I was also updated 12/16. Do you think it's worth the time to call and ask what is going on with one's application?

Honestly, it might have been a system wide update. I also was update on 12/16, but I interviewed on the 4th, so unless I got fast tracked...unlikely, I'm banking on it just being a system thing

I got a status update as well...hadn't had one since my interview 11/18

We interviewed the same day! I hope to hear something in the next couple weeks, although I feel like I'll probably be rejected or WL'd. Praying for better news, though! :xf:

Just sent an update letter yesterday and received an email from the adcom that it was added to my file. Looking forward to an interview invite hopefully 🙂 . My status shows it was last updated 12/16, whatever that means...

As did I, friday the 13th doesn't scare me!

Are you going to stay for the dutch dinner thing?

Dutch what now? Haven't heard anything about it...what is it? And I haven't booked my plane ticket yet thankfully, so ill consider it! 🙂

I would recommend going to the dinner. I went with my host and there were several current MSI students there. It was really helpful getting their views on the school and was actually a lot of fun.

do you have any more info on it? how long does it go?

I only found out about it from my host. When I went it was at a restaurant in downtown Omaha. It probably lasted a couple hours but people were free to come and go so some people stayed longer than others.

I didn't go to the dinner, my host said we could go if I wanted but he thought it wasn't really worth it. We went to the Creighton basketball game instead. I did have plenty of time/students to talk to during my interview day though.

Hey, I would totally recommend that you go to the dinner. It doesn't affect your interview obviously, but I know a good deal of the M1s there and they are awesome people. Just meeting them would give you a good idea whether you would be a good fit at Creighton.

are both interviews open file?

yes they are, although it's really up to you as to what you want to emphasize and talk about during the interview. In the limited time that you have with each interview just really focus on your strengths, and if asked be truthful about what your weaknesses are!

Anyone know the stats with number interviewed and accepted?

Hi guys,
What is the grading scheme during the first two years?
Thanks,

Hey, it's honors, pass, fail.

First day the school has been open since the break! Anyone hear awesome news???

Oh ya, and I just called the school office for admissions. Not supposed to go to committee until the 24th of January, interviewed on Dec 3rd, anyone else have them get back to you earlier than projected. All the waiting is killing me.

Any interview day tips?

Be yourself! It sounds obvious, but if there is any place you want to be yourself, it's here. The interviewers want to get to know you and truly find out if you would be a good fit at creighton. Best wishes!

Hey phnerd, I had an awesome response typed up yesterday, but then my wifi went out when I tried to post, I got mad, turned the computer off, and decided to get back today.
This one is going to be a bit more brief.

Basically, Creighton wants to have a simple conversation with you. Two interviews, 30 minutes each. It is super chill. I was asked the usual questions, such as why medicine, strengths/weaknesses, and an ethical question of some sort.

I did get 2 weird questions, "what is on your ipod and how does this describe you as a person," and "which character from harry potter would you be, and how does this describe your skills as a future doctor."

Nothing too scary, it's a fun day, usually very good lunch is served. I know a good deal of the M1s there, and they all love it. Good Luck!

Does anyone know when they decide whether to put you in Omaha or Phoenix?

I would think that you would find out earlier than between first and second year. Seems to me that people would want to know if they should buy a condo or house in Omaha if they were going to be there for 4+ years. I'm pretty sure that you put in your preference when you commit to going to Creighton, then they sort it out for you. You obviously wouldn't get sent to Phoenix if you request to stay in Omaha.

I got the "Ninja or Pirate" question mahaha! I thought that was kinda funny.
I would've loved the iPod one!

Thank you so much! That definitely made me feel a lot better. I've heard quite a bit on how the day is relaxed, and to just enjoy it as much as I can. Those sound like awesome questions haha, I'll definitely think of answers to those. 🙂

I'm also staying for the dinner on Friday, and am really excited about meeting some of the students! Did you stay for it?

Ha, actually I stayed way past my interview date. I went to undergrad there, so I stayed with friends. It's funny, because I did not know too much about the dinner arrangements. I went out with some buddies in town for dinner and by chance showed up at the same place as the creighton deal. Everyone looked like they were having a great time, and the students there I knew are awesome ppl. You should definitely go.

Just called the admissions office to see if there were any updates. Interviewed 11/18, was told decisions would be out in 4-6 weeks. Now on the latter end of that time, was told it would be at least another week and a half.

Anyone know why Creighton is ranked so low? I am excited to be accepted here as it was a GREAT interview experience and I think I would really enjoy it at Creighton. My HPSP contact even stated that of all the schools he's had students go to, Creighton students are consistently the most happy.

That said, it concerns me that they are ranked so low. Will this make residency apps more difficult (especially if I decide to go for more competitive specialties)? I have other, more highly-ranked options... but Creighton seems like such a nice school in a decent (albeit quiet) location.

Many of the rankings are based on NIH funding for research. Creighton is not a big research school so they inherently get less NIH funding compared to many of the more research oriented schools. I have heard that while the ranking is lower, Creighton still matches very well with 60-70% getting their first choice and an even higher preferred specialty match rate. This match rate should be more telling about the quality of the school than the rankings.

I never know what to think about the match numbers that school spout around. A lot of those numbers can be the result of good counseling encouraging students to not rank "reach" residencies in their match.

Yup, apparently the admissions office has a bit of a back up going on with all the holidays lately.

I'm not sure why Creighton is ranked low. I would agree with the research funding. I have asked pretty much every doctor here in Washington that I have met what they thought of the the school and it was very highly regarded. That was one of the reasons I went there for undergraduate.

I usually try to not think about schools in terms of what their rankings are. In my experience, it all depends on how much effort the individual is willing to put into his or her education. That self driven effort and desire to learn can do a heck of a lot more than the ranking of an institution.

My understanding is that those of us accepted initially (i.e., never waitlisted) will find out before May 15 so that we can make decisions based on that (in part). Alternate acceptees will have a separate drawing sometime during the summer. (I would guess late summer/around orientation time.) At least that's what we were told at my interview date.

I also agree that the ranking has to do with the research funding. Creighton is a small school to begin with and they also don't seem to push research as much as other schools. Therefore, their ranking will be lower. Creighton has no problem matching students into competitive specialties - from the match lists, they consistently place students in ROAD specialties each year.

I need advise. I got accepted at Creighton and Rosalind? Which school prepares you better for USMLE? and which school matches more in California? Your input will be highly appreciated. Thanks

I wish I had gotten questions as awesome as those! Though both my interviews were generally pretty awesome.

I am! Will you be staying with a host or going to the Dutch dinner?

Both! Still waiting on hearing from my host, however. Though, I'm pretty excited for the dinner! I heard its a great time 🙂 What about you?

Both as well, although I might have to leave the dinner early for a track meet. We are supposed to hear back from the hosts on Tuesday according to the email I received.

They actually sent out offers over the break. My acceptance was signed and postmarked Dec. 23. I received it Dec. 28.

Hope some of you got the news you've been waiting for!
