You should probably try to retake your MCAT. I got in with 3.85 (3.7s), 28 MCAT. I have 4 years outside of high school in an americorp type internship (Creighton is huge on service), I work at a hospital (so have tons of patient interactions), and shadowed a physician who teaches at Creighton and wrote me a strong LOR. To be honest, it was that LOR that got me an interview, and then it was my awesomeness that got me in 😀

Blub, you exude awesome. My computer became awesome just by typing your name.

For real though, try to get the cat at 28-30 range. Don't neglect the extra credits, Creighton Places a big premium on service to others. I was right around 3.97 cumulative gpa and 28 mcat. Cat was lower than I wanted, but I've explained the circumstances elsewhere on this thread.

Most importantly relax and enjoy the process! A year or so off has been one of the best experiences I could have hoped for!
Pm me with any ?'s

Just released my acceptance. Hopefully someone hears back soon... Good luck everyone. Its been real.

Just withdrew my acceptance too. It was bittersweet as I've talked to the admissions director and staff multiple times and they were really friendly, but ultimately I decided to go somewhere else. Hopefully someone here will get off the waitlist!

Withdrew from the waitlist. Hopefully that frees up some space for those of you waiting 🙂. Good luck!

just withdrew my acceptance. good luck to whoever it goes to! 🙂

Hey everyone!
quick question, I got my financial aid two weeks ago and they say reply date is today, I am still working out my budget and am not sure what i am going to take yet. How strict is the reply deadline, can I wait another week before i make my decision?
thanks!

I think that is a question you should call and ask Creighton about. It'd really suck if someone here gave you bad info on something like that.

I love all of you! If I get in here, I owe everyone a drink!

Anyone know when in June they might accept their first group of alternates? I'm probably going to submit an app for class of 2017, but don't want to do so if I don't need to!

Same situation here. I'm sure you got the email where it says they are reviewing the alternates on 5/21, and they'll let us know sometime in June. I'm hoping that means the first group will know something the first week of June since they are meeting on 5/21. I'd be disappointed if they told us much later than that.

I was told by admissions that the first week of June is a common time for alternates to begin hearing news.

Jut wanted to let those of you on the waitlist know that I let go of my acceptance and I know of 4-5 others from my school that have or will be declining theirs as well. Good luck, Creighton is a great school!

Withdrew a couple days ago as well. Really love the school, but just too pricey compared to the state school. I wish all you alternative listers luck, as I know how you feel. If it doesnt work out this year fix whats wrong on your app (creighton is very good at telling what is wrong and ways to improve upon it if you ask) and keep moving forward.

Thanks on both notes. Regards.

I really hope there are many spots for people on the alternate list! :xf:

I was accepted back in december, super excited to start school here in the fall!

👍 I think most of us waitlisters have a pretty good chance!

Do you know about how many people are on it this year? or in past years? Admissions office said that people were dropping spots pretty quickly on the 15th, including people from the alternate pool. They wouldn't tell me any more than that though!

Here are the numbers from last year:
Interviewed: 693
Acceptance offers: 412

Given that they rarely reject post-interview and the class size is 152, I would estimate that the initial alternate list could be around 500 people. Hopefully way smaller by now. They said that they do not over accept like other schools, so that means they only sent out 152 offers so far? If that is true and they make around 400 offers like last year, there should be a lot of AL movement coming. I like our chances. Good luck everyone!

I have a feeling that the number of acceptances over 150 is not solely from the wait list, although I may be wrong. Perhaps they interview until late March so they can accept people for the spots that have already been given up before the May 15th deadline. Hopefully your scenario is how it goes though because those are some damn good odds.

Most schools accept 1.5 or 2x their class size. This probably means that Creighton initially accepts 300 students, and waitlists 393. There's no way to be positive though, but the fact that they pull so many students off of the waitlist is a good sign 🙂

Yeah I'm sure they probably have made more than 152 offers so far (I was being overly optimistic haha). On interview day though, the assistant dean was adamant about them not over accepting. He told us the story of the medical school that had over accepted their class and did not have enough space come the first day of class. 300 sounds a little high at this point if that is true. They probably were handing out more offers as people withdrew before the interview season was over, but 300 still sounds pretty high as most people do not withdraw until May. Of course, I really have no idea. I am obviously going crazy waiting to hear something as I am on 4 wait lists with no acceptances. Either way though, the chances are still great for us.

When do you guys think alternate list will start moving?

Just thought I would update this thread a little bit.. talked to Dr. Quinn (finally got a chance). He said that the alternate list has started moving, but only a few people have been given spots. They apparently have the list divided up into rough quarters of about 50 people each. So it is loosely ranked. He also said that they only take about 30 people on average from the list.. Hopefully he is just trying to keep the false hope to a minimum! Seems like 30 would be kinda low for a 200 person wait list.

