I have yet to get any financial aid, let's hope they slide me some bucks... If not, I'll be riding the top ramen train for a while

Ph, if they won't take cupcakes. You can always send them my way.

You can see your financial aid package when you log into the nest! 70k loans 🙁 hopefully scholarship? Does anyone know the average stats for scholarship?

Guess we'll all be poor together! Has anyone talked to any Creighton grads about their student debt and how they've managed it?

I know a great bridge we can all live under, no rent or utilities, spacious, has a view...

I'm debating...a 1bd/1bth ok apartment by myself, or a nicer 2 bd/2bth w roommate. I prefer the second, if any other female student is interested in rooming, message me! 🙂

Hey guys, does anyone know the chances of getting the Phoenix track and how the process works? Is it a simple lottery or first come first serve? Only 40 or so go right?

So after receiving alternate status at this program and a recent acceptance at a school where I qualify for in-state tuition, my motivation has gone downhill. Dr. Quinn e-mailed me recently just asking how everything was going, and asked what I had decided to do about his previous recommendations (retake MCAT, take some upper level bio classes). Needless to say I did not and will not accomplish either of those things, and I let him know I had decided the best way to spend my time at this point was to continue to work and serve the medically needy. I would still really value an acceptance from Creighton because I have a huge family legacy (my father, grandfather, and great grandfather were all MD grads from the SOM), and it truly is my preferred school despite the hefty price tag. However, I'm wondering how much effort and hope I should put into the wait until May, especially considering the fact that I have an alternative I can pursue. Should I even bother to send in updates? Should I withdraw my alternate status so that someone else might have a better shot? Thoughts from those of you who maybe are in a similar predicament?

Well, if you put down a deposit at this other school, are you able to get the deposit back? If so, by what date? It sounds like creighton is your #1, so I wouldn't throw it out just yet...

I'd caution against not trying for creighton, as you might think back in the future and wonder what if...

Maybe ask yourself which program you would be happier at? Consider financial costs, how big will the difference be? Depending on the size of the monetary gap and which specialty you desire to pursue it might or might not matter that much.

Concerning mcat, how competitive it it really? It sounds like it is good enough for your state school, so perhaps there are other areas of your app which need polishing up. Upper level bio classes, look at your performance, would it benefit you to take some classes which might be applicable to your future medical school curriculum?

Overall, the process that influenced my decision went something like, "do I feel that taking the mcat again is worth the 2 month study time? (God no) Given my limited time, what will give me the biggest return on my invested time? (volunteer work like the dickens) Is creighton where I really want to go? (yes) If I choose creighton, will it limit my future career choice? (No)" I was in a similar situation as you not too long ago. This is how I made my decision, hopefully it helps a bit. Sorry if it reads like the spark notes of my brain.

Good luck!

I want to add my self to the 3/15 rejection train. Good luck to everybody!

I am having this same issue between my state school and creighton. I love creighton and omaha in general, but 20k/year tuition difference times four years plus interest is about 100k difference. I don't care what specialty you do 100k isn't pocket change. Here's hoping that this white kid with average grades from a not impoverished background somehow gets some creighton financial love.

Well, there's no real harm in staying on the waitlist. You earned the spot on the waitlist - keep it. You're able to hold both that spot and your acceptance, so just do it. At least then, if you get off the waitlist, you're able to have a choice and can decide then. Your feelings now and later may be different.

I'm in the same boat. I was accepted to Creighton first, my top choice. I actually thought it wouldn't matter whether or not I got into my state school because I was going to Creighton anyway. Now I'm not so sure. Creighton is substantially more expensive than my state school. Here's to hoping for financial love :xf:

When will Creighton have sent out all their initial acceptances?

Ya, I see what you are saying. I should have clarified the money situation. Of course, 100K is a sizable chunk of change. It's just that, if your dream is family med without help of a rural medicine based scholarship, 100 thousand dollars will be a much larger chunk of your future income than if you were interested in the ROADs specialties. In that case, the extra 20 a year would be a very big consideration for me.

I agree, let's hope that I get hooked up with a bit of money, if not...

