Dr. G was the coolest doc I've ever met. I hope you guys are lucky and get to interview with him too.

Ugh losing my mind over here. Glad to hear that FSU is still extending interview invites though!

This is my #1 school, I have had many friends matriculate here and they all love it.

Anyone have stats like mine and be admitted? uGPA 3.2, gradGPA 4.0, MCAT 27R. 100 hours shadowing, 300 hours volunteering (hurricane Katrina included). One year working in a human tissue bank, 3 years teaching college Bio and Forensics.

I am biting all my fingernails off....hopefully there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I sent in an update letter, I would definitely advise you do to the same.

I sent an update that detailed more shadowing hours, a Biochem course I am taking specifically for them, as well as some committees and certifications I have acquired in the teaching field.

Sent that on Feb 9.

Should I send them another one? A letter of interest or something?

I would advise against sending another letter so soon unless you have something significant to add to your application (New MCAT score, grades..etc). They know you're interested since you sent them the first letter. I would give it another 3 weeks at least before I would consider sending them a Letter of interest since at that point it nearing crunch time and you need to keep at least one "Ace in the hole" so to speak.

Also, Dr. G is the man. We have such wonderful clinical faculty here, but him Dr. Gonzalez-Rothi and Dr. Maitland are absolute geniuses and are amazing teachers.

Hey everyone I'm new to this thread. I just got and Interview invite today!!! M'm so excited! I've been accepted out of state and this is just another opportunity for me to maybe stay in Florida (which i want to happen sooooo badly)

If you dont mind me asking, when were you complete? Did you send an update latter? Could you share some of your stats? Thanks for any info you can provide.

I've been complete since 11/23, I didn't send any update letter (i did send an updated transcript). As for my stats: 3.45 overall (after updated transcript), 3.6ish science 26M mcat

Thank you for the advice! I emailed Dana yesterday to ask her if she thought I should send another letter of interest and she told me she pulled my file for review next week.

So I will wait....hoping and praying for an interview!:scared:

Dana or Diana? I sent an update a little while ago and I got a response back from Diana. Would you mind sharing or PM me with her email address? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

What was your major? Did you do a Masters?

Dana Urrutia is the Admissions Coordinator. Diana Birdsong is an Admissions Associate. I would think that you could send an update to either of them.

Best of luck!!

Thanks, I didn't know Dana's last name to look her up. I will email both to cover all bases.

Sorry about that. You can also call Dana as well, she is very nice.

Probably best to keep full emails off to prevent webcrawlers from spamming her and everything...

Has anyone received an II or acceptance email this week?

Negatory on the II front. Still chilling in the trench waiting for the bugle to pierce the stale air of silence.

Hang on there. These last two weeks are a really really busy time for the school. The same people that work on admissions stuff are often involved in some capacity with match day. Also, many people take spring break off at the same time.

From the sounds of it, we should have a fairly diverse match this year. A good amount of peds, obgyn, family med, some orthopedics and general surgery, a good number of internal medicine and EM as well. The people I talked to all interviewed at very strong programs (academic and community).

Are you matching this year? If so, good luck!

Nope, next year. You will find that each year you will know more of the people matching. The anxiety doesn't stop after Step 1. Third year you are constantly reminded that these are the grades that matter most while simultaneously searching for that perfect specialty, planning out 4th year externships/electives, Step 2 and other responsibilities. One tends to look to the people who just went through it for advice. 😉

This time next year I will be terrified and anxious after (hopefully) 2ish months of interviews and even more waiting. Every year seems to go faster than the last. I remember how far match seemed during MS1 and now the tempo is picking up....only 10 more weeks till I am a fourth year med student and I still feel like they are going to call me up and say they made a mistake.

Anyone have any ideas if and when we will start seeing movement from the hold list?

I was wondering the same thing...When do they rank the hold list?

About a month before classes start is when the waitlist movement tends to accelerate.

I was told by others, they rank it after the last interview date, sometime in late April

Does any one know if they are still sending out interview invites?

As noted above, the gist of the match day was posted above. From the people I talked to, nearly everyone got their number 1 or 2 spot. Like every year, a few people were disappointed. There was a wide range of programs from higher power academic to smaller community. I urge everyone to not judge quality by name alone since most of us don't know what the good programs are in each specialty and what circumstances/restrictions they were under. For those who are impressed by names, we had upenn, wash u, mayo-Rochester, Cornell, Emory, Wake Forest, Duke, several Cali matches and Baylor amongst others (I think).

And sorry, can't answer interview question. 😉

What impressed me was the sheer volume of Cali matches, which are notoriously hard to get coming out of Eastern schools. We blew the regional biases out of the water. But my favorite part was when one of the Ortho matches stepped up and nonchalantly announced he was going to Mayo lol. So boss.

You forgot one person matched to Harvard (Beth Israel Deaconess)

Yea, he is a cool guy. One of the anatomy TAs for my class.

Two of the people that matched in Cali that I knew a little better are definitely very very bright people. I'm sure the others are too, but I didn't know them as well.

I thought there was a BID in there, but wasn't sure. It will be nice to post a list. I wish there were a few more for my specialty, but oh well. We have a pretty good history with it.

There was also a guy who matched at The Cleveland Clinic for Ortho surgery

Holy post count, Moss...you gonna be around for open house next month?

Does anyone live or know any other med students that live at GrandMarc apartments on West Brevard St.? It seems really expensive but the location is great relative to the medical school. However, it's student housing and I'm not sure if it's a viable option or a frat house.

Any opinions?

One of my friends lived there when he was in grad school - it's super expensive, tiny and right on the border of the ghetto......

You could find much nicer/bigger/cheaper/safer places with a little effort.

A couple of people lived there last year - I don't think they hated it, but i don't think anyone loves it.

And yes, it's a little frattish - i've seen many beer bottles in the hallways, cigarette butts, etc.

I've looked at a couple dozen places so I have some options lined up but sounds like GrandMarc isn't the place to be. Any good recommendations for a 1/1?

My younger sister is currently a senior at FSU, and she lives there. She made it clear that medical students would probably not be happy living in that environment.

I've discovered the best housing usually involves an independent landlord with a strong history. It made life much easier when I had my landlord's cell and could call with problems. Also, if I spaced on sending the check, he was real cool with letting it slide a few days if I called.

I do recommend living within 10-15 minutes drive, because anymore can turn into a long trip with the erratic Tallahassee traffic.

I called Admissions today. There are 12 remaining interview dates. But I don't know how many invites they've sent for those 12 days already. Keepin my fingers crossed!