Thanks for the update. I thought the wait list and amount of people accepted off of it would be higher given that they make around 400 offers. Maybe they already made a lot of offers before the interview season ended, but 30 sounds really low for any school's wait list. I wonder if the alternate offers have gone out in the mail yet because we haven't seen anyone get accepted on here yet, and they said it would start in June. I will definitely be stalking the mail man for the next month!

Going off of that, Dr Q said that the spots are not filled all in one week. The committee meets every week and notifies people as things move along, also saying multiple acceptances at this point are a significant factor.

Thanks for the update! Do you know if it is possible to find out what part of the list we're on?

What do you mean about the multiple acceptances? Is it good or bad?

How is it possible to be juggling multiple acceptances at this point? I thought May 15th was the national deadline to select only one school?

I just asked what I need to work on. They told me generally my chances for getting in, but they said it changes so fast that they can't really rank it. They won't say anything more than that.

How did they explain your chances for getting in?

Good to know. As this is the only WL I'm on (with no acceptances), I'd really like to know my chances so I can reapply if necessary.

Agreed. Quite frankly, at this point I'm really sick and tired of the waiting process, checking email daily, stressing, etc. I'd almost prefer being denied so I can move on from here, rather than sit around like a lame duck. The new app cycle begins soon and if we must reapply, we are already behind..

I called Creighton yesterday and asked Dee if Creighton had started notifying students about the wait list and she said they had. I asked her how many spots were still available and she very rudely said the class was entirely full. I asked her if they just offered out all the spots or they knew for certain that everyone had committed and she said everyone had sent in their paperwork.

I am really upset. So much for notifying us the first week of June...maybe what they meant to say is that they would have the class full by June 1st. I had my friend call Creighton too. She spoke to both Dee and Kathy and they also said the class was entirely full. 🙁

That kinda contradicts what alexrgross heard from Dr.Quinn... I called yesterday and whoever I spoke to told me only a very small number of people have been pulled from the waitlist.

That is strange because I haven't seen a single acceptance posted on this forum since 4/22. It is possible that none of the new acceptees posted on here but still.

Yeah, I bet SOMEONE would have posted, even just 1 person. The woman I spoke to specifically said only a few had been pulled from the waitlist. When I asked if it was possible to know when we might start hearing or what spot I was on, and she told me that it "changed very quickly" and was impossible to know where one stood.

Hmm that is weird. This is what I'm thinking. Let's say enough people withdrew to drop the number of students below the average class size. They offered enough spots to bring it back to that cap. So even though a lot of people may have withdrawn, they only offered a few spots to fill it? Either way, they will definitely be offering more spots throughout the summer as people get into other schools from the waitlist.

Just what I'm thinking. Even though I withdrew from the waitlist, I'm still :xf: for you all (especially Buttermellow 🙂 )!

Just because "the class is full" does not mean they won't be pulling from the wait list. Keep in mind that, in theory, the class "has been full" since March 31 (which the AAMC rules state all schools should have initially filled their classes). Many people, myself included, dropped acceptances (incl. Creighton) on or by May 15. (Pretty sure most of us dropped them within that least week and by all indications on SDN, it appears to have occurred largely within the final 24-48 hrs before May 15.) Unless they WAY overfilled the class, it is unlikely they have a "completely full" class in the sense you seem to think. Creighton is a nice school and all but it's no Hopkins. People with Creighton acceptances and higher-up wait lists will be accepted elsewhere and drop their beloved Creighton like a man leaving a one-night stand with a prostitute. Just be patient for now. It'll come.

I thought it was strange too but she was adamant that the class was full. Dee, who is the secretary in the medical school, said that everyone had turned in their paperwork and if any spots became available they would notify students. I really hope she didn't know what she was talking about, but she and Kathy, another admissions staff member, gave the same answer to both my friend and I. I am hoping there are still spots and that the class is not full. :xf: Maybe she was just sick of people calling her, but still.

I seriously doubt that the wait list is done moving. From past years' threads it looks like there movement all the way up until mid-july. They most likely have filled the class. All that means is that they are constantly filling the spots given up. People that are given spots at this point may have already committed to another school since there is not a deadline to withdraw from the wait list. Others may decide to go to another school that they get into sometime this summer. Just because the students sent in their paperwork doesn't mean that they are committed to going there. Point is that technically Creighton can say that their class is filled, but in reality the class is constantly changing while the number of enrolled students stays at 150.. (hope that made sense). Schools like to downplay the amount of people that they accept off of the wait list to make themselves seem more competitive. Creighton unfortunately is very expensive, so that works against them in retaining acceptees that are given cheaper alternatives to Creighton. So don't get discouraged. There will be a lot of movement, and it's just a matter of being patient.

👍 Thanks. I started to get really worried this morning when somebody said the class was full! But I guess it's really always full, even as they pull people from the waitlist.

Yeah I think at this point it would be more useful to know how many offers they have given out so far instead of looking at the number of current openings.

They said "only a few," so I'd guess less than 5 offers from the waitlist. And who knows if those people even accepted.