I was curious to know what it means if they are asking me to add additional information such as any additional volunteer experience on top of what I already have. Does anybody think that means there is still a strong chance that I could get accepted or does it mean something else?

I was in a similar situation and was recently accepted. Based on what Mr. Jarmon told me, it sounds like the admissions committee liked everything about your application except for what they want the update for and that you are an acceptable candidate pending how they feel about your extra information. If they like your update, there is a good chance you will be accepted.

Hey just kind of curious, for everyone that's been accepted, Where are you planning on living? I was just accepted this past week and haven't gotten the letter/info in the mail yet so Im not sure if there are recommendations in there. But Im kind of lost choosing where to live considering I've only been to the city for 1 day during my interview.

Hey all. Just wondering if anyone whose application was put on hold pending further information after an interview got wait listed or rejected. I saw a couple people who had this happen and got accepted. If you got wait listed or rejected did you find out why?

They asked me for an update too. I certainly hope that was an ok sign 🙂
I heard they may start sending decisions out next week at the earliest for those of us who interviewed at the end of February. Good luck everyone 🙂

Aaaaand, alternate list. That's 3 MD interviews, all alternate listed. Boo

Dont give up. Creighton has a ton of movement off of the wait list compared to a lot of other schools. While interviewing there I met about 15 M1s and i think 5 or 6 said they had been on the waitlist at one point or another. Just ask the office what part of your app is the weakest, improve it immediately, and send updates, lots of updates. Even if you haven't actually volunteered yet but your scheduled to volunteer at a food bank every weekend for the next month, tell them about everything you have upcoming. It doesn't matter that its not done yet. As long as you show your working to improve you app and they know about it, it will help.

Thank you for the advice. I am completing my Master's in Chemistry in a month, with a 4.0 graduate GPA. Three years of intense research experience. Presented at ACS conventions, posters too. Going to be published soon. Gave departmental seminars. Volunteered for almost three years at a Hospice. Strong Letters of Recommendation. Shadowed physicians with great letters. Over 90th percentile on my MCATs. Honestly, what else is a person to do.

Have you informed them of any super powers? I told them I had xray vision and could under cut hospital costs if they let me in.

In all seriousness though, your stats are good dude. Did you submit your amcas later in the cycle? Might have been the reason for the waitlist. Anyhow, with a 90 percentile mcat, your a stud and should be hearing good things.

Called the office for my decision today. Accepted!!!! Guess I'll be seeing some of you fine ladies and gents in august 🙂 hopefully the letter comes soon so I know this is real life

I applied the first week applications were being accepted... As far as super powers- I told them I can dunk a basketball from the free throw line.
Thank you for the kind words my dude. Whatever is meant to happen will happen. Best of luck to you my friend.

Hey, I had 3 MD interviews resulting in 2 rejections, and a Creighton WL. You could be in a worse position 😉

This may have been discussed before, but about what percentage of waitlisted applicants end up being accepted? And do any post-interview rejections occur?

I dont think exact stats are published on what percentage of people get off the waitlist. But last year just over 700 interviewed and just over 400 were accepted when all was said and done. So theres probably a lot of waitlist movement around May.

And no they don't reject post-interview until the very end of the season. They said that something has to be extremely wrong with your application for them to reject you and not even put you on the waitlist. That being said talk to a councilor at the admissions office and they'll tell you where your application is weakest. Do exactly what they tell you and send updates as soon as possible and you'll probably have a good chance of moving off the list.

Colonel Sanders is a certifiable G. Mad props to a dude who is helping others during such a difficult process. When we all reach our goals, and I am sure we will in some way, make a promise to help others the way Colonel Sanders is. Props G.

Thanks for the info 👍 So say they have a class size of ~150, roughly 550 are waitlisted, and that means (400-150)/550 = 250/550 = 45% of the waitlist ends up being accepted (whether they choose to matriculate or not). Is that math... sound? Haha, I'm just trying to gauge my rough chances.

Anyone have recommendations for affordable, but nice apartment building near Creighton? Thanks!
