Doesn't hurt, just send one in via e-mail. I don't know how our admissions office views them, but I got an interview invites from Temple and VCU once I mentioned I was in the area for my Albany interview. Haven't tried it the other way around, Albany was my first.

Im flying from California to Albany, but I heard it is too much of a reach to mention in the area to surrounding states like PA and Virginia etc. What does everyone else think?

Albany's website says this

When will I know whether I am invited to interview?
Once your application becomes complete, it is sent to the Admissions Committee for screening (review). The screening outcome may place you in one of three categories: interview, hold, no interview. All communication regarding interview status will be made by email. Once an application has become complete, the screening process takes between one and two weeks. Our screening process begins in August and continues through March
.

Does that mean if you still have not heard back and you were complete in July/August that you can assume you are in the 'no interview' category? I.e is "hold" better than not hearing back at all?

I wouldn't say so. I was complete back in early/ mid August and I just got an II a few days ago.

This process is ridiculously random. Things like having a slow reviewer can change everything. I'm just telling myself that there's still hope untill I read a rejection email. Other than that I just sit and wait.... painful as that is.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll hear something soon. 🙂

Anyone who has had an interview: Can you tell me about it. What is the plan for the day? Structure of the actual interview?

We got there at either 8:15 or 11:15, waited until 9 (got to know the other applicants while eating the breakfast foods that were provided), had either 1 or 2 interviews (if 2 interviews one was with a student) each lasting about an hour. I felt the interviews were very laid back, they were open file, my interviewer had prepared notes on my file and specific questions to ask or details he wanted to know more about. I felt he was genuinely interested in getting to know more about me beyond what was on my application. In response to the SDN interview feedback, I did not have any difficult ethics questions, and neither did most people in my group!

After the interviews is lunch with both interview groups together, and then split up again for the tour of the facilities. After that we were free to go!

just gave up my early nov. interview spot, hopefully it will go to one of you waiting for an invite!

My interview is october 26. Is that late for an interview? I want to make sure My chances of getting in are good here. I know my stats are above their avg, and i have good ecs and LORs but im not sure how many spots will be open after my interview. Any input?

Any interview before the new year is a very good sign. Even if after the new year, many places accept a good amount of those interviewees. You're definitely not interviewing for a WL spot or something of that nature.

DUDE YOUR INTERVIEW IS ON OCTOBER 26th! YOU WILL BE FINE.

Hi all,

I payed Albany in early Sept. I have no records of receiving a "complete" email from them. Do they send these?

What do you recommend doing?

Thank you!

Here's the info from a current MS a page back:

After your interview, the admissions committee rates you and assigns you a numerical score. The interview season starts off with a high score needed to gain outright admission (say, 4.5 for example). Anyone below that outright admission score, but within a certain range (say 3.5 - 4.5) will be placed on active consideration for an admission spot. Anyone below that active consideration range will be rejected.

Throughout the interview season, the cutoff score for admissions will be lowered as needed (e.g. from 4.5 to a 4.2) to fill the class. After May 15, most people on the active consideration list will be moved to an official waitlist, while the rest will be rejected.

Hope that makes sense. Note the above information isn't official at all, just stuff I've heard from past classmates.

I did some admissions stuff when I was there and this is basically how it worked. You have an equal chance of acceptance no matter when in the year you interview for AMC. Back in the day I interviewed in late March and got in.

Has anyone been complete for over 2 months and not heard anything from them yet (rejection, hold, or interview)?

I had been complete for about 2 months, and I just got an interview! :woot:

I'm sure you guys are fine don't sweat it yet.

Best of Luck!

Congrats digitalsea. I submitted a little month ago. do we get complete email or just by status check?

Thanks for the positive vibes! Good luck in your interview.

Thank you! I am really excited about this school, and not just because JD from scrubs is based on an Albany graduate lol

I think you have to check your status. I checked my inbox and couldn't find any complete emails from them, so I am assuming that they only do status checks until they invite you.

Does anyone know how long it takes to get from the Amtrak station to the medical school building via taxi? Is it easy to get a taxi from the station?

I was complete by mid September, didn't receive my interview invite until early January. Albany's getting through their more favorable candidates first, just like any other school. You just have to wait and see.

you're an albany student now?

Yah, MS-I.

BTW try calling Capitalland Taxi in advance before you arrive at the Amtrak station and ask for a taxi by your arrival time. If you ask the dispatcher in the station, it might take them a while to get a taxi there. Cost will be around $15 to AMC.

Probably a not-so-useful update for most of you, but everyone's always looking for a "when should I see some sort of an update?":

If your secondary hasn't been processed yet (last line says "no" even though everything has been received), they're running aboot this speed (on mine at least): I submitted Oct 15, they said it looks like they'll get to mine in a few days.

So...my question in turn is...does this mean they're gonna reject/offer interview/put me on hold, OR does this mean that the only "action item" on their part is to change the "no" for "application complete and in review" to a "yes", and then there's additional time for the reject/offer interview/put me on hold? (For those of you who are ahead of me in this process, please let me know how it went for you)

Oh, I grew up in Albany about 8 minutes from AMC, so if you have any questions about the area or need help finding somewhere to stay the night, PM me.

Mine has been "yes" since September 14 and I have not gotten interview, hold or rejection. No news at all 🙁

So I interviewed 10/6 and they told us decisions would be made end of Oct/early Nov and I just remembered that adcoms meet on Tues. Maybe today's the day!? My inbox has been real lonely these past few weeks.

No complete email received but I submitted my secondary late August. Just got a "Hold" email today... sigh. Below is the email:

"Your application to the Albany Medical College has been placed in the
"Hold" category.

As we review applications, we inevitably find that the number of
qualified applications exceeds the number of applicants that we are
able to interview. From an applicant pool of approximately 10,000
candidates, roughly 600 will be invited to interview. Screening is
done on an ongoing basis as applications become complete. Therefore,
in some cases a final screening decision is temporarily deferred. If
over the course of the admissions season we find that too few
candidates were initially invited to interview, we will turn to the
"Hold" category and invite selected applicants to interview.

As a reminder, we do not accept updates or letters of interest sent
to us via fax, "regular mail", or email to supplement the required
documents to complete your file. Unsolicited updates that are sent to
our office will not be added to your file, nor will they be
acknowledged. We will contact you if the Admissions Committee
requests updated information.

We will continue to keep you informed about the status of your
application. Should you have any questions, please feel free to
contact us at (518) 262-5521."

I haven't received a hold e-mail but I'm expecting it any day now...I can feel it coming

People who just got put on hold, when were you complete? Thank you!

This gives me hope for other schools as well. It's sad when you're actually interested in a school and they invite people that consider them a safety for the first few months. I've even heard people say that they have minimal interest in a school with which they are interviewing! :lame: (this is particularly upsetting when you hear it with your state schools that haven't invited you yet).

does anyone remember when they said they would release their first acceptances?

thrilled to have an interview invite here! Anyone else having serious difficulties with this photo upload situation? Any help much appreciated! +pissed+
