Called admissions yesterday to ask about my status and left a message. A super nice woman called me back this morning and said my application was being reviewed for their last round of interviews to be sent out in mid-February. So there is still hope for those of us under review! I was complete all the way back in August. I'd love to get an interview here!

Thanks for the update/clarification/hope... lol 🙂

Good luck

Hey everyone. This is my first time checking/posting on this thread so I apologize if this is the 100th time someone has asked this...

I've been complete since June/Julyish. I haven't heard a single thing from Creighton. Do they "silently reject"? It just seems so strange to not have heard anything.

Unfortunately this is the same scenerio for 11 other schools I have applied to :scared:

THey apparently sent out a bunch of pre-interview rejections in December, so apparently they do indeed.

I haven't heard either way also, so I sent an update letter etc last week. They are open to that.

I don't think they do. I have heard nothing since the secondary from a few schools I applied to as well. Seems like if I took a couple hours to fill out their forms, they could atleast crush my aspirations in a concrete manner.
In other news, I go up for comittiee tomorrow...Holy Snchnikes.

Ahhhh :luck:. Hope you hear good news soon! Did they tell you when you would go to committee? I think all they told us was that we would hear in 6-8 weeks 🙁

Ya, a little bird has informed me. Its getting up around the 8 week mark for my interview date, Dec 2. It will make my entire year if I hear yes this week some time :xf:

I interviewed Dec 2 as well, just checked online, and my LOR are missing!

Agreeeeeed.

and good luck!

When you say missing, do you mean there is nothing listed where they used to be? I still have LORs listed under my file...Uh Oh Spaghettios

Yes, they're gone now, so judging from previous posts, I should be hearing their decision sooner rather than later!

Mine vanished today within the last hour! Gimme some love Creighton! I love this school and would go in a heartbeat!

Mine too, I am calling first thing tomorrow morning, and if I get in I am going straight to the local pub to celebrate

I may or may not have checked my status just in case, even though I only interviewed two weeks ago 🙄. LORs still there

Good luck everyone! :luck:

It certainly is! I love the school and the city. Not to mention, my best friend got into dental school there, and I'm gonna need all the moral support I can get for school/someone to split rent with.

Accepted! 3.96 28R mcat woot woot

YAYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!! Congrats !!!!!

Congrats! I should call, but I'm neurotic as hell, and I have to go to class :scared:

Congrats to everyone who got in today! Guess I'll be seeing you all next year 😀

So are you knee deep in tequila shots and amber lager or what? 😉

Lol, one could say so. I was surprised by how many people go to the bar on fridays at 10 am. It was good because I was worried I'd be the only one there 😀

alternate list.... wtf....

OOS/student at Creighton 38Q 3.8+ gpa an outstanding resume that would make you s*** bricks with tons of ECs and 3 different research experiences spread over the past 3 years.

Am I bitter? Of course, considering that this was my top choice school......

I don't know what went wrong considering my interviews were just fine, and we had pretty deep discussions about things 🙁

Sorry to hear 🙁 Sounds like they might have thought you were too good for them! They probably assumed you'd go somewhere else with those stats. I wonder if a letter of intent would help?

This. They probably thought they were your safety and that you were too overqualified for them. A letter of intent would definitely help, since it's your top choice. Good luck! :luck:

If you portrayed anything similar to what's bolded above, I'd say that's why you're on the alternate list at a school with a 30 as their average MCAT.

How would I even go about phrasing this letter? Who would I even send it to?
I wanted to come here since before undergrad even. I don't know how I feel about these types of letters because I feel like I'd be begging someone to let me in. Not to mention I'd like to go to med school with students in my own class/major who I know are going to med school here.

I would send it directly to Dr. Quinn. Just talk about things that you liked about the school, why you think you are a good fit, and how both you and the school can benefit from your attendance. It's not begging, you're just showing your interest. Most schools waitlist candidates because they aren't sure the candidate wants to go there, and don't want to give them an acceptance spot outright.

However, don't state that you want to go because you know people here. I would phrase it more in a way that your experience there in undergrad and from talking to people you know has led to your intent on matriculating if accepted.

Well, I do have connections with quite a fewdepartments both in undergrad and the medical school/med center simply becauseI've worked in all of them :\
I talked to the gal at the desk, and she said that the letter will highlightareas of improvement/why you weren't accepted. Once I get that then I guess Ican talk to G. Jarmon about it. I'll see after that....

Ugh.... THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING! so much for my nerves subsiding. I swear,I'm gonna have the heart of a 70 yo after this application process.

Congrats on everyone else getting in! I hope to see you on the acceptanceside of things! Anyone who would like to contribute more advice, I wouldgreatly appreciate that 😛

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I know of many ppl who were alternate listed last year and then went on to get accepted. Creighton is different, inthat they love service oriented people who have a genuine interest in medicine as well as the well being of others. I would say that they value those real qualities of care and compassion as much or more than absolute grades &test scores.

I took a gamble with my application, and arguably I should have retaken the mcat. I've described the situation elsewhere, but basically due to prettysad/frustrating family situations, my Junior year was a mess. In addition to that, I thought that I had changed my date for the mcat by pushing it into the summer, but as it turns out the transaction did not go through so I had about 7-10 days to study for and take the mcat right after finals my junior year.

