at least gotten an interview at WSU just to see what they're all about.

If possible could a current medical student at Wright provide some ideals to housing?

Sure there's lots of locations near campus to live, depending on your size needs and how much you want to pay. I know some med students end up staying at Ashton Brook or Wexford on the Green. But there's also the Lofts, the Promenade, Channingway, Fieldstone, or the Properties at Wright Field. Personally, I would avoid anything on Zinc Rd. or anything "on campus" to avoid the undergraduates.

Hey ya'll - I interviewed Jan 19th and apparently decisions have been mailed so keep an eye out for something in your mailboxes!
