It is a relative term and yes it is a problem with these cold and apathetic physicians. And I totally get that these adcoms dont want a bunch of dunderheads in their medical schools, BUT I think the fact that schools like Howard give people with promise who aren't gunners a chance is awesome. So when people make sweeping declarations like that (especially on this forum) it should be taken with a grain of salt. Because I guarantee you that a significant number of the people who are going to be in the class of 2016 dont fit into the 3.5 30 MCAT mold, and a majority of them will have so many unique experiences and missions that will show the adcoms and the committee that they are dedicated to HUCM's mission. So again, yeah its a numbers game but what makes this school unique is that it looks beyond the numbers and delves into the person and their potential and what they are really about. Plus I think that on some level information like that makes some people feel like they cant participate in the forum, and that to me is sad.
Damn I have reached my word quota for the day.

well said OBEAHDOCTOR! 🙂

I really need to stay off this board. I feel like a loser. 🙁

I'm here, reading for entertainment as I watch my mailbox even tho Howard is clearly closed at 10pm.....wishful thinking that my interview invite is stuck somewhere in cyberspace

Uh Uh you better participate!!! lol Sweetness and I cant be crazy all by ourselves on here!!!:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Well for starters, i am still here even though i am taking long breaks between reading the thread and doing other things. Definitely, I believe that schools like Meharry, Howard and Morehouse give people like ME and those not so fortunate to have superb MCAT scores a chance. I am not denying that fact, but i am just saying as is kaji that, they are interviewing those with more "impressive"scores/applications first. I most definitely think they will get to people like us soon, that's why i said don't lose hope. I love all the HBCUs because they actually let themselves see the person behind those numbers. They assess your words and motivation and try to know what kind of heart you possess. They try to see who will really fullfill their mission to serve the underserved after residency, so therefore I am keeping an open mind when it comes to all 3 schools. Everyone else should do the same and HOPE for the best.

Word...word. *Nods head thoughtfully and emphatically*👍👍👍

Can I just rant for a second and say how much I dislike the MCAT. I am going to get rid of that test if its the last thing I do.
Rant Over.

There are many people I know who did not so well on the MCAT, but did really well on USMLE... I think having a poor MCAT does not define whether you will make a good doctor. There are many factors.

I am from Ghana, West Africa whoop, whoop!!!! LOL. And my name is just a combination of two different Ghanaian names. Paapa and Akwasi. I just shortened the Paapa to Paa and added the Akwasi to it. Hope it's not too confusing. LOL.

Where are you from Paaakwasi?

Oh for sure OBEAHDOCTOR. What do you need? I can give you some good recipes for Jollof Rice and chicken, Groundnut Soup, Banku and Okro, you name it lol.

Can you cook Paaakwasi? I need a recipe for a thing....

Tell me about it Sweetness. It is ridiculous how much emphasis most of the other med schools put on the MCAT. Thank God for HBCUs.

Lets start with the Jollof Rice and I went to this place in DC (Adams Morgan Neighborhood) called Bukom and they served this thing called beer meat and fufu and stew. I think i want my Christmas dinner to be Jamaican and West African. Hook a sista up with some recipes.

I was looking into British medical schools when I started the application process because I ultimately want to work with WHO or PAHO (when I get really old like 60 years old) and I like the test that they take over there. Forget what its called now, but it is more comprehensive and applicable to medicine. Cmon AAMC get with it!!

No Sweetness, I live in Ohio, so not too far from you. I used to live in New York though.

Yea, it is unfortunate. I don't think the MCAT should be that much emphasized. i know so many friends who did not to well on the MCAT. they got less than a 24, but they rocked the USMLE and are in great residencies.

Girl, don't you worry. I will personally give you a great typed up Jollof Rice recipe soon, just in time for Christmas. Did they serve the fufu with stew? I hope not. Fufu goes with soup. You will love some groundnut soup.

and your my sister 😀

LOL, this is so fun. Look at the 3 of us chilling in the Howard thread. Mr. Sweetness, that still has me laughing.
As for the MCAT, it is ridiculous. The insufficient amount of time coupled with so many different topics makes it so demanding. At least the USMLE deals with medicine and medicine alone.

im a brother 🙂

I wanna say the fufu was in one bowl and the stew in another...but I like mixing my food so they both ended up in the same bowl. And it was cows foot stew (love that stuff...DONT JUDGE ME!!). Not sure if it was a soup, that was the first and only time i got drunk because i didnt know that a long island iced tea wasnt ice tea with a little rum in it so i drank like 4. But I remembered ordering the food and it coming to the table. Yeeeeah smh

Circuits and Force and buoyancy...yuck

Yeah, i am not a big fan of cow feet, but i have eaten it before. It must have been soup you had and not stew. Yeah, long island ice tea is DEFINITELY NOT ice tea LOL. Also just for reference, I am a sister too.

that made my day too! 😀 i think the USMLE will be a great exam to study for and it will be focused with pure medicine. i think medical school will be great. alot of people complain that there is alot of studying but i feel that studying will be well worth it.

Whhhaaaat its so sticky and delicious! And yes I learned the next day that there was no iced tea in that dreadful drink.