I basically made the executive decision this last year to devote 30 hours aweek to volunteer at a local soup kitchen as well as a two night per week volunteer position in a local emergency room instead of retaking the test. My reasoning for staying home was that my younger brother was diagnosed bipolar-schizophrenic, and I wanted to be at home to be a positive role modeland friend for him. I attached my essay about the situation if anyone is interested as a reference

Wakeboarder, I'm sure if you express your intent, Creighton will strongly consider you

Wakeboarder - I remember responding to a post about your UNMC interview and reading your posts here makes me think that maybe (this is a hunch please don't take offense) you might not be portraying the type of physician that the interviewers are looking for or having trouble expressing your interest in the school/guiding the conversation to your areas of strength. Are you able to convey your compassion, give a specific reason of why medicine/physician not a nurse/PA, etc.? You say you have a ton of ECs and research, but depending on what all they are committees might have trouble seeing what you intend to be your path or your goals. One also has to make sure that they don't just have great stats but have had humbling experiences (and acknowledge that they that just didn't do things to put them on a resume) that have helped them to better understand the varying levels of the human condition and how they could potentially connect with future patients. I like to think that conversation/interviews is one of my strong points due to my background so feel free to PM me and good luck with future interviews

I read your story over in pre-allo....I just want to say congrats, and that it's simply inspiring 🙂 As someone with extremely average stats but amazing ECs, I know how frustrated you must have been. Glad you finally got in, especially into a school like Creighton!

I sent a letter of intent right after my interview. There was a question during my interview that I felt I had insufficiently answered, so I used the letter to address that. I talked about how the values Creighton promotes will make me a better doctor and how I already practice those values in my life. I also straight up told them that Creighton is my number one choice and I would attend if accepted. Sure, it might sound like begging, but I couldn't see myself at anywhere but Creighton, and I wanted to make sure that they saw how well I fit their school.

I really do think that Creighton looks for people who fit their school. That's what it felt like at the interview. They mentioned multiple times that the interview day was a day where the interviewer and the interviewee evaluate whether or not the student belongs there. Because you got waitlisted and because you don't have a problem with numbers or ECs, then it's probably because they didn't see you as good of a fit as someone else. Write a letter to tell them why you are a good fit. The waitlist isn't ranked - do whatever you can to help yourself, even if that includes a letter that practically amounts to begging.

Edit: What are your ECs by the way? Creighton probably also judges on the type of EC and what you got out of it as opposed to simply how many you did and for how long. I only really had 3 ECs throughout my undergrad years, but I did all of them since freshman year. Even though I didn't participate in much, I got a lot of experience out of it.

I addressed my letter to the committee and send it through the general med school email. I feel like if you send it directly to one person, it might get lost, so just send it the regular email. It'll probably end up with Ms. Lamb and she'll process it for you.

Just read your story as well, and I'm proud to call you a future classmate! Persistence pays off! This was my second time applying, so I sort of understand what you went through (two cycles and 3 MCATs later...)

Sounds like we have the makings of a pretty epic class.

Surprised to see I haven't been rejected yet. Last updated 12/16. February is almost here...

Yay! Anyone else get the second look email?

I think I'm going to both to see how things are in AZ, too!

Got it too. Wish I could make it! Let us know what you think about the AZ campus. I don't have the time and money to make it out there but I did choose Phoenix for my clinical campus.

congrats to all acceptances! So jealous of the security you must all be feeling. I was hoping for some advice at this point, I was wait-listed this month and immediately sent a letter of intent to Dr. Quinn, and asked what I can do over the following months to make my file more competitive for the next review. He told me that he was very impressed by my service and shadowing experience, but that I needed to better my academic stats to be more competitive. I have a 27S MCAT, 3.7 GPA Spanish major. He suggested a retake, and perhaps a couple upper level bio classes. However, he admitted that this would be difficult with the more-than-full-time job I currently hold (serving for AmeriCorps for medically underserved, under contract about 50 hrs/week until August). Should I take his letter as a hint that I should forget about this cycle and get ready for the next? Or should I put myself out there and try to get a new test score by May/June? Or enroll last minute in this Spring classes? Quitting my job is not an option, I care too much about it, so I'm wondering what I can do at this point to still be considered for this cycle. I have a big family legacy at Creighton, my father, grandfather and great-grandfather were all MD grads from the Creighton SOM and it is by far my first choice.

Help! 🙁

Wow, that's a difficult decision. You definitely need to retake the MCAT. Whether you can prepare well enough for it by May/June is up to you, although I feel like by then it might be too late for this cycle.

Have you taken any upper level bio classes? Are pre-med prereqs the only science classes you've taken? I would think it'd be too late to sign up for Spring classes since it's almost February already. I also think taking upper level bio classes without ever having done so before will be difficult with a full time job. I'm not even sure how you would take the classes along with work unless you do it during your lunch time or you take a night class, but upper level classes probably aren't taught at night (though I guess it depends on the institution).

Because the problem with your application is really hard to fix by the time they'll start reviewing waitlisted people, it might be hard to get in this year. I would start preparing for next year if I were you. Retake the MCAT and plan on taking classes in the Fall. I would say take classes in the summer, but you'll be working and probably preparing for the MCAT, and that's already hard. I would suggest biochem, genetics, and cell bio (if anything, at least biochem and I would take cell bio over genetics since biochem and cell bio will probably have a fair amount of genetics in it). I think those are the classes that they mentioned during the interview that they recommended. I remember them saying during the presentation that given two applicants with virtually the same application, the one with more challenging upper level bio classes may have the edge, so you definitely need to take some upper level classes.

Good luck!
